Rodney Mason could easily be ready for firstgrade next year.

Bennett is bringing the best training staff in the game with him, and Tinkler will see that no expense is spared to give our squad the best possible pre-season.

Mason is improving rapidly anyway, and a full time pre season of the best possible training could see him well and truely ready. Same goes for guys like Cook and Tetevano.

If we were still penny pinching like last pre-season I'd say it would be a big ask to get any of the young players ready for firstgrade, but Bennett will actually expect to get them up to firstgrade standard.

i dunno what bennett's thinking but he used costigan at prop and that worked well, next year in the backrow we have at least taia, houston and edwards.

i want edwards to stay at lock but if were resigning hilder and have gidley and possibly buderus at hooker, where does hilder play so edwards might be moved back into props. wouldn't like bedsy and hilder on the bench.

im not saying sims and mason r ready now but this time next year maybe, at least for a debut and taste of fg in origin period, ready for '13.

i reckon we can do better and deserve better than gibbs and fulton.

They won't both be on the bench. One will be hooker and the other will interchange with him. Gidley to hooker is a myth we started, theres no indication to my knowledge that Bennett has any plans to play him there. Gidley will play 6 or 7.

There's no indication that Bennett will do anything. Anything any of us says at the moment is conjecture. Gidley at hooker is a theory that a lot of people outside of this forum have voiced as well because with the release of De Gois and the likely signing of Boyd it makes a lot of sense.

People assume Bennett is going to coach and structure us exactly the same way that he does the Dragons, using Gidley like he does Hornby for example, and I don't necessarily think that will be the case. We play with a bit more risk than the Dragons and are prepared to run the ball from our own half. Bennett has said in the past that he likes the way we play, and when he comes here he may just decide to expand on that mentality but tweak it with the Bennett discipline and ball control, rather than try and turn us into a 100% Dragons clone.

There is so much that can happen between now and Round 1 2012 in terms of player movements, injuries and form (Henry) that I wouldn't rule anything out.

Unless you have been talking to Wayne yourself Gidley in the halves is still a myth as well, and as much chance of happening has hooker is.

Who are you to bag someone elses theory and then sprout your own theory as fact? Pull your head in.

I just think that, after shedding 2 props (hopefully tolar gets a tap and becomes a third) and one backrower we need more depth there. The young guys might turn up ready (i think roop said Mason is close) but it is very risky relying on them the second one prop goes down (we cant be sure any of them will make the grade). If we don't sign any props and shift Eddie and Costigan, all of a sudden we are left with taia/hilder/housten in the back row..... and thats it.

As i said im not a big Gibbs/Fulton fan, but we need something

I'd prefer someone like Jon Green than Bryce Gibbs, would cost half as much and doesn't have the dickhead factor

Never said it was a fact mate. Don't see why we'd be linked to Buderus if our current best player, who plays 80 mins was getting moved to hooker.

I personally would like to see him have a go at hooker but given Bennett also said prior to the all stars game he like Gidley in the halves, we're trying to sign a hooker I just think what I stated earlier is more likely.

Ahh...but you didn't say "likely". You said "will".

Gidley could start at hooker and then move to lock in a Luke Lewis-type role when Buderus comes on. Buderus is not an 80 minute player anymore and Hilder isn't a hooker.

Fulton I do not want. Gibbs could be a good signing, but if it means we have to take Fulton as well then no thanks.

Pedantic much? No one has said Gidley "will" be hooker on this forum in the past 6 weeks?

Anyway back to the topic, I agree Bedsy can't go 80 and Hilder ain't a hooker. My point is I'm not sure Wayne does given Dean Young is a lock and Nathan Fien was a half. I think he'll start Hilder then inject Bedsy after 20 or so.

Gibbs has nothing going for him. He doesn't rack up huge metres for a prop, he's workrate is average, he doesn't promote second phase play through offloads and when he decides to get aggressive on the field he gets his ass knocked out or gives away stupid penalties. I guess working under Bennett he might improve but you could say that about any average player.

.

Gidley wearing 9 makes sense to me but it doesn't mean he would play a traditional Hooker role. I'd expect he'd still be much of a "rover" and go into dummy half at times but alternate at dummy half with Hilder (if he stays) or Buderus (if we get him) or maybe even both. That gives is the added option of being able to rest the "other" Hooker and bring on bench impact if we need to.
If he goes to one of the halves I'd expect him to be expected to play a much more traditional half role which doesn't really suit his style of play. It might be about time that he learns how to play a specific role and he might be able to under Bennett but I'd much rather see us have 2 already specialised halves.

I watched Bedsy play last week and he seemed match fit. A lot of difference in the style and pace of game played though - he only needed to wander up to dummy half.
What concerns me about Bedsy is that he has, apparently, had a lot of injuries over the last 2 seasons. Often, the more injuries you get the more prone you are to more injuries. If we get him we might end up seeing him sit out a few games or more.

Any one know who Weidler is referring to in this mornings paper? Says the Knights are chasing a Dragons forward, is it just Jon Green or Adam Cuthbertson or someone new?

Yeah i'd love to have Cuthbertson, the change he's gone through since being at the Dragons is pretty amazing. Also a very good sign for things to come over the next 4 years.

It has been reported previously that Jon Green was planning to follow Bennett to the Knights. By all reports, he is highly rated by both Bennett and the Dragons supporters. On the Dragons forum about a month or two ago they were saying that Green was already gone, with the Knights the likely destination.
