Round 3 v Manly

I love how the team seems able to change gears during a match. Last week recovering from the early try against us and last night recovering from the wobbles at the start. I know we scored first and were switched on but that first twenty minutes or so looked like which team wanted to lose it more. Lots of dropped ball and it wasn’t great footy all round. We steered the ship right first, got the momentum and that was it for Manly. Going on with it after time in the sheds was brilliant to see also. Good times and so happy right now.

Hi everyone, let’s keep our feet on the ground.

At times the Sea Eagles were really pushing us back and offloaded well.

In this whole thread no one has mentioned Brayden Williame. My posts last year after his signing were positive. I noted that he would go well back in Australia. Got into his first trial match and looked very dangerous in attack for us. For whatever reason was dropped and then plagued by a recurring calf tear during 2020. A frustrating injury to beat.

Anyway, Hook takes over against all the naysayers and Brayden is promoted to 1st grade over a number of others. Tonight hit the gap off Bird, punched through and crashed into Walker and over he went.

No he isn’t a top liner but he has dash, awareness of hole running and strength through tackles. If he stays healthy he will be around the top 17 during the season. Let’s give him credit.
Another player stuffed by McGoose's love for EA.

Norman bombed a certain try & conceded a try off a soft dropped ball. Cost us 12 points.

Norman is a long way off proving anything, Manly didn’t challenge our kickers so sitting back kicking accurately with no pressure doesn’t impress anyone.

Hunt on the other hand was inspirational, playing on injured really set an example.

Norman is a useless marshmallow can’t wait to see the back of him so Sullivan can take over.
Rubbish

Norman still has a lot to do to earn his salary but he was good last night.

Sure he made some errors but he virtually took control of the team during the second half with Hunt playing on one leg.

Ball playing, kicking, directing traffic, setting up outside men, all the things he should be doing when required on his coin...
MOM as far as I'm concerned.

Seems the coach disagrees with your opinion , I'm not sure if he can keep it up but at present he's playing very well .....

Took a lot of pressure off Hunt.

I'll bag him when he's crap and praise him when he is good.

You are 100% correct. Plenty of passion for your team mates & the jersey. Only had to see how they all rallied around Lawrie when they thought he scored.

This is why I’m not in favour of the possible Andrew Fifita deal I don’t think he’s a fit for our culture. We’ve got a winning formula going no need to mess it up.
On what basis do you expect AF to break that culture?

Great that PO & Tariq had good games. Augurs well for our pack. Lomax is solid and a great goalkicker but no way SOO bound. Cant beat a man on on one at the moment and would love a yard more of pace. I rate him as a good player but not a superstar in waiting like some here.

Paul Vaughan played well again tonight making some great runs. Very pleasing result and Jack Bird has certainly added to the backline in both attack and great defence.
Bird has made a huge difference in attack and his defence aggressive no backward steps ...... Players around him are starting to follow his passion ..... Let's just hope no injuries to him ....

Just showed what our forwards can do with early ball in space. Well done AM and our halves. Listened to the coach. Everyone is enjoying playing to game plans that they can finally believe in.

The Bird / Ramsey and Lomax / Ravalawa combinations are improving every game, our halves are finally clicking with Hunt leading the team well. Hook was dead set instant on bringing McCullough to the Dragons (with McInnes here or not) and has been proved right a McCullough has made a vast improvement in the control of the ruck. The forwards are beginning to fire and finally earning their keep. If we sign Fifita for 2021/2022 and he also buys into the Griffin way, we will be knocking on the door for a top 4 position.

What a huge difference to the Mary era. I'm looking forward to the game against the Knights on Easter Sunday very much.
It's interesting that the only 2 stats that we beat Manly on were completions (Manly had no chance with their completion rate) and kick metres.
How many times did we dominate the stats and lose under the tutelage of McGregor.
What's emerging is a really up in your face, aggressive defence out wide with Bird having a huge influence on the defensive attitude of the whole backline.
7 years of bog average coaching is enough to demoralize any team.
How the heck did they ever gift two extensions to McGregor...mind numbing.

BIRD CHARGED
Dragons centre Jack Bird and Roosters forward Daniel Suluka-Fifita are both facing two-week suspensions following a review of Friday night's matches.

Bird was handed a contrary conduct charge after an incident involving Manly's Moses Suli

Both players can reduce their bans to one week with an early guilty plea.
