Should RL in Australia really be making decisions on the games direction based around how many people will go to watch Q Cup?

Its a 2nd Tier part-time comp today

That wont change

But the question remains - would you go and watch it without the 3 NRL fringe players

I will. It's $10 to get in at Koogari, and a great day at the footy. Plus $5 full strength beers help as well.

I think people in Sydney forget cause there are so many games to go to on a weekend, that it's in Brisbane the Bronco's or nothing if you want that level of footy. Geez, I'd prefer to take my $50 for the Bronco's ticket and instead go to the local game and spend that amount more wisely. Once you reduce that level of quality by another 20 or so players per club from the QLD cup, you will find those clubs struggle even further to get people to attend.

Do we really need that added cost to the game? For the token few people who will watch that event while waiting for the "Big" game. While you have a product at a decent enough level (2nd Tier), that is well done in QLD cause it covers the whole state and get communities interested.

It's NSW that has it backwards with all feeder teams pretty much located all in the Sydney basin. It needs to move to a QLD model with teams spread across the state. I'm sure the token 2-3 NRL players with up and comers and some locals playing will actually increase the interest level in the sport, and do something for country footy in NSW as well.

Just bring back the under 20's for all teams if you want something to lead up to the big game.

How do you work that out ?

There are 12 clubs in the Qld Cup. Thats 240 players.

While in the NRL there are only 3 clubs players 18 to 30 only total 36 all up if just RG or 90 if RG and U20s

Noting that 250 players graduate U20s in NSW Cup & Qld Cup every year

There will be no NRL players in the QLD cup then. Thus devaluing it. I think you miss the point that not everybody can get to a game in Brisbane/Townsville/Gold Coast without paying an arm and a leg. It's taking that next level to the fans so they are closer to getting to see some stars, or future ones.

You only have to look what happened once reserve grade was taken off, clubs saved a lot of money, and that level below in QLD strengthen. It's what needs to happen in NSW. Adding Tamworth, Coffs Harbour while removing a lot of Sydney feeder clubs etc makes sense. Can even take the top level team to play in that town every second or third year to ensure that connection with the top level club.

Don't get me wrong, I used to love going to Belmore when they would have 3 games of reserve grade on. But I can tell you now. No one in Sydney cares. But people in those more regional communities will. And with scarceness, you might find the feeder teams in Sydney get more attendance for NSW Cup. Not to mention it wouldn't take much for a re-order to take place. THe NRL could assist with that, cause it's participation they want to increase, and this is easily the cheapest method to do it. Get people interested first by bringing the game to them.

Hopefully if we get 3 grades to watch, their is no 45 minute breaks between games.Go back to a 10 minute break.Bring back the Big League so we know who these lower grade players are.If Souths are playing at Homebush hopefully they would wear white numbers so the fans can tell who they are.
While we're at it bring back smoking durries at halftime, grass hills at every ground, players having second jobs and 80% of games played at 2pm on a Sunday arvo too

Just those 3 players? Probably not much at all

The reality would be different though. For Brisbane and GC (along with the forthcoming 2nd Brisbane team) to field a reserve grade side, there will need to be at least 34 players ripped out of the SEQ Q cup teams. That is a very big chunk of the available playing talent

4 of 14 along the northern coast isn't what I'd call "spread across the state". There are no inland teams in the QLD Cup. Ipswich is about the furthest inland. Toowoomba (Mustangs) have a team in the Colts & other lower grade comps.

NSW Cup has teams in Wollongong, Canberra and Newcastle, and the third tier (Massey Cup) spread out last year and looks likely to continue to do so. Maitland, Dubbo, a Western NSW team and Thirroul all partook from memory.

I would like to see a country team or two make it up to NSW Cup but I don't know that it's realistic at this point in time.

They cover a lot more area geographically than the NSW teams do and that's where the population is, as well as one of those being a PNG team. Not sure 2hrs south and north of Sydney is spread all that far apart from the Canberra team. Some northern NSW teams like a Tamworth or Coffs Harbour would be bringing the games to those areas. Even the Central Coast should be a must to ensure that spread and quality of games is there.

whatever way you look at it there's 6 Brisbane teams and 8 non Brisbane teams competing in 2021, compared to NSW cup where all but 2 teams are in Sydney.

And on this one once RG and then later NYC was removed in Qld NRL clubs you saw the reverse occur as Qld NRL clubs got weaker

What are you going on about? NYC was great for getting talent into a the spotlight, but obviously, teams are going to have there ups and downs. Including QLD teams. Bronco's are long overdue on that part, but QLD itself is still producing players, they just play at non QLD based teams.

And honestly if that was true, it would impact non QLD clubs exactly the same by having no reserve grade. What the QLD cup does is give players a chance to shine against men. Can't help it if the coaches weren't up to it for the last few years. And I have so enjoyed the Bronco's getting the spoon.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a NSWelshman and Bulldogs fan. I moved here for the weather and friendlier people.

In Qld players 18-30 are spread across 3 clubs thats about 3 to 4 NRL next to 9 part time footballs

The standard dropped to the mean average

It takes about 2 years for players to filter up a grade. With NYC being cut in 2015 it took about 4 years for the 2016-17 boys to filter into NRL

While in NSW players 18-30 are concentrated in one team. So the mean average playing standard is higher.

I dont think its no coincidence we have seen Qld NRL clubs start dropping in standard now in 2019-2020

Is there adequate player stocks in those areas though? Can we really force players to go train and play in those locations?

How do you account for the Storm who have not dropped in form? After all, they also spread their talent across multiple feeders

Also it's fair to say the Titans have improved, not dipped in form
