What an idiot. He never went along as a first XI player. In an interview a while ago they said they see him strictly as an opener. He needs to get his eye in against quicks to be more effective against spinners. That's where he has had his unparalleled 1st class success.

When Rogers gets dropped or retires Hughes will be the replacement. That is what he is being groomed for. I could see that being as soon as this summer.

lol funny shit

unparalleled 1st class success and we need to spoon feed him on tours as an outside XI player for sometime in the future

Let's make accurate comparisons between Rogers and Hughes in tests:

Rogers: 31 inn, 1118 runs, Avg 36.06, 100s 4, 50s 5.

Hughes: 49 inn, 1535 runs, Avg 32.65, 100s 3, 50s 7.

So every 3.5 inn Rogers gets more than 50, every around 8 inn gets 100

So every 5 inn Hughes gets more than 50, every around 16 inn gets 100.

The stats show Hughes had more opportunities and hasn't capitalised. For all his chances Hughes average is poor.

Rogers has been solid opening the batting. Just because he has had a couple of failures recently doesn't mean he should be dropped. Rogers has been more consistent than Hughes.

Clearly Rogers will be there for the first two tests against India. I'm confident he will make a big score and take the unwarranted pressure off himself.

Bunnies Man mate give Rogers a break he deserves his spot opening the batting.

Hughes will get another chance at some stage but will be inconsistent as usual. Will play a couple of good innings but will be too many failures as usual.

What a monumentally idiotic look at the statistics. Since Rogers' 2nd test he has had an unbroken run. And he has only batted in his preferred position.

Hughes has been in and out of the team and batting everywhere from 1 to 6. Anyone who knows anything about cricket knows being in and out of the team and all over the order affects your form (anyone who thinks it doesn't matter have a look at Clarke who hates batting even 1 spot higher, and that's a world class veteran). I bet if he had the same run Rogers had his average would be better than Rogers.

And speaking of Phil Hughes, he is off to a great start in his shield innings. 16 from 14 so far.

And he's belting a test incumbent:

2.6
Starc to Hughes, no run
2.5
Starc to Hughes, FOUR
2.4
Starc to Hughes, no run
2.3
Starc to Hughes, no run
2.2
Starc to Hughes, FOUR
2.1
Starc to Hughes, 2 runs

Haha out for 20. Stop talking him up yet another failure.

His technique is a major problem still.

He scored 20 in that innings in Sheffield Shield.

In a test match he wouldn't have scored more than 10 in that innings.

Brilliant 69 from Hughes amid a collapsing SA team. Nobody else in the top order got above 30. 3 ducks. Hughes has found form for this summer. Watch the runs pile on this month and he gets selected for the 1st test.
