In the fair dinkum department....If the old man wasn't coaching.....would Kyle be playing NRL? I'm guessing he'd be forced overseas to continue his career. f**ken ordinary footballer and a wanker to boot. Fits in well at the Goons.
Flanno Senior should have / could have put the contract under the Xmas tree for Flanno Junior to open on Xmas morning.
Now if that actually happens, it wouldn’t surprise me.

Hau Tapuha eyes bigger role after signing new deal

Powerhouse prop Tuku Hau Tapuha will remain at the Sharks until at least the end of 2026 after inking a one-year contract extension on Friday.

The 196cm, 114kg forward tallied 10 first-grade matches for eight wins in 2024, providing explosive impact off the interchange with his customary line-bending carries.

Having also played a key role in the Newtown Jets' NSW Cup premiership this year, Hau Tapuha – who turned 23 this month – is eager to continue growing at the Cronulla club.

"I'm grateful the Sharks have instilled that trust in me," he said.

"I enjoy the playing group and the staff from the bottom up. They make it an easy joint to come into and I'm grateful to spend another year here.

"I'd like to thank the coaches, thank my parents and, most of all, thank the man above. You can achieve everything through him and he's the centre of my life."

Sharks General Manager Football Darren Mooney said the club is pleased to have retained Hau Tapuha, who joins the likes of Braydon Trindall, Briton Nikora, Liam Ison, Cameron McInnes and Teig Wilton in re-signing over the off-season.

"Tuku is a valued member of our squad with vast potential," Mooney said.

"We saw glimpses of his ability this year. He's only just turned 23 and is yet to come into his prime as a prop, so we're excited to see the levels he can reach."

Hau Tapuha, who played three games for the Roosters before rekindling his connection with coach Craig Fitzgibbon at the Sharks in early 2023, said his main takeaway from the season just gone was that "you never stop learning, especially about your position".

The Auckland-born front-rower now hopes to have a bigger presence at NRL level.

"I want to play more consistently in that top side," he said.

"The big goal for me is getting a few more minutes. I think I can really showcase what I bring to the team."

Even with a limited role, Hau Tapuha produced 16 tackle breaks in the NRL this year – including seven in a damaging 14-minute stint against the Titans – and crashed over for a crucial try in the Round 10 victory over the Storm.

The Māori All Stars representative also impressed in 15 reserve-grade appearances for the Jets, starting in their thrilling Grand Final victory over the Bears and taking home the Brian 'Chicka' Moore Shield as the best and fairest player throughout the season.

Riccio touched on it a bit on Sharkcast. What do you pay x when you have y behind? Hazleton is likely double the cost of Tuks if not 3 times more(I could see a desperate club throwing a ton at Hazo). The playing gap is no where near that.

Hazleton I still hope is kept and I don't think this means he is on the out. But Tuks is a no brainer to lock in now for his price.

Wilton, McInnes and Tuks is a great gift before christmas. Throw in Trindall, Nikora and Ison it is pretty impressive. If we can lock in Ronnie, Kaufusi, Hazleton and Stonestreet it is an A+ even with losing DA.

Jayden Berrell, Billy Burns, Kade Dykes, Thomas Hazelton, Mawene Hiroti, Oregon Kaufusi, William Kennedy, Ronaldo Mulitalo, Hohepa Puru, Niwhai Puru, Sam Stonestreet, Chris Vea'ila left.

Really pleased Tuks has extended. I’m a big fan of having lots of different shapes in your pack - gives the opposition defence lots to think about, rather than having a pack full of the same body type.
We’ve got 2 giants in Hazo and Tuks, but both are different in how they need to be defended, then we’ve got AFB who’s a freak with footwork, strength and ball playing, then we’ve BHU who’s high impact, then a couple of toilers in Toby/OK, and then Cam as a smaller ball handling workhorse….. That mix up of size and style will be a headache for defences - Brailey should have a great year next year.

Something left of field,
I've noticed that the NRLW players site does not include their big signing, Caitlin Johnstone Green.
She's due to give birth in May, does this mean she's ruled out for the whole season?
I'm suspecting so.

I like how we extend some of these players for a year only, some because they are back up players, and we have more coming through the system.

But also on Cam just the one year, we have seen veteran players all of a sudden hit a wall, and then you are caught carrying a player on medium money doing nothing

Knights offering Hazelton a 3 year deal.

I think it we showed our hand the other week re-signing Tuks first. Hopefully Hazo gets a great deal. Really likeable bloke. At best he is 5th string here (AFB, BHU, Toby and Kaufusi ahead if fit) so should go and chase the starting spot.

You also have Talakai that plays as a middle of bench.
Also another season we may find a young one come through the system as well

Frenzy.

Knights talk for Hazo brings memories of Matt Parsons to me.

I really wouldn’t want to lose Hazo, he brings something different in terms of size and style - makes the defence have to think, and I think there’s still plenty of upside.
I’d actually rather have Hazo than Leo Thompson, who’s just earned an $850k deal with the Doggies, so I’d guess all the clubs that were chasing Thompson will now be throwing silly money at Hazo, and he’s not worth silly money to us given our depth and options in the middles.
I think Hazo and Ronnie are the 2 off contract that are going to benefit from lack of other options on the market in their positions - they’re both pretty much the best available in their positions, and there are some desperate clubs out there with plenty of cap space to offer (Raiders, Knights, Dragons). I think we’ll be priced out of the market for both - I suspect both would take less to stay, but the difference between their best offers from the market compared to what we can offer them will be too big to turn down.

The knights don't seem to have much luck when they poach our players.....Snowden....Jesse and B1 come to mind. I like what Tom brings to the table....but i wouldn't be breaking the bank to keep him.

We also have Jesse Colquhoun coming back from injury, whom I rate a better player than both Hazo and Tuks.
Out of the 3 on a similar level, Hazo, Tuks and JC, JC was signed earlier and on a longer deal than the other two for a reason. Hopefully his injury woes cease so he can truly show his potential.
I like Haze, I also liked Royce and Williams, unfortunately this what happens when a club can bring players up to a good standard that makes other clubs want them.
