If you wanted to be serious a 100 metre sprint is the one thing Union has League absolutely beaten in.
Rugby could pull sub 11 runners out of their arse. Infact, Australia doesn't even have any stand out speed stars in rugby. Compared to NZ, South Africa, England etc they're pretty slow
League players are without doubt the superior athletes, but for some reason there isn't many super speed men. Probably because of the playing numbers.
I agree with you that Union has it over league in the speed department (even though I'm a league man).
I have no doubt I.Gordon, K.Gordon, Mead, Uate from league would have made a race of it though.
As you say Turner's 11.1 sec is hardly flying...
Rugby Union have some real speedsters ie: Chavanga, Habana spring to mind..they would beat that field by 5 metres..
Rugby League have had some speedsters over the different era's ..
ie: Shane Whereat 10.5 sec , Larry Corowa 10.6 sec from 70's
Ken Irvine, Michael Cleary & Ian Moir from the 60's were all genuine flyers.
