Parra were red hot favourites in 2001, statistically one of, if not the best club sides in history. Come finals time, beat Warriors well(to be expected in at the time), got the wobbles but held on to beat the broncos. Still favourites in the GF and got blown off the park in one of the most inept displays in 40 minutes of GF football in recent memory.

Absolute bullsh*t.

Newcastle played the perfect half of football, FFS their first error came in the 37th minute.

Parra wearn't terrible, Newcastle were just a machine executing every play to perfection.

They were blown of the park by the greatest 40 minutes of any team in recent grand final history. Newcastle would have demolished anyside that night.

A 1 point loss in 85 Gregstar hardly compares to the effort in 01. In 99 we definitely choked but we finished the regular season 5th or 6th from memory.

My point was I can't remember the last time a team was so dominant all year and choked under the pressure of the GF.

It was only a 6 point loss in 01

FFS, Parra did not choke in 2001. They started the game they had played all year...expansive football and incredible confidence with the ball in hand.

They got shell shcoked when Johns saw us up 10-0 after 7 minutes and never looked in it after that.

Blown of the park, yes but didn't choke.

You are forgetting Parra lost only 4 games that year and two were to us. Also we were right up there with Parra most the year, we did have Johns misisng for about 10 weeks through out the year.

the 1 point loss in '85 is a total disguise of the true gap between the two teams on that particular day.

ok...the knights didnt make an error until the 37 min mark, but that doesnt fully explain why the eels were down 24-0.

When you are only 1 point down despite how bad you are playing, you are still in the game with a good chance of winning. We were never blown off the park on the scoreboard and parra were.

30-24

they were in the game just as much as Saints were in 85

Kennedy, Johns and Peden blew them off the park and they didn't recover from that point. They Knights were a 24 point better side in the first half..... by the time changes were made they were gone.

different game back then borat. In 85 Burgess was hit with bomb after bomb after bomb and did a great job. Shame that it took that game to make the league realise that they had to change the rule to a 20m tap for a succesful bomb defusal.
I have seen the game a few times and Greg is right, the dragons were never really in it...but...they were more in it than the eels of 2001.

Well it does actually. Error free football = completed sets = field possesion = dominance.

Parra were down 24-0 because they couldn't handle the sustained pressure of having to defend their line with a backrow of Kennedy, Simpson and Peden running onto picture perfect passes form Andrew Johns

Were you seriously ever a chance of winning that game?

When you're only 6 behind of course you are?

Do you think Johns was attempting field goals for no reason?

dont know about changes...i think it was more to do with the knights clocking off like the were well known for doing between 1999-2003 when they had a big lead

Absolute rubbish.

It was 30-6 with 8 minutes to go. Never in it. Knights players started celebrating and dropped in intensity allowing yuor blokes to run in a couple of tries in the last few minutes.

The try that got you to 24 points was scored with 40 seconds to go.

Never in it.

Idiot.

He was attempting field goals in the 74th minute when the score was 30-18 for that extra buffer.

Never in it.

Many people who have posted in this thread need to take a bit of a look at themselves, IMO.

Never seen the second half so I can't comment. After the second try Marsh should have been brought on for Taylor...... may have made a difference but we'll never know.
