Round 14 V Dogs

Were the Bulldogs a far better team then most on this forum gave them credit for , or did we not play up to expectations ? Where are the people whom predicted the 20 + 30 + 50 + score line in our favour . We were never going to win by such a amount , the game would be a bit of a shat fight , more so with our own ' Napolean ' directing our tactics .

Bulldogs have a good pack but probably the worst halves in the comp. I hoped our halves combo would run rings around them. They did for 10 minutes, but that was it.

Why have Jacob Host on the bench & not play him at all ?
Because the game was in the balance Mary and myself would have preferred to have had the likes of Sims, DeBelin and Frizell on the field. I think Mary did the right thing. Host's time will come.

I wish we hadve lost just to hear Mary blamed for it.

Two knock ons by Aitken ..Mary's fault
mann knock on ...Mary's fault.
SOO player Vaughan missed tackle on Morris... Bloody Mary again.
Mann not taking the cross kick for dogs try... Mary should've been drilling those more during the week.
Etc
Etc

Anyway...looks like the boys are just in a cruise mode at the moment.

One of the games we would've lost the last couple of years..just like the Anzac game and the storm game. Buuuuuuut ignore that and give it to Mary. Cmon, you know you want to....
Well said.

Have a look at the Bulldogs results this year when they have lost. They got gapped in the first two games but after that they haven't been given a bath by any other team. They have that revolting style where they drag you into a dung heap arm wrestle and it becomes bloody tough. You either blow them away early or they drag you into the mud; so I will take 2 points every day.

My major concern is the "elephant in the room". I would defy any serious Dragons supporter to state they don't have a soft spot for Jason Nightingale. What a great club-man he has been; but bringing him off the bench to take hit ups in the last 15 minutes is sad. To leave a young forward like Jacob Host on the bench when this should have been his job is equally sad and quite frankly if I was young Host I would ask my manager to scout other teams.

I remember seeing a tremendous interview with the Liverpool FC Manager back in the mid 1980's when Liverpool ruled the football world and he said that he was ruthless in letting go of players who were just one inch over their best. No room for sentiment; if you were holding up a younger player you were gone.

This is becoming problematic. I love the bloke but a serious decision needs to be made. We have enough back-line defensive liabilities as it is.

Those big margins were always pipe dreams. Bulldogs are easily the best of the dwellars, in fact they've bin in many of the games they have lost

That coupled with the hoodoo means we should be very happy with this win

Of course they were pipe dreams , however you cannot tell me that the Bulldods are " the best of the cellar dwellers " - they are cellar dwellers that is the point - they will not be in the finals , but the Dragons will and we will all be bitterly disappointed if we can not get pass week I or 2 . More so after leading the pack for most of the year , we must show more and by that I am also referring to the correct use of our bench .

Nightingale in the forwards , who would had thought , only our Mary could come up with that ! I am pleased that the Dragons came away , in a very hard fought contest against the Bulldogs with the 2 points . But I am looking towards the end of season matches and something tells me not to expect too much , that is a pity as I truly would like to see the team play as well as possible .

Being the best of the cellar dwellars doesn't meant a loss would have been acceptable. It means they are the best of the bottom, and probably a bit better than their ladder position suggests. But that we should still win.

How good is Tariq Sims ? I love his passion & aggression.
Tariq is probably the form second rower int he comp this season. I think he should be NSW second rower. If Cordner wasn't penciled in as NSW captain, then he probably would have been picked for NSW. He would probably be a better selection on the bench than Crichton(who I have a very high opinion of), because he is tougher and can cover the middle too.

Yes indeed Johnno , I recall after the first few matches thinking that they shall form a far better combination as the season goes on , but it has been a bit of a stop- start affair with them . As you have said they need to pick their game up considerably .

Penrith lost to the Dogs and Souffs fluked a win in the last minute against them as well.
I was simply looking for a statement of intent in that game. I don’t think we got it.
Absolutely pumped we got the win but it’s a bit like the equivalent game vs. the Tigers last year. We started like a house on fire, fell in a heap & would have lost but for an inspired Widdop.

This is true, but why the heck did Mary only use 15 and a half players instead of the full 17.
Because he wanted his best 15 players on the field as for as long as possible. Do you think that Host would have done a better job than Sims or Frizell? I think Mary did the right thing. I would have done the same thing if I was coach. Tell me what you think Mary should have done instead?
