Sam Tomkins: coming to an NRL club near you

I don't necessarily disagree, but when you consider he is allegedly getting paid only 50K less than Inglis per season, his performance leaves a lot to be desired.

Or more importantly wait until Moylan isn't still on his rookie contract if a comparison nobody really cares about needs to be made. Serious lack of common sense in that argument.

Every player who plays well in their first year or two us going to be better value for money. That's just logical.

You are right about Moylan, and most players. They perform, and then they get paid. Warriors supporters seem happy to make an exception for Tomkins.

Probably because he was a massive improvement on what they have. He's done okay, got 13 tries which is higher than Billy Slater, Brett Stewart, Matt Moylan, Ben Barba, Greg Inglis etc.

Can he be better? Yes. Let's see how he goes in the 2 years he's got left. I'd love to read your comments on Sam Burgess's first season in the NRL - probably called him a disappointing value for money too.

Sam Tomkins' performances are affected by an inconsistent Warriors forward pack, with only Lillyman and Friend being consistently good. Ryan Hoffman's arrival in 2015 should help rectify that problem -- especially since Hoffman has played for a year with Sam Tomkins when Sam was at the peak of his powers in Super League.

the warriors are either awesome or awful with no inbetween- being their full back must be one of the hardest jobs in rl some games- Tomkins should have gone to a top 6 club and made his way to their no6 in a lockyer style

#6 has been a problem until now. But now you have Tommy Leuluai, who is a mate of Sam Tomkins from Wigan. So no problems.

Next year when Ryan Hoffman adds to the punch of the back row, Sam Tomkins will be going gang busters.

Yeah, he's an attacking genius that Leuluai. He tore the Panthers appart with his last tackle options and fantastic kicking game on Sunday night.

Warriors need someone to give Johnson a bit of support and your mate Tommy isn't it. Another good bush footballer like Remi Castoff.

Its a strange one with Tomkin's.

At Wigan he was very successful with the only NRL style team in the league.
They are very Storm esq with set plays and Rugby by the numbers.

He however has joined the most super league esq team in the NRL in the warriors.
They play in a more as hoc kind of way.

Someone earlier said Tomkin's brought a level of control to the Warriors attack and I can see why he would.

Stick him in any other team and he would slotted in a lot easier.

But he may be more valuable going forward for the warriors as he adapts his game to them and they adapt their attacking patterns to get the best out of him.
If they can meet in the middle it could be rather special.

A big issue is the Warriors aren't terribly good - the one thing as Albert  noted, in the forwards only Lillyman, Friend and Mannering have been dependable, and in the backs Vautvei has been outstanding. McFadden stuffed up dropping Townsend for Leuluai, who at present isn't a first grade player to be honest. The team worked best with 1 Tomkins, 6 Townsend, 7 Johnson and 9 Friend, but there was some strange fetish with getting Leuluai in the starting lineup, which I really don't understand. Even then though, we're no threat to the top 5-6 or so teams

Tomkins has tried hard, and been ok - what has disturbed me is the basic errors which have been frequent - but for me, behind the 4 mentioned above he's been our next best player.

Yeah, you're right. I'm sure he would have come for a minimum contract just to test the waters and our ability to see the future should have determined he'd struggle to adapt behind a regularly beaten pack.

Tomkins is a pretty handy fullback. He isn't the reason the Warriors aren't playing on from here. He may be on a bit much coin, but there is plenty worse in the bang for buck department running around the NRL. I think next year the Warriors will be more settled & Sam will earn his keep.

On a side note all this Moylan talk is a worry. He will be a marked man next year. I hope he can back up what has been a great year for him.

It's ok Soc, I don't think the NRL players pays much attention to a small minority of needy fans who are desperate to have Moylan acknowledged. He'll be fine.

I'm sure the Panthers in general can expect a bit more scrutiny next year as a whole after the year they've had.

Second year syndrome is bullshit, good coaching can circumvent it and in Moylan's case he won't go walkabout in the head, he has that special hunger imo

And Tomkins is a victim rather than a contributor to the Warriors having an on/off switch?

Definitely a victim.

I was a huge critic of Tomkins early on, but there is no denying he takes his game seriously and never gives it short of 100% every game. He's not one of the great fullbacks but he gets better all the time.

When, exactly, were the Warrior awesome in 2014?

I agree with the NZ "Corrspondent" on NRL.com, Sam Tomkins showed enough to suggest he will be a quality "accusation" for the Warriors going forward.

Had some embarrassing errors in cleaning up bombs & kicks in goal throughout the year (not to mention falling over ALL THE TIME), but his general playmaking and passing to create breaks and tries were more than enough for me to get him a positive rating overall.

With stable coaching regime and now a full years experience of NRL style (across all aspects, from play structures, to opposition tactics & ref decisions/non-decisions) under his belt, I expect him to have a very impressive year in 2015.
