With a new club hitting the market and needing some names to build a fan base, how much would you have paid for Rheed prior to Nov 1, so that he didn’t test the market ?
Merkins know there's a new club in 2023 that's going to need thirty top 30 players. Did they think the players were all going to come from reserve grade or the UK. The mechanism for transferring these thirty players will be the player market. Every club should suffer a net loss of 1.875 players. Some of these will come from clubs' top 17s, and this should be more likely from clubs that are strong at the bottom of the top 17.
Long story short, every club should be weaker
on average in 2023 to accommodate the Dolphins. Obviously some clubs will be weaker than others, and the salary cap should take the lion's share of talent from the top clubs. We know that isn't how the cap works in practice, but the Panthers have already lost one of their top players for 2023 along with the ones they lost for 2022. The fact we didn't win the comp shouldn't make us immune. Will the Storm and Souths keep all their off contract players? How about Manly and the Chooks?
