Going to take decades to be near union

maybe never

wouldn’t swap it around either
Yeah it’s a long project. But getting people to take tests between the big three nations seriously would be a start. After that we need to build the international game so there’s more than three seriously competitive nations.

PNG and Fiji have the most potential. Tonga and Samoa will probably only ever be the level they are now which isn’t bad but they’re not big countries so homegrown players will be few and far between and heritage player loyalty isn’t the most reliable base to build from. Cook Islands will always be also rans, their population is smaller than Yeppoon or Goulburn.

I've never understood why Union and cricket fans only care about internationals with little interest in domestic

And then it's the reverse for league and basketball, fans only care about domestic comps with little interest in internationals.

Soccer is the only sport where fans are equally passionate about both domestic and internationals

Tribalism. It wasn’t long ago a certain GB international was booed a few times playing for his Country and at home, because fans from rival club sides didn’t like him, Wally Lewis got the same in Sydney I remember while playing for Australia. Leave that shit at the door but again another story of RL fans bagging their own, get over it.

Was talking to a Doctor today who lives on the very posh Rose Bay, says a few years ago he jumped ship to the NRL ( supports the Panthers ) as the NRL is more skilful, entertaining .... he's sick of watching the Wallabies loose by 50.

This is echoed through out the comments section of the Rugby paper the SMH, fans no longer watching due to poor results and a sport boged down by unnecessary rules.

It'll be interesting to see how RA not only dig themselves out of 90m dept but win back the fans they are currently haemorrhaging ? Looks like they won't be bailed out with TV money, Stan have said they are disappointed with thier returns and will be offering less for the next TV cycle
Loose Wallabies hey?

We had that with the old tri nations that ran between 2004 - 2006. Those tournaments were full of top quality tests and good crowds and for me personally was the height of my interest in International footy.

They then watered it down with the 4 nations which had a "qualifier" from the northern or southern hemisphere depending on where the tournament was played and interest went down from there.

Can anyone list any ‘Union juniors’ we’ve stolen that weren’t already playing Rugby League?
I think the issue for them is that the league juniors that are poached by union schools end up back playing league when school is done

So Rugby League juniors that they pinched but can’t keep?
Yes! But any league player who ever played a game of rugby is considered a Union developed player.

The Wallabies only need 15 good players to have success, if the Wallabies are performing well it covers over all the other gaps. It will be a battle field at school boy level between the codes over the next few years.

They don’t have the money to compete with nrl clubs

heck if they don’t get that emergency 60 million loan they could actually go into administration
