I've had non parra supporters message me and say that the refs were absolutely one sided today. And these are mates that hate parra.

Ohok. How come the game was so much faster and people where saying some teams will struggle. What rule made it like this?

I'm pretty sure it was that no-third-man-below-knees rule. But teams have adjusted by hitting the knees and sliding down, either that or refs have just stopped penalising it.

Joseph Paulo, the guy is rubbish. What people on here see in him I will never know.

It's more the fact that his coaches rate him. I wouldn't re-sign him, but while he's on contract I understand why three coaches in a row have picked him in first grade every week. Him and Mannah are the only two players to have appeared in every game Brad Arthur has coached, including the six in 2012.

Dunno if the coaches rate him that highly Poups?
Maybe they do, but just as likely is the fact he had more than 5 FG games under his belt before the season started, and so was pegged as the backrow vet.

He has many skills, but is just so weak. But using his skills marginally outweighs throwing a rookie in there (rookies tend to be poor defensively anyway - so why not use seffas skills in the short term).

TIme to get rid of sef. He rucks it up probably 1m, he grabs at tackles and was not worth having him there. Gower came on and basically did what Sef does.

Not the first time this year Gower has played that role. I also prefer it when Gower does the job since he will also ruck it out of our own end!

Parra aren't going to be the worst team in the league for the next 3-4 years like the last 3-4. They have got some quality coming through and done some good recruiting like Peats, Ma'u, Hoppa, Paulo, Edwards etc. Much better placed then the past half a decade.

Though that said there is still a big difference between them and the real top teams.

Shows the difference in quality teams.

The usual top teams like Manly, Storm, Rabbitohs, Dogs, Roosters all in a different league when healthy.

Storm were outside the 8 before full time of this game and everyone knew they were a far superior team. Same result for the above when healthy.

Keep it up Parra and keep building. Over the next few years if they can keep the bulk together they should become a genuine threat.

You are probably right.

Bad culture takes 18 months to change. So far this year has been very bright, but it is like Clearys first year at the Panthers, some hopeless games strewn around.

We are all so starved for success that we want it all if we arent awful. Hopefully we can put the bad teams away down the stretch and make the 8. Would be a huge experience and a massive step in the right direction.

Gower also makes less mistakes.

I watched the replays closely on some of the breaks Melbourne made and looked at who missed the tackle. u guessed it number 13

I think that's part of it, but in Arthur's' case he has also deliberately designed a lot of our attack around paolo. I think he also appreciates the fact that he complements the other playmakers.

That was a costly loss.
If we had won we would be 4 points clear of the Storm.
Not so much the loss but the manner in which we lost.
Very important that the team has a big win against Newcastle.
Not just solid , but a real 100% performance.
And I am confident this will happen.
We can bitch and moan about refs and the rub of the green , and what a scummy team Melbourne are, but at the end of the day we are still in the eight with a very good chance of consolidating.
May not win the comp this year , but just being able to play into September is a huge result.
BTW special kudos to Corey Norman for his WallyLewisesque pass to Semi.
particularly cause the guy is left handed

What does he do Bigfella?

Genuine question!

My observations:
1st job: play the forwards through the middle (ie, stand 1 off, and have a big guy running to one, or both, sides, attract some defence in order to promote their meterage)
2nd job: run the ball (if the gap opens up for him)
3rd job: pass the ball to the halves on the long 'swing' plays

In the Penrith game, when Paulo goes to hooker, Gower plays the role, and does it well. He seemed fairly comfortable on the long swing plays, and perhaps didn't play the forwards through the middle quite as much (but that's weeks ago now and my memory is hazy)

I don't think it is designed around Paulo, more a case of using the skills of an experienced player the best way possible?

I think we put Sef at lock to play the 3rd play maker role, no doubting that but one of the main jobs of a decent back rower is to defend and if he cant do that he would better suit playing 5/8 like he did several times last year.

If he cant defend he shouldn't be in the pack and I dont think thats where his future will be which ever club he ends up with.

Parra got what they deserved today.

They didn't turn up to play. They didn't want to do the hard yards. Everything they wanted to do it had to be flashy play. Melbourne will just grind away and put you away if that's what you want to do.

Melbourne were too committed, they sort of needed the win more than Parra did.

Parra need to work on too much for mine before they will worry the better sides in the comp. I'm still not convinced we're a Top 8 side this year and at this stage with the Warriors, Storm and Cowboys all outside the Top 8 I'd have to back Parra to miss the Top 8.

I'll pay this (saves me typing it).

Yesterday was all about energy. Hayne lacked it and so did the rest of the squad.

Storms line speed was excellent. As was their ability to lay all over the tackled player and not get penalized. It was SoO Game II all over. I was screaming at the TV for the refs to penalize the 2nd man in flop. Nothing. The ref called held and Storm would just count 1 2 3 and then slowly stand up. It sapped all the momentum from our attack. Add their superior line speed and we were hitting walls.

I was pissed at the Sandow sin binning. Saw this AM that Cartwright was pissed at Nate Myles getting the same treatment. I get that you can't question integrity, but should it cost you the game. Does the penalty fit the crime ? How many times have I heard Thurston say something similar ?

Gower does not play the role as good as Seph. Problem is Seph only plays the role well when para are dominating.

He would suit a team like dogs who already have great defense and need a bit more spark in attack as there halves aren't the most creative

I think the fact we have continually had 1 or 2 of our better forwards injured or suspended has helped that.

As we have seen a number of times this year he has started off the bench

Storms line speed was excellent. ?

Not hard to do when constantly off side. They had a plan to be off side especially out wide to stop our attack thus stopping us from spreading the ball wide like we normally do. They were also offside whenever we attacked their tryline.

Bellamy clearly had a plan to stop our attack and the ref complied.

I think Paulo keeps his spot apart from being a part of our attacking structure, he provides cover for hooker.

It's paulo's defence which let's him down.

I reckon the reason he hasn't re-signed yet is because Arthur is waiting on an answer from Jamie Buher before deciding on paulo's future
