In order to boo him you would need to be giving money to the club, something I can't understand people still do.
Because every year I let my membership roll over because I stupidly think that things might be turning around and they might be on the way up, and every year they do someone incredibly stupid like this.

It's a cycle of abuse that I can't break out of.

It’s okay. There is every chance this club will die before we do.

If he went to the Dolphins I wouldn’t boo but going to the soulless money machine?

The merkin deserves to be booed out of the stadium.
We are a soulless machine. Just an inept losing one. The myth about this team and its connections to the town are dead. None of these pricks care.

At least Dom has decided to go and win football games while getting paid more than what’s on offer here

Shouldn’t be booing him because he was offered unders by a bottom 8 club, or 500k by a club challenging for the premiership……the decision literally makes itself

you should be booing the club for extending and upgrading players like Mann and Fitz so we can’t afford to keep players other clubs actually want
Is it unders? He struggles in defence and under the high ball. Is fast and can finish, but is he worth more than say a Brian To’o?

The Roosters are obviously losing one or two of the backs if they have to throw this kind of cash at Dom. They see something in him - I’m just not sure what it is yet.

You don't see what they see in him? Uncoachable quickness, explosive power, ability to break the line and take strong carries. Plays in a squad who's other wingers include Enari Tuala. Robbo will be able to teach how to catch and tackle. AOB can't.

I’m in two minds about this. I’m definitely disappointed to hear that we’ll lose Dom but paying $500K to keep him might have been pushing it. Let’s not forget he still gets caught out defensively more often than not and doesn’t have great hands.

I would have felt that $300K-$400K would have been about right, maybe for 2 years and then look at it again after that and upgrade him if he continues to improve. So in my books $500K is definitely overs at this stage.

Also I know people get upset when a player moves clubs when we as fans feel like the player owes the club something, and I feel like that to some extent but it’s not like Dom has any real ties to Newcastle as a town or as a region, he didn’t grow up here or anything and he wouldn’t have any family or long term connections here that would sway him to stay. This was the first place he came to 3 years ago when he moved over from the UK. So if you’re offered half a mil per year to move 2 hours down the road (and at a more successful organisation) you’d be a madman not to take it.

The bigger issue at hand imo is the way that the salary cap actually works. It was brought in to create a level playing field but the way that third party deals work means that teams essentially have a legal way to cheat it, and the roosters are better at it than anyone else.

Yeah this sucks but I’m not sure if the club had many alternatives, you either get into a bidding war with a club that has access to more money or you stay firm on the offer.

Let’s say the club announced him re-signing this week and the reported number is $500K, I can only imagine the amount of complaining and whinging that would have gone on in this forum with people saying we paid massive overs and that we’ve messed up our cap etc. can’t have it both ways unfortunately.

I think you need a lie down. We’re an unsuccessful football club. As a long time fan it sucks but there’s far worse things in the world.

I’m good tbh. I’m not calling other clubs soulless money machines because they have their shit together. I certainly wouldn’t booo said player either like you said far worse things etc.

Was meant to be a joke. Apologies if it didn’t come across that way.

I think we, as fans tend to be a little melodramatic at times. Thought I might try and lighten the mood abit.

I won’t boo a Knights player. Booing is reserved for shitty ref decisions for me. I don’t even boo the other team unless special circumstances permit it eg the opponent is Manly or Brisbane.

I won't be booing Dom either. Anyone here would have made the exact same choice. More money at a more successful club? Hopefully he can finish the season with 20 plus tries for us.

It's just staggering to imagine that we're operating on the same salary cap looking at the modern squad disparity. How can generation after generation of knights administrators get it so wrong, so often?

I do think Pryce and KPP situation has made things more complicated. I've got no doubt we had the hubris to think one or both would be here this year.
If expected Pryce and KPP that would mean we had money to spend for both in 2023 cap

The average wage for a member of a 30 man squad this year is 381k. Need to stop living in the past about what 500k is.
