No thanks to Mitch Rein, he just doesn't seem to be very creative to me and he expects big money, hence the dragons have withdrawn their offer. And given he didn't like their offer why would he move to a club in a worse position and negotiate with a coach who has openly said he won't pay overs.

Re Mamo at fullback, I'd be happy to keep him there for the time being, he's shown enough upside this year to suggest that after a full offseason learning his trade then he could be a good long term prospect there. He's been a bit of a quiet achiever this year, he started really poorly with a couple of terrible games but has been one of our best for the last 5 or 6 games he's played.

No doubt he would be an upgrade. He's a solid hooker, not a world beater but we can't afford those. Our existing hookers are on L plates.

I read a news article I think from June saying St George Illawarra were looking to lure Hodkinson away from us, part way through his first year of his contract lol.

What would we be paying Levi or Randall? $200k max? Rein isn't $150k better than them, certainly not 250k better.

Brown and Lodge would both walk into this side and would bring aggression and size.

And given we have f**k all cap space, they'd both be cheap. If you think we're going to sign Greg Bird, Matt Scott and Luke Lewis you're terribly mistaken.

The best we can do is sign players in a similar situation as Barnett. A player whom a lot of you were shitting on until recently. Anyone who had seen him play and knows a f**king thing about ruby league knew he was going to perform at this club. Go ahead, shit on Brown and Lodge but they're both young, big, aggressive guys who would only strengthen our forward pack

I have no doubt Brown is underrated, I quite like him. Lodge I am not sold on.

But if we manage to release all those guys you said and only land Brown and Lodge it will be absolutely dire. I know we are up the creek but your result is particularly pessimistic IMO.

BTW I was vocally in support of signing Barnett so don't put me in that category.

I must admit I almost go out of my way to avoid watching the Dragons these days, but I don't mind Rein so much. I think he is a good competitor at the very least, and I have seen him play a few great games(one in the wet earlier this season I think comes to mind?).

Dragons fans on here rubbish him for his lack of vision/creativity. Maybe they are right, but the Dragons structure isn't one that allows attack to flourish. Whether he is part of the problem or just looks bad in that set up I don't know.

Rein doesn't make any sense to me unless Brown has lost a bit of faith in Levi AND Kostjaysn has fallen through. Seems like rubbish to me, but I guess we'll see. Rein is pretty average, if he wants money enough that the Dragons pulled their offer, I can't see us paying big for him.
