A genuine question from outside....i'm sure it's been brought up often but ...what's the feeling about Johns coaching with the right assistants around him to run the nuts and bolts side of things?....he seems to have the answers to everything so would his experience..knowledge and aura hold a big enough whip to get things straightened out? Yes / No / F UK NO! ?
I don't really feel like Joey has ever proven he can coach. The main reason I personally liked the idea of having him around the club at all is to inspire/have a more mentoring influence on the team.

Clearly none of that has gotten through.

The biggest problem with johns being coach is he has zero track record of success as coach

he was parra halves coach for a bit where they were struggling, as soon as he left, they become gf contenders and since he has been here we have arguably gone backwards

AOB is a dead set joke, the team has very little mongrel and Connor's words prove there is no impetus to be better cause the coach has lost the group. I didn't watch a game from July last year, I get the feeling it will be a lot earlier this year to maintain my sanity

Rohan Smith coached Leeds to victory over St Helens this morning. So it is pretty much a given other NRL clubs are taking notes.

i think when deciding on a coach, as that is what we should be doing right now, we need to know what it is that we are actually after eg short term success, long term success and setting standards to follow for the future

I think we need to get a coach who will set the standards, has no problems dropping players who don't meet standards or perform and can attract players.

For me that is Flanagan. I know some here don't like him cause of his past.

I couldn't care less if he is bending the rules under the salary cap as every other club does, not just the Roosters. The only thing I'm against is any form of drug cheating

Flanagan - has won a comp, so players will be willing to play under a proven coach and should actually listen to what he is trying to get them to do. Flanagan is also very big on defense which we definitely need to focus on. He has a strong enough personality to turn this club around

John Morris - great coach and got Cronulla to perform above their potential. Definitely could identify junior talent and bring them through, just not sure if our pathways to first grade are in a good enough state to benefit from Morris' ability. But my biggest concern is, is he a strong enough personality to do what's needed to turn this club around

One thing is for certain O'Brien isn't the coach we need or want

If AOB gets sacked, which NRL side would be jumping to sign him? Not a single team. We have the worst coach in the game. Get rid and upgrade already.

Has anyone asked Ponga?

I digress, for me you need Hasler. You need a hard arse.

I have much time for Morris.

Morris is the perfect choice, but Gardner is in fantasyland. Hopefully Parr has the balls to fulfill his appointed position.

John Morris had a couple of years where he managed to squeeze a fair bit out of the sharks when they weren’t in a good spot. He didn’t really do anything astounding but his reputation for developing players is probably where his strength lies, not the worst thing for our club obviously.

I think we need to aim higher personally, given that Morris doesn’t have any real pedigree based on his actual results but we could definitely do a lot worse.

Hard to disagree

The Tackle NRL: Newcastle coach Adam O’Brien under pressure after round 1 loss to the Warriors

Forget about Kalyn Ponga and the HIA furore – Newcastle coach Adam O’Brien has much bigger concerns. Paul Crawley runs the rule over the NRL’s most under-pressure coaches.

Adam O’Brien should be more concerned about getting the Newcastle Knights to win football games than complaining about independent doctors.
O’Brien goes into Round 2 as the NRL coach under the most pressure to save his job, although Anthony Griffin could be saying “Hold my beer, Adam” as the Dragons play their first game against the Titans next weekend after a Round 1 bye.
While O’Brien is under the pump already, it’s a different story for the likes of Manly’s Anthony Seibold and Brisbane’s Kevin Walters who step into round 2 full of confidence after releasing the pressure valve with encouraging wins.

For all the fallout surrounding Kalyn Ponga being taken from the field for a head injury assessment, and other similar incidents over the weekend, the fact is under pressure coaches will always find a way to spin the narrative, and winning coaches get on with life.
And it’s the Knights players and their coach who need to take ownership of the fact that still had plenty of chances to win that game but were ultimately rolled by a Warriors outfit many have tipped to finish down near the bottom of the ladder this year.

Newcastle Knights coach Adam O'Brien is finding himself under early pressure.
O’Brien is now in his fourth season in charge at Newcastle, while the unheralded Andrew Webster is in his first.
Yet you could clearly see that the Warriors were playing with new found enthusiasm that is a really positive sign for their fans going forward.

Looks like AOB is as good as gone now. Great news. Hopefully the only reason we didn't fire AOB last season was because we didn't have a back up plan or structure in place. With Parr and McDermott now here, we are totally ready to fire AOB.
