We should let Sivo/Blake go this year I reckon….I like both players at their best, but they rarely produce enough…Sivo is always dominated in the ruck (thus isn’t worth $500k) while Blake just doesn’t work hard enough on the wing plus those errors….

If Dunster produces his late 2021 form, he will be very good. And there is enough options for the other wing between, Cini, Russell, SL, MK (Russell looks a smart player/Cini has good Post contact metres) at this stage…while I like what Simonson did at centre…

plus we could recruit…
I think you will find that we will retain Sivo. Blake will go and we will go to the market for a centre. Even though he isn’t my favourite I’d give Simonsson a go at centre. I still think Zac Lomax needs a change and I’d give him $750k to come over.

They also have a back 3 that do most do their work each and every week. While we have a couple of lazy slugs bludging out there on the wing.
The point is fatigue doesn’t build up over the season. It builds over 80 minutes, which is a separate issue, but by the next game the players are ready to go again. The exception seems to be the week after playing in hot weather, which is why it’s a winter sport

Well we weren’t gassed in Townsville or any of the previous games.
You really think so? Or that it's not a cumuluative effect - which actually also supports/aligns with Gould's statement about the impact the week after?

The bench strategy got us through to the final game of the season, but we were gassed by the time we ran out for kick-off. So an alternate coaching strategy (or tweaks to the strategy) should be up for consideration if the club wants a better outcome.

Considerations which your post-hoc parrotting or hero worshipping of paid pundits (who get as much wrong as they might get right) will not contribute anything useful toward in discussion.

Or maybe Gould was as usual just stating the very obvious... and only mentioning the final straw that broke the camel's back.

Come grand final time our forwards were gassed through lack of preventative measures, and you know it.

In my opinion, we were gassed after 5 minutes because we simply don't know how to compete with that sort of intensity for long periods of time. The Panthers have fine-tuned that art over the last 4 years, or so.

I thought we competed well for the first 5 minutes, and then Penrith lifted a notch, and we couldn't keep up.

I think our team are fit; we need to work on playing at high intensity for longer periods of time.

That's a very poor assessment of the facts. The same strategy that got us home late against the Cowboys was the wrong strategy a week later? More likely is we were just up against a better team.

My parroting might be post-hoc but his prediction wasn't. I remember being surprised when he said it. If it came from a less knowledgeable pundit than Gould, I would've told them they were wrong. But everything turned out as he predicted. I'm more inclined to think he knows what he's talking about than that he doesn't. But by all means continue to only accept stuff that matches your preconceptions.

We need to control the ball. As soon as we fail to do that for a few consecutive sets we're done.

Their defensive edge.

I think their defensive strength comes from a lightweight pack full of toilers and two strong defensive halves. That's been Melbourne's strategy over the years as well.

I expect Ciraldo learnt a thing or 2 while he was there and one of his first big acts is to steal the panthers wrestling coaches. They attack in defence like no other team.

I don’t think it would have mattered for that game. Even if we controlled the ball they were still making metres at will while we struggled to get out of our 30m zone. Even if we held the ball we were still done because they were playing too fast and we had no answers.

Yes, strategies should change week to week, based on changing circumstances and the strengths and weaknesses of opponents.

It's amazing... senile league pundit predicts team who are raging long shots will lose game! Just everry pretty much every other person in the media and this forum... but keep on post-hoc hero-worship quoting any authority figure you can cling to when flaws your simplified posts are highlighted and questioned.
