I’m not entirely convinced that the stadium managers will be happy with having extra traffic on their surfaces.

The grounds will get cut up more quickly. We are no longer used to seeing grounds with basically no grass in the middle. We are now used to things that look like well tendered bowling greens.

They will charge extra to replace the turf more often. Imagine the damage if its wet.

BTW no one who isn’t turning up to current 2nd tier games (ie family and friends ) is turning up at 1:15 to watch all three games to get out at 9pm. Christ. Who has that much time to waste.

Will be fine for the suburbian grounds where the lower grades would be stand alone only

Some cases it will do little. In others it will take the 4pm Sunday game. Instead of the gates opening at 3pm and nothing happening. Now can have a game or 2 before hand. Gives the kids a chance to kick a footy around before on the hill etc. much better in those cases

Do you not understand that for the most part, that was already happening in Sydney?

That's why this whole thing is ridiculous, he's marketing himself as a saviour when what he wants is already happening.

I touched on this earlier. News Limited love him so what is the harm in using the free publicity?

The clubs and State Boards aren't dumb. If they want him gone he will go. No amount of puff pieces will change it

I’d be a fan if he declared that all Tigers home games had no actual games played.

No losses.
No f**kwit ground announcer.
Less mong fans.
Don’t have to look at that ugly magpies jersey.
Don’t have to watch that f**ked up right edge defence look like they'd just met before kick off every f**king week.

I’m emailing the golden greek

I don't think a lot of thought has gone into this from Vlandys.
Clubs don't have reserve grade any more, they have feeder clubs. Mostly the feeder clubs are independent clubs with a business relationship, not actually part of the NRL team.
QLD feeder clubs play in a different comp to NSW feeder clubs.
There isn't a proper 20's comp any more.

Vlandys still thinks nrl is suburban Sydney, therefore three grades make sense. In reality melbourne, Nz, broncos, cowboys, Titans, canberra etc are never going to have three grades on game day. But hey it makes him sound tough and boosts his standing amongst the 50 plus year old Sydney mob. Tribalism and all that lol. And woe betide anyone who stands in his way.......

for 1, he sold the game up the river with a shitty FTA TV deal
and for 2. do we even know if he had involvement?
What free to air deal? Has not signed one yet-update- signed a deal with a 'Pay TV deal' not FTA!

Yes i would like a true semi Prof 2 tier/level comp with a place reserved in the final for the winner of such comp/, slotting in around 6/7 place in the finals (NRL) slot.

I think a lot of people have lost touch with modern NRL reality here

NRL clubs contract players 18 to 30+6 players
Last year 12 of those 16 clubs had a single team below them acting as a RG team
NRL clubs get $13 mil in grants and run a $20 mil plus operation
12/13 of 16 clubs up until last year ran a U16s U18s and U20s team

Non NRL NSW Cup clubs bar the Bears do not run U20s U18s U16s in the NSWRL junior comps. They are A grade clubs who wanted a higher tier comp. The reason why the RM Cup was created. All of those clubs including Newtown played at in this comp.

That leaves the 3 Qld clubs. Who have all played in a RG or NYC comps since they were formed.

Another issue is funding for travel.

Are all the non-NSW clubs going to have to come up with the money to fly another 2 squads to the match venue every second week. So for 6 teams (Cowboys, Broncos, Titans, Raiders, Storm and Warriors) that's an additional 36 players plus coaches, trainers etc - approx. 50 people 12 times a season is 600 sets of flights, meals and accommodation over and above what they currently pay for. Even supposing they do it el-cheapo - say they fly them on Tiger air and make them stay in the Ibis at the airport - that's still upwards of 250K extra for each of those clubs, More for the Cowboys and Warriors.

Who pays?

he’s talking about the renegotiated deal with Ch9 for 20-22. Even I’m saying it’s a bit unfair as we don’t know what that is and there’s been widely different reporting of it. We will know more in a couple of weeks when the 2020 annual report comes out.m

Its interesting that at a time when NRL Grants were $3-4 mil teams were able to fund this themselves

Now with $13 mil grants the NRL clubs have more than ever before

Sure, but it's a massive waste of money to fund travel for two teams worth of people when there's no hope of monetising them.

It's just pissing money down the drain on an expensive luxury that isn't going to have any real benefits for the clubs or sport as whole, and in fact is going to do untold amounts of damage to the sport in regional areas.

That's why the Raiders are only doing it because the NRL is paying them to do it, and it's why the other clubs that are smart will demand extra grants for it as well.

Compare to the other major sports. Atleast it wasn't a reduction and extension
