Vlandys has been very quiet last couple of weeks I notice! Media are so far up his jacksy they won’t ask him the hard questions. Meanwhile fans get more frustrated/bored and watch something else instead.

I have said before the standard is poor. It has been like that for a few years though.

What rules could the game bring in tomorrow that would make Dogs etc be better?

That is the problem with putting the blow outs down to only the rules. The rules slowly get wound back and you still have the holes in junior development.

Coaching is at an all time low. If I am starting up a side tomorrow and can pick any coach... There is only 4 I would want ( 1 of those isn't my club's coach either)

I am all for looking into the blowouts but need to be done as a overall look at everything including rules

agree. Few things top of my head why there are so many poor teams
- removal of 3 grades and teams using feeder teams has lessened development
- top 30 squads . This has been the worst ..teams have top 30 squads and unless decimated by injuries have to use those same muppets .. when we had 2nd tier cap etc for reserves , teams could promote gun players from lower grades and also meant clubs had to build depth within system
- covid last year with lower grades not playing and stalling of development
- useless coaches that can’t improve players and can’t coach a side ”because it was the previous coaches squad “
- stupid recruitment on big bucks long term then flogging them elsewhere and paying freight.
- coaches over reliant historically on giving away penalties deliberately to stop game and set defences
- lost art of tackling
- lost art of developing coaches .. how many clubs have system in place to develop their next coach from lower grades or assistants and are reliant on hiring an ex-rooster or storm assistant coach
- cookie cutter coaches that don’t know how to adjust their tactics throughout the game whether replacements or game tactics
-useless admin and coaches

Good effort by slothfield tonight to turn the heat off Vlandys and direct it at Wayne Pearce lol!
What you didn’t preface it with; Sloth asked why people on the commission with a football brain, that have played at this level, like Wayne Pearce, question these changes.

but hey, don’t let the true narrative get in the way of your anti-PVL propaganda

Like what Pete Said.

I also think they’ve been through a complete wringer in the last 18 months. Some will deal with it better than others, and it shows.

There’s been..
- Reduced salaries
- Covid bubbles
- Away from family (particularly Warriors)
- many rule changes, designed to increase “fatigue”
- CTE and concussion “scare campaigns”
- “crackdowns” - high shots and head contact with send offs n sin bins. Including statements from NRL hierarchy (Particulary Annesley) including “players have to learn”. Also constant dialogue in the media such as Paul Kent backing this up.
- increase in fines and suspensions in 2021.

combine that, with the constant intrusiveness of media in almost every aspect of their season. Press commitments, dressing room cameras, in-match/post match interviews, news reports, and many media types consistently scrutinising and criticising players - for pure headlines. Eg Greg Alexander saying Anthony Milford is “stealing money” from the broncos.. Yvonne Sampson saying she didn’t believe Ben Hunt was actually injured (ie faking a leg injury) in a game against the Warriors…

Yeah yeah, many others in society have lost jobs, income with COVID and the like but..

I can see why many players would be fed up. Yes, Vlandys got the game going again last year - great work. But ever since, my opinion is that these players have been treated like dancing bears at the circus.

It doesn’t excuse behaviours like Vaughan and co, nor putting anything other than your best in for the club that employs you, but I do think the last 18 months has taken a big toll on many players. Some definitely have not dealt with it better than others.

I genuinely feel for the players, and the referees this season. The clowns are running the NRL circus and the Media that sells it.

I think this is a pretty well balanced article and worth reading. Even for people who support the current situation

Essentially the game has removed a lot of tools weaker teams could use to help them. Let's focus on two of them. Firstly penalty goals. Yes, penalty goals are hardly exciting but they gave a weaker team the chance at points without having to go through a better teams defensive line and they would get the ball back from the kick off giving them possession.

Secondly the removal of offside as a penalty. Here is where I think the problem largely falls. Good teams (especially the storm) fly off the defensive line like maniacs. Offside or onside it doesn't really matter as long as

A) it's early in the tackle count
B) it's in the oppositions half but especially 20m
C) good contact is made

Now in the pre 2021 days if a team did that they would give away a penalty and the poor team being suffocated could take a breather and kick for field possession. Now they get a set restart (this might be on tackle 1 and 5m out from your own goal line)

I don't think it's a coincidence that the top teams are keeping their opponents in their own end in numbers not seen before.

Now so far so what but the nrl is still in the entertainment business and games are getting blown out earlier

Removal of the offside penalty (particularly when the opposition is carting out fo their own 20m), moving of scrums, and the reduction of scrums have all been shit rule changes and introductions.

So hang on a minute here... Are people genuinely wanting rules in place to allow a losing team to have a leg up to make it a closer game at the end...?

Teams need to get better, not change the rules AGAIN to give losing teams a way out of losing.

All teams are operating under the same rules, so to blame them for mediocre performances from shit teams is just silly.

Thats not what he said, and certainly wasnt the context! He started off by intimating that Vlandys gets the blame for everything then went on to put a target on Wayne Pearce. Whosew to say Pearce wasnt massively opposed, whose ot say Vlandys and his puppet Abdo even asked him?
I suspect now the tide is turning against VLandys his media mates will start to try and deflect to the other commisioners the blame for the screw up the game has become, first shots fired towards Wayne by Sloth.
Its funny that despite it being a committee that got the game back up after covid Vlandys got all the praise as the man that saved RL, now the sht is hitting the fan for them stuffing the game up it must be the committees fault not his lol.

In summary yes. If the rules are now magnifying the gap between the very good teams and the avg teams (lets not even worry about the 2-3 crap teams) then as an entertainment spectacle that gets most of its revenue from people watching the product on tv it is not a good thing. Even worse is we are about to negotiate a new fta tv deal, with the product being so poor at the moment it is hardly a bargaining position of strength. Too many changes all at once is the problem, if the 4 or 5 major changes made had been brought in over 4 or 5 years then teams would have slowly adapted and we might not have the scenario we have now. Rushing them all through at once has changed the entire fabric of the game.

Just ignore all the decent posts going over your head.

We get it, you don't want to hear anything other than how good the Panthers are.

This is a good post but have you considered just assembling a grand final calibre team?

It's not hard just stop losing geez.
