I don't have the will to go through all clubs and their incidents and see how we compare. My guess is we're about average but I don't know. But my feeling is we are not in a crisis or need to draw new lines and make examples of people. I think that's usually an emotional reaction and mostly unnecessary and sometimes it's even plain counterproductive.
Fair enough. I just think we should aim to be better than ‘the average’ in relation to all aspects of the club, including off field behaviour. Perhaps even be the example other clubs aspire to.

You can’t expect players to maintain standards on the field, if the same merkins responsible for ensuring those standards take a Laissez Faire approach off it.

At the very least the club should impose an alcohol ban on him.
Not only for the club’s sake, but seemingly his own as well.

If he decides that’s it’s more important for him to have a few drinks rather than play First Grade footy, then he gets the boot.
Yeah I’ve come around to this and IALBs way of thinking. He can have BOD for not telling club of this incident but if so IMO his ongoing employment is determined by behaviour, not just individual incidents

What I meant was that he tried to hide it from the club, on two distinct occasions.

That's pretty poor form, I reckon...
What exactly did he hide in this latest incident?

Should a player tell the club when they get a speeding ticket, run a red light, get cautioned by the police for talking on their phone while driving? All of these are dealt with by law enforcement and the courts more severely than Peni was in this case (and I am not justifying his actual behaviour).

The simple answer is obviously yes.

The reason? Because if it gets out in the media the integrity unit gets involved and brings shame on your club whether it is an actual issue or not!

So better to be safe than sorry. It sucks but that is the environment we live in now as a sports person.

I think Gronk's viewpoint here is inconsistent. I think it's very consistent with his outlook on life.

Look at it this way - Gronk has basically said, "It's not Peni's fault. He's a victim of his biology!"

And that's the leftoid way - blame the Universe and dismiss any talk of self-control or responsibility.

Unless, of course, we're talking about gender. Then biology can be damned. There are as many genders as we want there to be to ensure our victimhood.

Yeah I never said that. Hindy111 came up with the same comment after failing to actually read what I posted.

I was always talking about the NRL cohort and not the individual player - Peni. All I said was that elite sportsmen like NRL players are risk takers generally, so don't expect this crap to go away. Yes they should have more self control, no I don't endorse it or fob it off as not their fault.

Genders, victimhood, leftoid. FMD stop being a douche.

Laissez Faire
A most underused phrase in the context of the NRL.

Given Peni was sh*t faced and unconscious maybe word got to Bernie before he had a chance to call. I wouldnt call or even think to call until ive slept it off. Bernie might have even woke him with a call to "please explain?"
Seek first to understand.
It certainly dosent condone Peni's actions and desperation to keep drinking but it may well explain his not making contact. The media works very quickly now days.

Absolutely, yes.

He has history of being a dick while on the piss.

I would hope that the coaching staff, and board members, do not want a pork chop carrying on like an arsehole, while representing the club, and I would certainly expect there to be a self-reporting policy.

If I was on the coaching staff, or a board member, I'd be pretty annoyed by someone doing stupid shit, while drunk, and hiding it.

I was out after work one day, wearing my uniform (after working that day), and got an RBT (I never drink, so I passed).

I was expected to self-report this to my boss, because I was unofficially representing my company.

Granted, Terepo was not representing Parramatta in an official capacity; but being of a much, much higher profile than me, I would expect him to have the decency to front up, and admit he made a mistake.

Instead, he chose to cower away.

See this is a sensible reaction, if the guy's got issues when he's on the piss, then responsibility begins with recognising that as a problem and dealing with it.

I don't see how sacking him and essentially ruining his life ( or the alternative being another club just picks him up at a discount ) helps anyone, or changes anything.

The guys a human being, not an angel, and it's simply unrealistic to expect that people won't f**k up, and some will f**k up more than others. This instance on it's own is pretty f**king minor, and I don't accept that combined with an incident a year ago that it establishes a real pattern of poor behaviour, when also considering the guy has been with us 10 years or so and for all we know been a clean skin. ( we don't have any evidence to the contrary )

Out of curiosity - do you extend the same courtesy to Ben Barba?

He, too, is only human, and bound to f**k up...

My point is that Terepo has had trouble with getting drunk, and acting like an idiot, and while we should always seek to rehabilitate where possible, we are running a football club, not a charity - and having players walk around like that is a massive liability to your brand.
