All the debate about Lomax vs Aitken on here assumes neither can play left centre (for coaching staff to get the thinking right that term needs to go and revert to 'outside centre'). It is an unfortunate part of the modern game that has crept in over past 10-15 yrs. A good first grade centre must have the ability to attack and defend on both sides ie. Latrell Mitchell, Greg Ingles or Gaz, Hodges. If we are talking 'Hard Nosed' team selections,

I would pick them both and put Lomax to outside centre (4), rest Tim Laifi. Mary isn't likely to do that so I would say go with Aitken for now, but tell him he is on notice defensively, pending being dropped if no improvement. I cannot understand why a back who is primarily a one position specialist is on the bench, so whoever out of Aitken, Lomax and Laifi doesn't get a run on spot, plays NSW Cup.

Jai Field has earned his elevation and should have played 6 in 2018 when Widdop got injured. Mary thought so highly of K Mann that he released him yet picked him above a quality local junior. Jai Field is a good kicker and should be given the job over the next month unless Lomax is on the field at that time. Speaking of Lomax considering Field is a good goal kicker, Lomax should only be picked because he the best option or it may act as a demotivater from giving his all for those 1% plays

As for four forwards on the bench, all I can say is the game allows the little men to take advantage of fatigue, so at least one position versatile creative smaller player should always be on the bench and to go with 4 forwards will make us super predictable. A hooker or a half who can play fullback or hooker competently, has to be 100 times better than an outside back who seems incapable of playing their best if not playing in their specialist position. Other two spots go to a workhorse forward who can cover backrow injuries, a Prop for resting starting guys, an impact forward (short intense bursts) and the forth is the creative hooker/half/fullback who can cover a few positions and most of all, spark the attack at the back half end of each half.

Tariq Sims isn't playing his best and may be injured but the play isn't going his way enough

1.Dufty
2. Maranta
3. Aitken
4. Laifi
5. Rapara
6. Field
7. Hunt
8. Graham
9. McInnes
10. Vaun
11. K.Sims
12. T.Sims
13. Lawrie (Frizzell if fit)
14. Luciana
15. Latimore
16. Kerr (Drops out for Lawrie if Frizzell fit)
17. Allgood

18th man Runciman (playing well, first grade experience who can play back row and as outside back well)

That team will win more than they loose im certain and I have no hatred of any I left out nor am I rusted on about any who I put in. Love to see Mary have that apptoach even if he picks different players
who the hell is rapara .......and Lomax is a far better kicker than Field......i presume you mean Periera.. ....and Lafai.....

If web need a definitive answer on the AItken V Lomax debate then take a look at the Sivo 2nd try (71st minute), Aitken rushes up, again, leaves his man unattended the ball is then thrown out to the unmarked man who in turn gives it to Sivo, with Aitken nowhere in sight.

The fact is Aitken is a powerful runner, dangerous with the ball, but lacks the finite skills required to be a centre. His decision making in defense has not improved in the last 4yrs and may have even cost us higher finishing positions.

Is Lomax better? time will tell, but defensively and teamwork he is superior. Add to the fact that with Widdop moving on, he needs all the game time to develop his goal kicking skills at this level.

If someone can post the pic from the 71m 08s that will show everyone what I'm talking about.
He also just stood there whereas if he chased he may have had a chance to get him as Sivo stepped inside twice.
If you watch Duftys try, Ferguson was beaten & had to get up off the ground to run Norman down. I realise they’re two different circumstances but one made an effort & one didn’t.

Thats not going to be a popular team list there with Latimore and Allgood both on the bench. And you've dropped a couple of forum favourites in Lomax and Host.
Put your seatbelt on mate, you may experience a bit of turbulence.

Sometimes I think some on this forum think we have a bottomless pit of players. With Norman, Korbin, JDB, Widdop and possibly Tyson out of action we still have some on the forum calling for the dropping of different players. Some of the players mentioned in this thread and called to be dropped or benched include Latimore, Dufty, Lomax, Aitken, Lafai, Luc, Rava and Lawrie. Where do the replacements come from exactly? Norman has to be replaced, Tyson probably as well. Finding two quality replacements will be a challenge, let alone finding three or four.

Your point is a good one but when plodders plod in the company of the best we gave how can you expect them to do any better when we are low on troops?
Latimore & Allgood v Timms and Kerr is a no brained despite the issues with the back row.

I don't really think there's much point rearranging the deck-chairs on the Titanic, cos the guy at the helm doesn't know how to avoid the iceberg.
Having said that, Aitken - who showed so much promise early on - is wilting under the expert tutelage of the master centre, and Latimore is pretty much just occupying space. Longer term, if we don't ship him, I'd be reinventing Aitken as a backrower. There is no point carrying a back on the bench unless they are a utility - which Aitken isn't - and while our two wingers are rookies they are steadily improving and their deputies don't have a lot more experience to justify dropping either or both of the incumbent wingers. It's apples and oranges. We should have gone after Corey Oates.
Tariq is a shadow of his 2017/18 self and maybe could do with a spell, if Frizzell is fit to play. We'll miss him, but gain nothing from sending him out and risking a long term injury, We have enough of those already.
For what it's worth, my 1-17 would be :
Dufty, Pereira, Lomax, Lafai, Ravalawa, Field, Hunt, Lawrie, Host, Frizzell, Graham, McInnes, Vaughan with a bench of Leilua, Timms, Ford and Robson.

I take your point... But If we don’t have the depth to cover Lats then we might as well give up now.

Taraq Sims to Canterbury cup I guess. Maybe Mary likes playing broken forwards. ...

Same old, same old I'm afraid...
