Rumoured Targets 3

I'm sure we can figure something out. Apparently, Brodie Jones is free to leave ASAP? Saw it somewhere. Hopefully we are looking to make it work at least.
Yeah saw that too. Isn’t he on a 1 year deal? So seems like maybe they’re trying to get someone for this year by letting him go early?

33 isn't what it once was with improved training/recovery etc, but it all depends on the individual. At 33 Adam Reynolds looked like he couldn't walk most of the time whereas someone like Ruben Wiki looked like he could have played until 50.

Not sure where Barnett lands on that scale but 177 games isn't a whole lot of miles for that age.

O’Sullivan won’t be rushing into this one. I am sure he has a big view of Barney but the current signing trajectory suggests he is not spending big dollars on potential injury magnets.

If Leo Thompson is worth 800K how much is SOO/Aust rep Barny worth?
Different stages of their career though tbf. Although I do think Leo’s value was inflated by media hype. I doubt Barnett is on $800K at the Warriors anyway, and given he’s moving for family reasons I doubt he’ll be demanding a bigger deal than he’s already on.

Broncos aren’t going to go crazy with the offer. Unless we low ball Barney I still like our chances of landing him. His leaving was a shock cos he bled this jumper. It always felt off and almost out of nowhere. He did an interview with Barry the year before he left and he sounded very reluctant and almost it was forced upon him. Just my take.

The Broncos have a lot of guys who will want upgrades and even without Haas next year have one of the best packs in the league so I doubt they’d be offering way more than anyone else.

Given his main priority is to be near family I don’t think he’d be wanting himself to be at the centre of a bidding war, he also doesn’t strike me as that sort of character tbh. If our offer is somewhere in the same ball park as some of the other teams in the running I’d say we’ve got the inside track.

Of course the fact that we’re not a successful club at the moment could play a part but is he looking to win a comp or be close to Taree? Surely being at Newcastle and being able to go back to Taree pretty much whenever he wants would be a big draw card.

Further to that, I do feel like if we add Barnett to our team we start to look a lot more like a top 8 team given some of the talent we’ve already got in the side. The main issue is not having a real forward leader but he would be that piece of the puzzle.

Further to all that. The Warriors want a replacement player swapped for Barnett. So even if he wants to sign with us we have to offer them a player in return. Not sure who we’ve got that they would want. Also it’s got to be a player who actually wants to leave for another opportunity.

We released him on compassionate grounds with no compensation, only fair they give him back on the same basis.

Also a bit harder for the Warriors to play hard ball when the release has already been granted and everyone knows it lol.

That's what I was thinking too. If a club came to the Warriors and said: "Hey, we're in need of a forward, and you've got Barnett who is nearing the end of his career. Could we have him?" Fair call to the Warriors to ask for a player in return.

But Barney's asked them for a release on compassionate grounds, to which they've granted. Now he's starting to look at the offers clubs are starting to make at him.

The Warriors aren't really in a position to legitimately request / demand a player swap.

Give them Ponga

we get Barnett and a bucket load of spare salary cap space to sign a proper halfback
getting rid of the best player in the roster and arguably the sole shinning light in a very average decade maybe not a great idea. You need X factor like Ponga to win Premierships

Where is this elite half back you speak of? We have Brown + Sharpe which could possibly develop into one of the best long term halves pairings in the comp over the next few seasons.

The focus is developing some real mongrel in the engine room.

I did see he requested a release from ESL.
Didn’t even think about about him coming here.
I guess he’s an experienced forward, which we need.
