What defines quality Cliffy? You could definitely make a case that quality entertainment is that which is appreciated by a lot of people.

Different target audiences - there's entertainment made for the masses and entertainment made for a specific audience, or maybe no audience in particular, just whoever appreciates it. For what they are...in their area, Lady Gaga and Justin Beiber are quality *i feel dirty*. The goal of course being to churn out catchy, easy music with radio appeal and make lots of money.

Personally, I'm happy with the majority of people not liking or understanding my taste in music. Let them have their shitty pop/club music. Mainstream influence on art is usually negative.

So now they've gone from musicians (don't get me wrong, I agree they suck dogs balls), to performers?

So their performances aren't quality?

Well have you seen Lady Gaga dance? I saw an ad with her dancing, she's terrible. What I was saying is they are more performers than musicians as they don't really create or play any music.

There good performers in the sense they engage the crowd.

I guess it comes down to how you define quality and how you define music. My definition of what should be considered "music" and how I define "quality" makes me unable to see them as quality.

I don't see the goal of releasing music to make money.

I won't go as far as saying the goal of pop music is to make money (presumably, pop stars legitmately are passionate about what they do...) but it's certainly an important factor - if it doesn't make money, it isn't on the radio, it would cease to exist. There is no 'underground' pop music scene where people don't give a f**k about money or fame and do it just because they feel like it.

As for the definition of music - people are always claiming genres they don't like/understand aren't music. You get pop fans saying death metal isnt music and metal fans saying rap and hip hop arent music. Pop music is certainly music. Shitty, vacuous pleb fad music perpetuated by rich record company suits, but music nonetheless.

Everyone thinks their music taste is original and away from the mainstream until they're standing in line at one of many scheduled concerts with about 5000 other people.

They aren't musicians or singers and they offer nothing authentic in terms of their "music" (and I use the word music loosely). They are not music artists, they are merely performers, they don't compose the music on their albums, they are just the product being sold, they're a brand not musicians, this isn't about taste. You can't say something is subjectively authentic, you can't call someone an artist when they aren't even creating the art.

Yes I'm a music elitist, you can't genuinely care about music and not be.

Mate, i used to think the same as that... then one of my lecturers made a good point... we can go on saying music like beiber and brittney spears isn't art, as to us they present no real aesthetic quality that we see to as culturally valuable... but think of the 10 year old girls who buy their records. they sing along with the music, and often times make their own dances to go along with it. to that end, this music is providing a massive demographic with an avenue in which to express their creativity. with that in mind, how can we say it isn't art? extremely low brow art, sure. but art none the less.

Having said all that, yes. beiber, gaga, spears are all rubbish in my eyes, and shows like AD (which is my fav show of all time), seinfeld, curb and it's always sunny will forever both be infinitely better and eternally in the shadow of 2.5 men and BBT unfortunately

Pleasantly surprised by new girl. Was expecting hipster elitist junk but after 6 episodes im laughing a lot and generally interested in the show. Schmidt has some of the best lines on tv.

And two broke girls just makes you want to eradicate all laugh track machines from the planet. I got 1 1/2 episodes in before i couldnt stand another second of a cliched and childish joke being followed by ten seconds of canned laughter. That show would only go for 3 minutes without the laugh track.

Just watched the first 10 episodes of new girl. I really like this show, good characters that work well together, pretty funny in general. Liking the schmidt, the douchebag jar is a classic!

I lost interest in New Girl as soon as it was evident that Coach wasn't coming back (episode 2). He was by far the funniest in episode 1... so they pretty much killed themselves with their own sword on this one.

Don't lose interest mate, it gets well funny, schmidt is a killer.

You can watch wayans on happy endings, he's well funny in that.

Weird, I think New Girl has progressively gone downhill, while 2 Broke Girls started strong, fell away, then started to climb back. It was almost like they changed writers or something around the 5th episode. Though it is getting somewhat predictable.

Suburgatory I thought was going to outshine them both but it too went the way of New Girl. It's almost ended up a 22 minute Desperate Housewives with a teen twist.

I love 2 broke girls. The way Max just twists re-phrases Caroline's words to make them sound either dirty or obvious is hilarious lol. Love it. By the way the Ukrainian cook is LOL x 1000. In either episode 6 or 7 he says "Once you go Ukraine, you will scream in sexual pain" and the little Korean guy who runs the joint with his accent and typical Asian persona is a killer.

Watched first episode tonight. Its a bit edgy and the dialogue is punchy in parts. Inm sure it'll improve as the series progresses. Loved the line;

"I'm sorry! I thought I was being raped!"

"That's not what rape feels like!"
