My thoughts (most have already been covered, definitely not revelatory):
1. both wingers have hands for feet, certainly not first grade standard.
2. both centres propensity to rush out defensively is a damning indictment of McGregor’s inability to improve player shortcomings,
3. Field cannot play in the halves if he cannot kick...has he kicked at least once in his first grade appearances so far? (No, I didn’t think so either). On the upside, we now know that Jai is physically able to play in the NRL. He will have to choose another position, however (perhaps fullback or hooker) to further his career. Goalkicking is a distinct advantage.
4. Nicholls tried hard but it’s clearly obvious why he’s only played two first grade game at age 30. At times tonight, I wondered if Josh McCrone had made a comeback.
5. under a competent mentor, Leilua would be far more consistent and dangerous to opposing sides.
6. the much maligned Latimore was so strong in the opening exchanges, his absence was noticeable. Why can’t he do it EVERY week?
A big bloke who usually doesn’t take advantage of his size.
7. McInnes’ had a blinder in most aspects, however, his propensity of heading the wrong way from dummy half is problematic, and cost Saints dearly at the end.
8. Korbin Sims continues to play well.
9. Kerr is an interesting proposition. He’s big, runs with urgency (usually), and usually dents the opposition’s defence. He also has a fantastic, quick play-the-ball. Fitness appears to be an issue because he seemingly gets tired pretty quickly. The other issue is whether McGregor will give him sufficient opportunities to demonstrate what Kerr could (potentially) offer the side.
10. SGI finally finds a replacement for JDB (Kaufusi), but...frustratingly...he’s left knee has more bandages than an Egyptian mummy.
11. Ben Cummins strikes again! He was looking to blow a penalty at the first opportunity. He should be deregistered. The undetected, massive forward pass in the lead up to Melbourne’s last try proved to be vital.
