I can't agree with this point for one reason. The clubs that have been top four all have experienced halves. We have not had that since Griffin arrived. A clapped out broken Soward and Wallace were not able to continue as halves and Griffin has had to build again. It is the spine that has let us down. the Brisbane game and Cleary's lack of experience a glaring example. You can have a great roster but without a spine to guide it around, you will struggle.
Hopefully, this year with Maloney on board and Cleary with another off season under his belt, we can see a big improvement. Edwards will be better for last years experience and is a quality player even with his relatively little experience, that just leaves hooker as the missing piece. Wallace is on his last legs and we need a good quality hooker to replace him.
Griffin refused to move Moylan to 5/8 earlier
He let Seg go.
He was partly responsible for the problems in the spine.
But as I say, he had the same record at the broncos, only a superstar in Lockyer ever got him competitive against top 8 teams.
But this season will absolutely confirm or reject the hypothesis. If we aren’t competitive against the top 8 this year, we’ll never be with Griffin as coach. It shouldn’t be hopefully, it must happen or he should go.
Also Wade Egan will very likely be our future hooker. He’s in the top 30 this year.
