I guess we will find out the answer in due course. If we don't sign one of the decent young halves on the market, it would be a lost opportunity in my opinion.

Brown is unlikely to want to sign two or three new halves when we already have three or four including one highly paid reserve grader. It's probably Cronk OR someone else, but not both. And that means we will be pursuing Cronk until he tells us not to.

My feeling is that this is another futile chase. He will probably retire. I'm fine with that as long as the backup plans are solid, but the way the Tigers have made their moves so quickly is concerning. I don't want "Cronk to Knights" to become a circus like Bird did.

Given its been highly publicised what we've been through on the recruitment front this year I will be really pissed if Cronk strings us along for a few months then retires.

I've got great respect for Cooper and he seems to be an upstanding guy with a sense of integrity so I have an expectation that if he's talking to Brown then he actually is considering coming here. But if this drags out over a period of time and he retires and then we miss out on other signings because of it then I'll lose that respect for him.

That being said it's also the responsibility of Brown and Mooney to be thinking about that possibility as well and making sure that we have an active plan B, C & D in place in the likely event that Cronk doesn't sign with us.

He's not talking to anyone, or stringing them along.

It’s not about where I want to play, it’s about do I want to play. I don’t want to disrespect other clubs by walking down that path then coming to the decision that I don’t want to play. The first decision for me is do I want to play. If the market shuts down and time goes by and my decision is made for me that’s fine, I’ve had a pretty lucky career up until now and whatever comes next is a positive.

It's a bit like the situation with Graham or Connor Watson, the club can say they are targeting these players but the reality is they may not actually be available.

He said he won't make a decision until after Origin finishes, so maybe to save our brains, let's stop speculating every day until then and have some faith in Mooney, Brown and Gids and the team.

My point is not about the cap, it's about timing. If we wait until Cronk makes a decision, we might find other halves have already sorted out their futures. Look how fast the market has been moving lately. After Origin is a long time away.

I'm not convinced we will be making offers and getting a deal done with any half until we know where we stand with Cronk. If I'm wrong, great. I want to be wrong.

Yes it's been reported everywhere that he's signed with Souths, Roosters and Storm. I believe them.

Interviewed on the Big Sports Breakfast this morning and he is still talking up this year and his focus on turning the season around but he is fairly non-committal on his future and whether Hodko is getting a run in this weeks game

Can't be too worried if they have given him ridiculous money, Im pleased if we dont match it.

I will be absolutely gutted if Gags leaves, the guy has stuck around during the toughest period in the club's existence and has been extremely loyal not to mention he's arguably our best player.

I really hope that Brown hasn't low-balled him on the offer. I get that he doesn't want to pay overs but we can't expect an elite player to stay at a losing club for under what he's worth on the open market. Besides what else are we going to spend that salary cap space on right now when no-one else wants to come here? Not to mention that losing our best player is going to make us an even harder sell to good players than we already are.

I've been very patient with Brown and Mooney since they started this rebuild operation but if they let Gags go I think that the fan base should be asking some serious questions about how this fits into the grand plan.

I think Gagai is a must keep. We can't afford to lose him. It's not as if we don't have the space to make him atleast a competitive offer.

Just thinking, it will likely have a clear impact on Cronk if Gaigai stays or goes from the Knights and also on Gaigai if Cronk comes...wonder what sort of conversations may do the rounds of the Qld dressing rooms if Gaigai gets picked - although I'd assume Cronk would have already made a call to Dane if he is contemplating a Newcastle offer.

I hear what you are saying and questions will be asked if he goes...but it might also end up out of their control if Dane decides that it is about his realistic opportunity to win a premiership in his career. And if that is where offers to leave present an attractive option for him to weigh up, it may well not come down to money, even if we have to offer overs for him

The word is Souths and I dont see a premiership window opening up any time soon for them. And they are almost as on the nose as us.

I can cop us missing the boat on every player out there whilst the tigers sign 5 or 6 good players in 2 weeks. But losing our only bona fide elite player sends a terrible message to any prospect thinking of coming here.

Barry Toohey is a pretty good barometer on this stuff and 2 weeks ago he was putting the house on him staying. A few days ago he was wavering and now he has gone dead quiet since the Souths thing came up. Not good.
