Yep I've given up on the Knights sacking him this year.

They've made too many moves around him to not give him that chance next year.

I feel I'm repeating from what I said 12 months ago but next year is the do or die year for AOB.

His roster building in the next 18 months will tell us whether he stays or goes.

Probably upgrading his contract as we speak. Gardener strikes me as an "I'm never wrong" kind of guy.

He keeps saying it in those long winded Woah is me press conferences. “We have a lot of work to do as a group and it’s going to take a lot of time, unfortunately”. That’s the message he is saying to the club and it’s obviously working with Gardner because he’s not a football person and is fooled by cliches which wouldn’t work in his main gig.

Last weeks “I’ll keep drilling it into them and hopefully one day we will wake up and it’ll work” will only work for so long. He won’t be coach this time next season.

This sounds about right.
It doesn’t really encourage us as fans does it. Mann upgrades etc. if he does actually get to the point where he does change the side’s roster up a fair bit and then gets shown the door we simply go back to square 1. A new coach with a roster he did not create in an environment where contracts are really given away to the undeserving a lot of the time.

Looks like Peter Parr is the saviour.
He ain’t going to affect the teams structures, but I’m glad he’s here next week to pay attention to how we operate and play. Really is do or die for AOB next year.

Be interested to see if Parr hires anyone to assist this off-season too.

I don't know anything about the Parr but his CV looks exciting to say the least.

If he doesn't fire AOB immediately, I hope he finds two experienced and quality assistant managers quickly.

Is anyone on here have any insider info on what's going on at the club or are we literally all just fans?

Parr has been with the cowboys for around 20 years serving across nearly every managerial and executive role in the club so it's not an exaggeration to say he is probably the guy who's most responsible for building that club after their formative years and the Tim Sheens debacle. Also has been overseeing the elite junior pathways for NSWRL so will help fill the void left by Brennan's departure

Does anyone think that the reason O'Brien only has inexperienced assistants is because Gardner wont spend the money to get a decent assistant, so we are going with the inexperienced assistants as they are all we can afford.

If Gardner is looking at running the club like a business, that could explain it. Thats something Parr would correct that if its the case

Just a thought

Being an incredibly inexperienced head coach (as in zero experience at any level) I'd say it's far more likely AOB chooses his assistants on the basis of not threatening his own job.

The way Gardner worded his press release it sounds like Parr essentially runs the club operationally with the exception being Gardner has final approval. We are seeing the difference between having financial clout and none at all like the old days. It is A very smart move by Phil.

I don’t think that at all.

Gardner has splashed cash where he deems necessary so far.

Centre of excellence
Brought Joey back and brought Hayden Knowles in who has reputation of best in the business.

Peter Parr now.

if you can justify it to Gardner I think he will pay if he agrees it will help.

How Michael Dobson was chosen is unknown to me but I would like to know. Did AOB pluck him out of thin air? Was it nepotism with someone having ties to when Dobson was here? Really won’t know.

Gardner went and poached the best conditioning chief in Hayden Knowles & now Peter Parr who's been highly regarded for the better part of 2 decades. Also paid Millie Boyle & Tamika Upton the 2 biggest marquee contracts in the NRLW so far, which is off the cap and out of Wests' own pocket. That's all in the past 9 or so months.

He clearly wants to win and is willing to spend to do so. Getting Parr is a sign that he knows whoever is calling the shots at the moment isn't up to it, whether that's himself, AOB, Buderus, or all 3. You'd like it to have happened sooner, but I think it's a step in the right direction at least.

I'll also point out again that Nathan Brown being let go came out of nowhere. Not even Toohey had been writing or hinting about it, it was just randomly announced one afternoon. This is to say I don't think AOB is as safe as it might appear.

If Parr’s first task is to hold some sort of inquiry or audit of the club, I think that shows there is pressure on AOB.

I also don’t think that AOB signs assistants based on his own insecurities or cronyism. He’s a product of Melbourne and the roosters who have a track record of hiring young assistants and developing them into quality coaches. The only difference is, he isn’t a Bellamy or Robinson.

Parr probably has a lot on his plate right now so doubt he'll fire AOB off the bat but surely he is building a list of replacements and getting a support structure system in place so whoever the new guy is, he has every chance of success.

It wouldn’t be in Parr’s favor to immediately fire AOB. You’d want him to do his due diligence while here and pinpoint the problem/s. So I wouldn’t expect anything too soon other than perhaps an aquistion to further help the team along this off-season.

I would not be surprised if our next coach is someone we never even considered a realistic target. Parr would have that sort of reach. The money Gardner is out laying demands respect and more importantly success. Of course Parr may be patient with O’Brien first.
