The Cowboys “whinging” article isn’t even in the Daily Telegraph this morning … can someone post it so we can see what the problem is?
Wait up, now you want me to defend the PNG bid?We have been told that the PNG supporters are so fanatical about NRL…it won’t matter who they play there … supposedly
Can to just f**k offPerth won't get a team because it's an inconsequential market.

I thought you were balls deep in the PNG bid? Are you suggesting that some of the basis of it is a bit sketchy? No… just saying that according to the media hyperbole … it won’t matter who plays there as the stadium will be sold out every NRL game

I think you are looking at this through an Australian lens of what Governments are like and supposed to be.Turn it up …
I have said numerous times I would prefer them to expand elsewhere…and that any sport (let alone the NRL ) should not be involved in geopolitical matters ..
I just think some of the negative takes are over the top… particularly when it comes to the “ethical “ arguments, when it’s the PNG Govt asking for this …

Not quite the same in PNG
PNG leader Marape confirms son arrested over money in suitcase
Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister James Marape has confirmed reports his eldest son is one of five men arrested in relation to a suitcase found with $US440,000 at a domestic airport in the Hela province.www.rnz.co.nz
But I'm sure all that money will get to school children.
Mackay is 4 hours south and staunch Cowboys territory. There is no facilities in Cairns capable of holding anything more then a one off NRL game.
NQ is essentially two cities, Cairns and Townsville. The population outside that is very small.
Townsville is centrally located in NQ and has the best stadium in regional Australia.
How many times do I have to repeat this? Are Southerns just wilfully ignorant?
I’ve lived in Asia and travelled to about 80 countries … ( not PNG admittedly )…so I’m not exactly a shrinking violet about the realties you mention .
Although I note we have given PNG billions already .. the NRL thing is a drop in the ocean comparatively …yet this will be what the haters want to focus on …
Very good point to a degree; however, the government and the NRL has made this a thing if you will.
Instead of foreign aid which can be quite opaque in how it is delivered but has the stressed or outlined positive goal of funding hospitals, education we now have clearly stated money just for a football side. That will clearly meet opposition from some sections of the public - that is just common sense.
I’m just making a point that allegations made by others over PNG corruption should not just apply to the NRL money … you say there should be tougher regulations for aid money … but with respect we don’t really know how this money is spent do we .. just as we don’t know what the outcome of the NRL money will be
it’s not just aid money I am talking about though …
How many hundreds of millions get paid every year to PNG for the Manus Island detention/ boat people issue ?
I don’t see too many Aussies worrying about corruption in respect of that money … I wonder why?? .it solves an “inconvenience” for us….so no need to look too closely as to where the money is going
You're bang on the money there.
But that's why something as extravagant as a sports team employing millionaires is likely to elicit a much stronger response.
I agree that morals and ethics will have nothing to do with it.Well… I’ll tell them to take it up with the PNG Govt … who have requested the money be spent that way…
This is what they have asked for as a quid pro quo to tell China to F off ..
are we going to lecture them that this is not a “morally just” way to spend the money for doing us a favour ?
I agree that morals and ethics will have nothing to do with it.
Being seen as frivolous waste of tax payers money in a time of severe economic hardship, will be. Particularly when it's seen to be favouring one sport over all others.
The opposition is going to wedge the f**k out of this, and the Murdoch press will kick Albo mercilessly about it, I suspect the Fairfax 9 will to.
How long will the slush fund last without public support and a electoral backlash? And I’ll have my popcorn ready …I expect most of the bleating to come from the AFL and Soccer actually

If the PNG govt asks for 600m to spend on drugs and hookers, should our govt also give that to them?
