I am seriously done with aitken.

If anyone is looking for why we lost that game, look no further than his inability to make a single tackle when he had 2 or 3 chances to stop that last try.

Piss poor.

Let his team down badly.

Must be dropped...
I agree wholeheartedly..stood and watched no urgency..fed dinkum.
I tell you what else cost us...for once we win the ruck making yards...Leilua does a good offload 2nd phase we nearly created our 2nd try in 1st 15 minutes until Host thought he is some sort of halfback and botched it. Then zip. McInnes makes yards and we never look for an offload. We actually supported the ball carrier all night and no one off loaded.!!!!!!!!!!
That is why we cant beep the good teams we dont play football
Thurston said it 100% at the end we got a player like Dufty and our halves can not look to create a hole for him.
There we go Nicholls 2nd and last game of NRL.
Field went it counted was poor and had the dropsies.
For those daying Field is as good as Dufty..no comment... Field will never be a 1st grader
Rant over and typical we tried hard, probably played stronger overall and still cant win or attack when it counts

Can’t get over Host giving that penalty away in easy kicking range with 4 minutes to go. The Storm and Saints had already been pinged for it. It was a soft penalty but a dumb one. All I can think of was that he was fatigued and it impacted on his decision making. I think I might be being a little kind there.

any idea if lats got injured ? not sighted after his first stint . thought Kerr had a few good runs but a short stint . i think Lawrie should be used in shorter bursts and Luc had a much improved game but was kept on whilst tiring . thought it was strange that sims gets replaced early in the game would have left him on and given someone else a spell agree field didnt show anything BUT remember he has only played the last 10 minutes of games ( once again supercoach and his bench ) Host definitely needs a rest instead of trying to give 80 minutes . thought they took wrong option often maybe playbook said give to field he is quick !!! Gutsy effort though I didnt expect to be that close at the finish. Still too much one out crap when we need to string passes together thats where we might get duffty and field hitting holes Agree Aitkin and his sprinting out of the line is a liability and you would think he could be to get it out of his game hopefully lomax and graham are back for the raiders Anyway we put up a darn good effort just means supercoach probably gets extended
have a good night guys !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Poor discipline you have to be kidding
Ref singled him out for a standard escort and good on him for trying to drag KB to his feet to play on I am sick if refs not making players play on quickly
Other than today game where do you think he had he been ill disciplined?
He’s an arm grabber in defence and looses his head ... agree to disagree

Dragons go down in Emergency Services Cup

A late penalty goal by Melbourne captain Cameron Smith enabled Storm coach Craig Bellamy to celebrate his 300th premiership win against an undermanned St George Illawarra side in wet and miserable conditions at Win Stadium on Thursday night.

Smith secured the 16-14 triumph with a 75th minute penalty goal as Melbourne extended their winning run to seven consecutive matches to ensure they will retain a six-point lead at the top of the NRL ladder at the completion of this weekend’s round 16.

However, the depleted Dragons ensured Bellamy had a long wait before knowing whether he would join Wayne Bennett, Tim Sheens and Brian Smith as the only coaches to have won 300 premiership matches.

Bellamy is just the second coach after Bennett to have achieved the feat with a single club and Smith, who will next week become the first player to play 400 NRL matches, has been involved in almost every win overseen by his mentor.

Smith has played more than 500 elite level matches, including 56 Tests, 42 State of Origins, World Club Challenge and All Stars appearances, and the experience of the former Australian and Queensland captain was a significant advantage for Melbourne on Thursday night.

Hughes finishes after Storm props break it open

With Ben Hunt, Corey Norman, Tyson Frizell and Paul Vaughan on Origin duty, Tariq Sims suspended, Gareth Widdop, James Graham and Zac Lomax injured and Jack de Belin unavailable due to the NRL’s “no-fault stand down” policy, the Dragons were missing the combined experience of 1371 Telstra Premiership appearances.

The Storm were also without Origin representatives Cameron Munster, Felise Kaufusi, Will Chambers, Josh Addo- Carr, Christian Welch and Dale Finucane, as well as injured centre Curtis Scott, whose combined experience totalled 673 NRL matches.

It was a sign of how depleted the Dragons forwards stocks were that Jeremy Latimore scored the opening try in the seventh minute – a time of the match he had not previously been on the field since his last starting appearance with Penrith in 2014.

The veteran prop’s elevation to the starting line-up enabled St George Illawarra team-mate Mitch Allgood to make his first NRL appearance in five years when he was playing for Parramatta and setting “schnitzel challenge” records before becoming a vegan during a stint at Hull KR.

Latimore, who did not see any action until the 56th minute of last Friday night’s defeat of North Queensland after hitching a ride to WIN Stadium on the back of a motorbike, pirouetted his way over the Storm line from close range to give St George Illawarra an early 6-0 lead.

The Dragons appeared set to score again soon after when an offload by second-rower Luciano Leilua sent fullback Matt Dufty flying into space and he found fellow speedster Jai Field in support but the rookie five-eighth was tackled by Melbourne fullback Jahrome Hughes.

The Storm hit back in the 17th minute when halfback Brody Croft put Joe Stimson into a gap and the Belmore-bound second-rower crashed over to give Cameron Smith the opportunity to level the scores at 6-6 with his conversion.

The try followed a knock on by Field, who was placed on report for a crusher tackle, and another dropped ball by winger Mikaele Ravalawa on his own 30-metre line put the Dragons under more pressure.

A 7-2 first half penalty count didn’t help but despite a glut of first half possession the Telstra Premiership leaders did not breach the St George Illawarra try line again before the interval and went to the break with an 8-6 lead after a 38th minute Smith goal.

A Field penalty goal levelled the scores at 8-8 in the 59th minute but Melbourne props Jesse Bromwich and Nelson Asofa-Solomona combined to put Hughes over for a 60-metre try just minutes later with clever off-loading.

Ravalawa again drew the scores level in the 69th minute when he ducked under the attempted tackles of Bromwich and his brother Kenny off an inside pass from Dufty to cross for his ninth try of the season.

However, Smith ensured the Storm’s winning run extended to seven matches when he kicked a 75th minute penalty goal after St George Illawarra second-rower Jacob Host impeded Hughes from challenging Dufty as he fielded a kick.

Ive given it to some of our blokes tonight probably 2 or 3 but on the whole I thought most stood up and had a go.....its that Im bloody disappointed that the game was there for the taking on several occassions but our 5th tackle options at vitall times was hopeless....how many times did we get caught with the ball on top of poor ball handling in attacking positions....thought Luc had his best game for us and was always looking to offload. ...Dufty tried hard all night but still needs some urgency in his game when running the ball back...at least he was more involved under trying conditions.....agree with OT the ball went to Lawrie far to many times when other options to gain metres would have been better...Lafai should never had played and Fields just doesnt do it for me Im afraid....and dont get me started on Aitken......the bloke is clueless and I put their winning try squarely on his shoulders....for the life of me I just dont get why this club keeps persisting with him

Sorry Samy, have to disagree.

Host is a good starter but he's not an 80 minute player. We need to factor in an interchange for him early in the second half. He's been tiring around the 50th minute for weeks now. There were a couple of shirt grabs there that lead to at least 1 try tonight and there's been a few defensive lapses in previous games as well. At this early stage in his career, he needs a break in the second half.

Field isn't ready for first grade. There were a heap of last tackle plays that died with him. He needs more time in reggies if we are going to keep him. Backup only at this stage.

Luc is good in spurts but also tires quickly if left on too long. They were picking him off close to the ruck and making some easy meters when targeting him.

Lawrie doesn't make an impact. It's like watching someone hit a brick wall every time he runs.

These guys might be good in time, but at the moment they don't look like they are ready for the NRL. At least not week in week out.

Didn't get to see much of Kerr, Kaufusi or Allgood. They weren't on for long. But they seemed to do a reasonable job when they got their chance.

True B
I don't disagree but he did defend well tonight
Luc has all the ability and Talent in the world but lacks Fitness in my opinion but he is getting better. He's certainly putting in at training and not doing as many dumb things as he has been doing. I think kaufusi is worth a go he played solid tonight.
Kerr ran hard wish he would do it more often.
Algood is just average he tried hard.
Agree re field he has to do a lot more
But I was pleased with the effort tonight.
But as you said a bit better kicking game we would have won.
Imo

Perhaps I'm an idealist, but I come away from that match with more positives than negatives?

Granted Storm were affected as well, but when we are missing 8 of our first graders (9 counting JDB) and facing a Cameron Smith led Storm, to have scores leveled until a dubious penalty call near the end is a fantastic effort.

A number of blokes stood up, a got experience, and some had a tough night.

I thought Nicholls had a good performance, nothing flashy but he did his job. Field tried to pull off the miracle a bit too much, unfortunately I don't think he will end up a first grade 5/8 in the long run

Dufty had a pretty good night, I blame that long range try on Aitken 100%. Aitken must go. Very interested to see what happens when Lomax comes back. Remember Aitken actually was dropped to the bench and only got his spot back because of shuffling around due to injuries.

Hi All, standard Cummings refereeing of St George teams. Nothing suprises me when he has us., when I saw Cummings run out I thought oh no. Storm wrestle all night and I don’t know why it is never stamped out.

I saw Nicholls tackled mid air 1 half kicking. Brandon Smith looked like a shoulder charge on Nicholls 2nd half at least one of our few penalties.

Finally, doesn’t old vaughton death ride the dragons?

Only Mary coiuld find a "small win" in that brave loss. His words not mine. And those journos just patting us and him on the back. Well Done Mary & St George tonight.
Such a small win he has already calculated how many wins we need to make the 8 in the last 9 games..of course though he does not look at the ladder as he did say a week or 2 ago.
I tell you Mary -56 and on 14 points. 18 points will be 8th when Sharks win. We will need to win 8 out of 9...
there you go making the semis..101..seems pretty achievable to me.
BTW for those interested we will be 4 points (2 wins) ahead of last place.
