Rd13: Parra v Sharks GAME DAY thread (9/8/20)

10-15 years ago I would have agreed. But these days that is a knock on 95% of the time.

Nah not those. It finished so far behind him there’s no way it could have been knocked forward. I agree that plenty of balls that seem knocked back get called up these days, but I don’t agree that this one should have been one of them. I’d say the same if it was any other game team who did it.

except the Bulldogs.

The ball brushed his hand and finished 5m behind him. How the hell would that be considered a knock on?
I watched the game on Kayo and Greg Alexander said something like “that’s a knock-on, well it was a knock back but they don’t seem to have knock backs anymore, so I guess it’s a knock on but not really.”

Morris blaming the refs for everything.

Cleary reckons that the refs “managed” the other team back into the game. Will get sanctioned.

Meanwhile BA is focused on reducing errors and being better and smarter.

There are a couple of things I wanted to ask about though.
Why was it a drop out when Gutho didn’t clean up the ball on the ground, then Wade Graham knocked it on? Gutho eventually grounded it in the in-goal so I’m assuming the ref didn’t think either Gutho or Graham knocked it on. Should have been a scrum to us 10m out.

Also down the other end, a Sharks player (can’t remember who it was) knocked the ball on into Moses, the ball ricocheted off Moses into the in-goal and a drop out was called. Surely the correct call there is a scrum to us where the Sharks player knocked it on 10m out from the Sharks’ line, right?

Am I getting this wrong?

Also how funny is it to see a first grade coach that doesn’t know the rules. Yes you are allowed to push in scrums. Teams don’t usually do it because the ball is in and out so quickly there’s no point. You’re just better off breaking as soon as you can and get onto the defensive line.
Maybe if your team didn’t hold the ball in the scrum trying to catch us offside you would have won the scrum, you idiot.
This is something we have done at least twice in the last 12 months although i can't recall if we had success with it. No doubt a play that they practice and a damn good one when it comes off.

We did it successfully this year against Tigers (I think?). I reckon teams will stop trying to catch us offside

Poor decision by the ref, but Gutho was unsighted and didn't know to challenge it. I deadset supploded at that point. As usual commentary didn't make anything of it. It cost us a try. Also, the offside call against Mulitalo in the first half. He didn't even ground it. Was this mentioned anywhere?

Hahaha he is bitching about whether you can push in a scrum too ... well if you are gonna try and play smarty pants trap the ball in the scrum, then suffer in your jocks

You are just being a dick.
Yeah it was a joke

I tell you what, we are a bit lucky. About 1hr after the match the winds came through ... it would have been a whole new level of shit weather during the game if that had come earlier

We lost that game ... i think it was 6-1 ... they scored a try right at the end. I think it was 2-1 all from field goals before that ... that was the game when the other jeremy smith pushed the ref i think

One of Hayne’s first matches and attempted to ground a kick like Sivo tried yesterday

8-1, pretty sure it was the Jeremy Smith pushing through ref in the back game.

I wouldn't read too much into a game played in those conditions

take the 2 points and move on
I read a whole lot to how we played in those conditions. In years gone by we’d have shat ourselves. But we looked composed and confident, even when perhaps we shouldn’t have been. Being overconfident in our ability to keep teams out may be our downfall.
