Rationalisation of Sydney

Here is a little trick I use Taipan. When I make a statement like that what I do first is do a little research, establish some facts, apply some analysis and then make a statement.
FYI the manly/north Sydney senior comp folded this year. They now play in the Sydney combined comps. I started a discussion about this in the Sydney comps thread. It got an interesting response.
I checked the north Sydney and manly junior teams. North Sydney grades over 7 are stable but under 6s have grown.
Lane cove reformed a couple of years ago and another club as well. Great news. But the real growth is in the women’s game. In other grades it’s pretty stable this year.
I’m sorry about these facts.

Sure you do Dave.

Here is another trick Taipan. Initial team registrations are always lower at seasons start. Particularly in the lower ages. You can’t really assess the numbers until June. Sharkies junior registration numbers make a big leap in June again in the 6 and 7 year age group. But not above over 13s. Those comps don’t change or very rarely do. They have a firm roster. As an example last year sharkies under 6s leapt from 42 to I think it was 71 teams between late April and June.
Re big footy, I used to go there but I don’t have an ID. I went there to look at the Wookiee’s analysis of nrl crowds and tv ratings. I don’t have to any more as he posts most of it here or in his industry page. He is very good.
I hope that helps.
You can now call me Dave.

By the way those of you who are seriously interested in growth should check out what parra have done. They joined their senior clubs into the combined comps to ensure they played at an appropriate level to their skill ie gold silver and bronze and then formed a two tiered 12 team under 20s comp. Now that’s clever!

Calling what? You have a serious problem.

LOL.You're continual postings in the fight club, suggests a pot calling the kettle.
I've been traipsing around the Nth Sydney area quite a few years ago, after they(Bears) were turfed.
You're telling me little that's new.

Interesting article on the North Sydney website.

It appears the junior game is in fine health in Bears territory. Hmm.. so I guess demotion of Sydney clubs to NSW Cup isn't the end of the world after all....

You guessed wrong. The numbers are very low! 1000! That's low! It's good to see some improvement but from a very low base. Please have comments with proper perspective .

You offer no perspective in your comment. What is low? What is high? What do similar areas have in their juniors? What’s the average numbers of junior players for every 100 children in Sydney? How does that compare to north Sydney?

You fool. I know of one junior club in Newcastle that had 600 players at one time. And you come up with that!? The figure of 1000 is ridiculously low for an 8 club junior competition anywhere in a metropolitan area. There's your perspective dummy!

The nrl feels very stagnant at the moment. Maybe when the roosters and storm are overtaken by other clubs it might get more interest. Some crowds are shocking and viewing in metro isn’t much to write home about. Needs some spark, if that is a Comp shake up or nrl to spend more of its revenue in fan engagement I’m not sure.

That’s funny because you told us kids in Newcastle didn’t play rugby league.

Lol. A number of years ago. To be explicit. This junior club I referred to had 600 juniors during the 70s. Then the decision to play senior games on Sundays started to deliver a junior flow (in their teens ) to union ranks. This same junior club has around 300 in number these days with some high profile coaches (ex Knights) in its set up.

So what relevance does quoting a figure of 600 have in this conversation?

Are you seriously suggesting that playing footy on Sundays halved a juniors club's participation?

I haven't noticed any significant decrease in interest personally but i do think punters must be getting very tired of Storm and Roosters being favourites year after year. Another Storm vs Roosters GF will not be good for the sport and then Broncos likely missing the finals on top of that.
Greenberg and Beattie must be praying for the Canberra Raiders fairytale :D

I would get rid of 6 Sydney clubs (through relocation or other) and bring in 2 new ones.

Historical and sporting reference! That's the relevance. In fact the same sport in the same nation and also a metropolitan scenario. What more do you want! But then again you have form!
