No. Thats not our problem. Our problem is JA and his lack of attack when we have already had 28 points scored against us!
It wasn’t our only problem, but it was a problem. We were scoring at will before he came on. That stopped instantly once we moved Brown from the halves. The fact our defence was horrendous doesn’t diminish this, particularly when it was the exact same scenario last year. He’s not yet a first grader and so he shouldn’t be in first grade yet.

Drown did f**k all before he moved to centre. Did well on the kick chase for Russell's try (which he could've done from any position) but otherwise all the try assists on our left were from Moses, Gutherson and Lane.
I’m not Brown’s biggest fan (although he was good in the trials and today) but he does things at speed, including distributing the ball in a shift play, which forces the defence to make a decision. JA doesnt. They can simply wait and see what he does and cover accordingly. You need to look at more than just the stats.

In terms of the overall performance we still dont seem ruthless enough like a storm or penrith when we have teams on the throat we just revert back to this lazy attitude in games.

It was similar to a game against the tigers last year on easter monday whenever we got out to a 14 point lead we then just switch off for 20 mins and all of sudden scores a level again.

We have won the game and its early days being round 1. But i am still concerned after today that just mentally we just drift in and out of games too much.

Sorry if it’s been mentioned and I missed it, but in the presser a journo mentioned an incident between Nathan Brown and Jarryd Hayne. I didn’t hear any context or further details. Anyone heard?
I heard someone suggest that Hayne pulled up at Nathan's place in an Uber, thinking he'd consented to sex through sms and was dtf...

I don't think there were any better options. Maybe Opacic? But then we would have no cover in the halves.
Matterson has played 6 before in first grade and as junior. So has cartwright.

Wouldn't be ideal but if thats the cards you get dealt with during a match you just have to deal with it.

Stats is all he looks at, unless they don't suit his argument then he goes off on another tangent that makes you go down the rabbit hole until you forget what you were even talking about in the first place. Never go full Pou.

My argument under Bea we have never been ruthless enough and our attention to detail is poor. You'd think a coach in his 9th season would have that sort of thing sorted out. But he still struggles with the bench and our edge defence. Oh well it's only been 9 seasons we need to give him time for stability!!!

But Mahoney also kicked a 40-20, tackled well, and passed superbly from dummy-half.

He is nor as good a runner as Cook, or Koiroisau, but his intelligence around the ruck is undevalued imo.

And gave away a 7 tackle set with a poor kick when it was at a critical point of the game. Mahoney passed the ball well. A good kick and a bad one.
Defense he gets pushed back a lot. Watch him closely and you will see.
I rate Mahoney but not as highly as some on here. I like a dummy half who can engage the line and has a run game that cause havoc

Brown, and Hayne, were out partying until 2am, and got into a verbal altercation with a council worker, who made a derogatory comment about Hayne.

I liked Matterson at 13. He was more involved and his passing is much better than NRowns.

I would keep him at 13 and move NRown to the Bench as a prop. NRown is like his body is like 5s lagging behind what he intends to do.

As for JA, send him back to NRL Cup. Or he should follow his father's footsteps and become a bush coach then come back as an NRL Assistant coach. I reckon he might just be good at that.

Look i also think its on the leaders on the field just as much as BA we drift out of games after getting to a 14-16 point lead.

BA called it out on a post match presser about it after a win last year but then said a week later he thought he was too harsh on them. So he thought it was an issue. Then it wasn't an issue. But the game from memory was the tigers game he called it out on i thought he was spot on.

But there seems a thing with this side whenever things get too easy especially scoring points we seem to lose our defensive steel very quickly. Warriors game as well last year shoot out to a 24-0 lead then decided we didn't really want to tackle for the next 60 mins when we could have put 50 on them if we were smart.

Agree leaving Matterson in the 13, and Nathan Brown being bench relief in the centre rotations this year.

Though I reckon I'd stick with Maddie Studdon above putting J Arthur in the lower grade... (joke).

@TheRam I'd love to hear your review of the game.

Bar Lane and RCG we had no great performers. What worries me Ram is we are building a sinking ship. I feel like come end of 2023 it may need a full rebuild and we might be bottom 4 again. Unsure why I am getting this feeling and hope I am wrong but its the feeling I get.

I think sides may work out our style and our troops will get old faster then we want upfront. Gee I hope I am wrong but rarely am Ram.
But I feel like Saints and Dogs are closer to a premiership then we are.
