Edwards needs at least 40 minutes to get ready for the next 2 weeks, hopefully Laurie gets a chance.
Sharks and tigers will be fired up after our last games.
I would give Luai a rest for Burton, at the moment it seems May is our backup half and centre.
He has proven capable at both and with Whare, to’o and Staines to comeback he hopefully won’t be needed in the backs again but I would still like to see some game time for Burton.
I would also rest Martin, and start May in the back row.
Our Bench is probably the best in the game at the moment, I would keep it as Laurie, tetevano, Lenui and Leota.

We need to give the warriors respect they can beat us
New coach new players coming to club. Some of there players could well be playing for contracts. It is a very dangourus game
Rest players for no reason could well bite us back.Sure if well ahead give some of the boys a early night

It's not for no reason. Winning now at the expense of finals isn't what you want either.

No game is a sure thing. In saying that though, you want your best come finals so resting players when we're in the position we're in, is probably the best way to go about it. You don't plan to win the minor premiership, you plan to win the grand final and resting players with niggles gives us better stead toward the latter.

We're already in a position where we can take a risk though - Do you seriously want us to go hard for the minor prem and risk injury to do so?

Resting players doesn't = falling out of the top four... that's an assumption, and a pretty big one considering every player we name doesn't look out of place.

There is plenty of games we haven't looked safe until the last 5 mins. It isn't like we have been totally in control every game.

Lets say we play Burton instead of Luai. He hasn't played for 8 weeks or so you don't think it's likely he is a bit rusty and may miss tackles etc?

So your argument against resting players is some hypothetical scenario you made up? Ok...

Anyway, the whole point of my post is you don't make decisions like this based on winning the minor prem, you look long term towards the finals. 1-8 make the finals so as long as we're there, we're a chance. No?

That is what you weigh up when resting players though.

I said to rest players just not yet. We end with

Brisbane
Parra
Cowboys
Dogs

Plenty of chances to rest players once top 4 is locked in. Then IF we do drop a game it doesn't matter too much.

What happens if we burn guys out waiting that long and hit the stretch home missing some of our best guys?

We are 7 points ahead of 5th place. As nice as the minor premiership would be. Finishing anywhere in the top 4 affords us the same chance in the finals anyway. There's also no reason to think resting guys against weaker team means we lose anyway... We can win the minor premiership and rest guys.

Considering our results with a roster that has changed constantly. I dont see why people fear losing by resting a guy or two.

I get what you're saying mate - But I'm of the belief that dropping a game now wouldn't be the end of the world either, and that just because you rest players, it doesn't always translate into losses.

Unless there is an injury I wouldnt rest either of the halves. They are playing well and they are both young so I dont see us gaining a lot by resting Jerome(unless there was injury of course) and id never rest Nathan in his current form. If Burton comes in and kills it what do we gain? A bunch of media personalities giving their opinions on Burton V Luai and potentially causing some disharmony in the squad. We know Burton is there in case of an injury as well as May who could slot in easily, if we are going to rest guys it should be players carrying niggles and the forwards.

That’s a good point.
I was only thinking a bit of game time for Burton in case he is needed but you are right, the media would go berserk if he had a big game.

Im desperate to see him get a run again but all the guys who come in and haven't played for ages such as Kenny and MWZ and even May have hit the ground running so I think they are doing a good job keeping the depth guys ready.

Id like to see Laurie off the bench as he potentially gives us another option at fullback if we can get him some minutes and he handles it.

Have you seen Canberra's draw? They likely drop one game only but that isn't the only reason

You want the backup guys having a run as close to the finals as you can so they are match fit. say we give Kenny a run now that will still be 7 weeks between games. The closer the better.

You can always give players less work at training etc if they need it. They very likely want to play every game if you asked them anyway

I don't think anyone in any team plays every game. It is choosing the best time the issue we have is our top spine hasn't had that much gametime together. Someone is usually missing.

So it is choosing when is best time to miss a game or 2 for the halves. Do you want them getting combinations then missing or resting up and going hard against Dogs in Round 20.

It is a good problem to have

I’m confused and interested in everyone’s thoughts.

Why do we think T.May is being picked ahead of Nado in the Centre’s? I love May as a footballer and I think he does a great job, but surely Nado is a better centre.

Do we think it’s because Ivan thinks that Nado is a better winger than MWZ? If so, does Nado go back to the centre’s when T’oo is back? Or does Ivan not like Nado in the centre’s?

Personally, I don’t think MWZ did anything wrong and our team would be more dangerous with Nado in the centre’s and May in the 14, MWZ on the wing.

Thoughts?
*Also, this isn’t a whinge, I think May is more than capable of doing a good job.
