Whoever is in charge at the Warriors is a closet Knights fan. When we're linked to someone shit they happily take them off our hands.

Seems to be enough money at other clubs to keep the player market buzzing.

I was under the assumption many clubs would need to offload players due to cap issues???

And Maguire just got the boot from the bunnies. Wonder if Gags is regretting his decision yet

Considering how poor Souths have been he's probably secretly grateful IMO. I reckon they would have just continued to slide next year...still might but at least there's the possibly things might turn around with a new coach.

He's doing what he did in the 20's back in 2014. Bends the line or breaks it every time he gets the ball on the right edge. It's amazing how quickly he's turned it around too.

What he has also done is also get the errors and dumb penalties out of his game, which was what concerned me about his performances...he has always shown ability but he was much more rocks than diamonds at the start of this season.

To me, it epitomises the positive influence Brown is having on this young squad...I am really looking forward to see how much growth he can get in the 2018 squad. Even with a full pre-season, I expect it will take some time again to get the new players embedded, build combinations, etc. but I expect that we should win more games than we lose from rounds 11 through 26 next year...our challenge will be to do that earlier to get us in a position to be in contention to sneak into the top 8 next year

Lachlan Fitzgibbon re-signs

The nib Newcastle Knights are pleased to confirm Lachlan Fitzgibbon has signed a two-year contract extension with the Club.

A South Newcastle junior, Fitzgibbon made his NRL debut late in the 2015 season.

The 23-year-old forward played five matches in 2016, before playing 14 matches and scoring eight tries in first grade this year.

“I have grown up in Newcastle and I love everything about the town,” Fitzgibbon said.

“I am starting to feel like I am playing some alright footy and hopefully over the next couple of years, I can play some more.”

There is no doubt Fitzgibbon deserves his two-year contract extension.

“Lachlan works hard on and off the field and that is important as we continue to build our squad for next season and beyond,” CEO Matt Gidley said this week.

“We look forward to seeing him in the red and blue for at least the next two years.”

With Fitzgibbon’s re-signing confirmed, the Club continues to build a strong squad for next season and beyond.

“We have a good, young core group that has been around the Club for a while now and hopefully starting to develop as a good team over next the few years and with the new recruits coming, it should put us in good stead,” Fitzgibbon added.

“I love playing for the Knights and I love the supporters…. they are probably the best in the comp, so I want to stay here as long as I can and I want the Club to be as successful as we can be.”

He was looking like a Josh Perry level plodder when he started, but he has really turned it around...

I dont know if he has picked up some speed, improved his angle running or what he has done, but he seems to be challenging the line every time he isnt breaking it.

Whoever takes over at Souths is definitely getting a squad capable of finals footy. A couple of changes to the squad and there are no excuses.
