RD15: Parramata Eels Vs Storm AAMI Park 2pm 22/6/14

I thought the refs were really poor today - lack of consistency. Parra were marked very hard in the ruck and don't get me started on the so called phantom crusher tackle on Norrin. I believe it was a turning point in the game- Parra were only down by 8, it was late in the tackle count- then the Storm scored off the next set of 6.

I though Joseph Paulo was horrible for Parra today. He is a hybrid but not really one - lacks the size to go forward (sick of his crab like runs) and did nothing in attack. He also gives away stupid penalties and makes crucial mis tackles.

That was a huge turning point! How the video ref called that as a crusher tackle was beyond me.

Once again the Storm were allowed an eternity to complete a tackle. As Tooves says "There HAS to be an investigation"!!!

Really we just made too many errors with the ball to pose any real danger.

The turning point was when Pauli knocked on right at the start on the game when we were right on the attack. We'd got the first penalty in a game, which is a miracle in itself, then the maggots and the refs gave it to us from there.

Done and dusted. It was always going to be hard to win in deep, deep south. The fact we were better there this time augers well for the future. Next time we will lose by 10.

My Take

1-We need a captain, someone to settle the players down.

2- Pauli Pauli needs to be used smarter. He is our x-factor.Dont get him taking hit ups on the first or second 10mtrs out.

3- We need a defensive lock.

4- Morgan will take Tonga's spot soon

5- We try and play razzle dazzle too early in the game

1. It'll be Nathan Peats, but he can't get on the paddock for the rest of the season.

2. Agree, Pauli is best off the bench, when we have a fuller compliment of non-injured forwards. I don't know why we don't give Kelepi more game time - I'd start him in the pack next week, and have Pauli come on after 25mins.

3. I'd say we're stuck wih Paulo in that role, until his contract is up. Will be interesting to see if we're in the market for anyone else as a lock, or whether Arthur will adapt the game plan once Paulo has moved on, making use of the back rowers we have in the club.

4. Well, it comes down to which two of our three centres are fit. It's not even a choice until Hoppa makes it back (post Origin?), and if Morgan keeps his form up, then he'll go close to staying in first grade. He would be the sensible choice to develop for next year, when Tonga moves on.

5. We still need to try and establish the advantage at the ruck first, and save the flashy stuff until after the first 20 mins. Our front row rotation is still a little behind that of other top 8 clubs.

It shouldn't have even been on report, but you're probably right.

Suity

Would not surprise me in the least, Korny.

Paul Vaughan (young Canberra prop) got two weeks for a similar non-crusher.

Mannah in the set before had both of arms pulled back in a deliberate action, it's crap. Storm get away with murder.

I'm pretty sure Mannah was done for an accidental crusher earlier in the year too, but didn't miss a game.

Today's was not a crusher, not even anywhere near it! Smith just used his influence to get his way!

I don't know if I'd call the refereeing biased - that is suggesting a form of dishonesty.
I would say however, it was extraordinarily inept and inconsistent. We were penalised early in the game for holding the tackled player down, yet we did far worse ones as the match went on that went un-penalised. The Storm were much worse than us generally in this department.
What pissed me off just as much or even more was the line speed by the Storm defenders when we were attacking their line. They were all constantly off-side and getting in our faces forcing errors, yet it took till the 53rd minute for the refs to award a penalty for it.

It's the inconsistency that pisses me off.

Suity

I wouldn't suggest that he was dishonest but in saying that I wouldn't suggest he was honest either.

The inconsistencies are the biggest issue. If you are going to call it them call it through out the game. If you don't call it then don't call it when the other team starts doing it.

It's not just isolated to one or two referees though. It's the whole lot. One referee has a different interpretation to another and that should simply not be the case. The call that is made in one game should be the exact same as the other game.

I feel for the players and while I don't condone the comment Sandow made I can understand 100% why it was asked. The players and coaches are held accountable. The referees should be made front a press conference at the end of a game and be held accountable for what they did as well. Until that happens there will always be questions like the ones that both Sandow and Gallen have asked.

The two things that basically cost us the game today.

1. Joseph Paulo, the guy is rubbish. What people on here see in him I will never know.

2. The refs, one of the most one-sided reffing displays I've seen in a long time. I don't blame Chrissy for the comments he said

Gee I can handle most the decisions except the following

- crusher against gower
- forward pass ruling before gower tackle
- Sandow sin binning, I will accept this but why wasn't a storm player sin binned in the first halve. Towards the later part of the first half we had a few tackles on the storms try line and they gave away several penalties knowing they couldn't handle our attack. Someone should have been sin binned.
- slaters knock on but then penalty. If this was a penalty than we should have had another 10 as storm were doing it all day.
- when attacking their try line, storm were always of side.
- penalty prior to Sandow being binned.
- several storm forward passes to proctor.
- extra attention on Pauli

Update - gee didn't realise how many issues I had

Without reading the previous 38 pages my take on the game for what it's worth (a f*cking lot mind you)

I thougjt that Melbourne played pretty much as well as they possibly could, whereas we had good spells of play but overall were poor in our execution.

Combine that along with the fact a fair few crucial 50-50 calls and general bounce of the ball type stuff going against us most of the afternoon really hurt. Despite this though up until Sandow got himself marched we were still definately in the contest.

Overall I think there was still a lot of positives to come out of the game, I'm just putting it in the 'bad day at the office pile'

We need to pick ourselves up for next week, on form we should handle the Knights but they are one team we always seem to sh*t ourselves against and find a way to lose

Melbourne Storm should change their name to Melbourne Two Books
2x lots of Contract books (at least) & 2x lots of rule books!
One that they get reffed by & one the opposition have to play by.
NRL u need to be less obvious that I want Melbourne to succeed for the greater good of Rugby League!
I'm not saying we would have won as we made some mistakes but really we were never a chance either way!
