Whats Milford actually done to deserve all the hype? I'd be happy with a one year deal but talk of a new three year deal is crazy.

I hate the idea of a bidding war for Milf. He is the exact same type of mentally fragile player that so often fails here. Can easily see the scenario where the Knights go broke trying to keep him only to turn around next year and have fans wondering what the pay out will look like to get him off the books for the next available half.

I’m torn on where I value Milf.

He’s still only 27 and should be entering his prime playmaking years. He’s easily our most skilled half right now and you’re not watching properly if you don’t think he’s providing us opportunities to score or apply pressure to teams, more so than our other halves. He’s not ideally what we need but he offers a threat. We’ve seen teases of him and Ponga combining and obviously that’s off the back off a few training sessions together. Something tells me it could be a great duel threat. But that’s a lot of hope they apply themselves to the best of their ability and the rest of the team is well coached around them

I think ideally you’d take him on a 1-year deal but I don’t think he’ll hang around for that and it might be too much to compete against the Dolphins.

So yeah, what’s the line for me I don’t know? I don’t think I’d like a 3-year 800k deal. I think I’d be ok with 2-year 600k possibly. I don’t know what the rate is though.

Something I loved seeing from Milf last game was giving the ball to Dom early for his try. Give our backs time to do their thing, we hardly do it for such a talented backline.
Milf is our best option at the moment. Will someone better become available? Who knows. And I would say if we get Milf any (slim) chance we had going for Munster is gone.

Milf has never been super consistent so that is my worry.
Yes he's miles aheaad of other options within the club, but overcommitting to him just because he isn't Crossland is a recipe for disaster. 2 yr max imo and cannot break 600k which is probably not a deal he takes.

I guess you could take into account it looks like we’ll be offloading Clifford too. So that should free up around half of could go to Milf maybe?

Who people would rather keep out of those two might be a more interesting conversation.

I like Clifford but I’m pretty disappointed he’s failed to kick on - whatever the reason may be. Milf does have more tricks up his sleeve and has big game experience.

Happy the club is making decisions here and not me, that’s for sure.

Making fun of Clifford at the Cowboys was almost like a second job for me (many Cowboys supporters as mates) and I had to tuck the tail between the legs and retreat when we signed him.
First few games I thought maybe he's good and the Cowboys were just trash (which they were tbf) since he looked alright.
Since then he's more or less been Cowboys Clifford. I think he's just a mentally fragile flat tracker and will play exactly at the level of the team around him.
As we're a terrible team, he is also terrible.

Right now it's a no contest between him and Milf. Still doesn't mean I want to make Milford a top paid half.

No brainer, Milford for 2yrs plus our option, as said earlier 27y/o, should be in his prime, nothing else available, Crossland no good, Clifford fragile, Ponga wants to stay f/b. If Money in bank at least match Dolphins otherwise next season will be “”””IF ONLY””””

What's the point of money in the bank? We want it spent on players. If we are going to overspend somewhere in the squad it should be the spine. Surely he isn't asking for more than 600k or 700k a season? Would be bonkers to let him go.

Overspending on players not worth the $ is folly though mate, especially if we are talking multi year deals

Id rather us hold onto cash and spend it when quality players come along

Hold onto the cash? Lose more games because we have to field reserve graders week in week out? We literally can't fill our 30 man roster at the moment. You want that to go down to 25 players only or something? Our club isn't struggling financially. We should want out owners to splash the cash.

Ok let’s withdraw from Milford offer, he goes to Dolphins we look elsewhere and consider our options.
Move Ponga to 6 or 7, find a full back but still need a 6 or 7
Keep Clifford at 6 or 7, find a f/b
Hope Clune suddenly develops beyond current ability
Consider offering huge money to obtain Pryce release for 2023 and hope he can handle NRL
OR , go with Clune and Clifford, resign Crossland to back up along with Mann.
I feel so much more confident of a great 2023 with all those wonderful options that will no doubt guarantee success, go the Knights in 2023, at last success

Whilst signing Milford for 3 years probably doesn’t fill everyone with confidence he’s probably the best option that’s available at the moment and at least he’s already at the club. I would expect him to improve after another offseason with the team and time to get in better shape from a proper training regime. Good halves are very hard to find and while he’s not an organiser he’s got X-factor in his game which we’re sorely lacking. I’d be ok with keeping him as long as we don’t go nuts and pay crazy money.

Yes as much as I don’t like being in a bidding war which wouldn’t otherwise exist if not a for an expansion club coming in.

I think if you name the better halves out there that are “worth waiting for” (and they don’t grow on trees)…they would be Buckley’s chance of coming here.

Milford is not reliably top tier, but he’s tiers better than our current alternatives, unless we move Ponga to 7 or something. And we don’t have any junior halves coming through.

I wouldn’t want him to have to shoulder the whole load himself. But with a couple of other talented guys in the spine (albeit none of them chiefs), maybe it could work.

I could live with it either way if we sign him or not. Assuming we don’t pay him top $. But if we miss, I don’t see anyone much better on the horizon in our current state.
