nospam49, how about we make an ACCURATE comparison between your crowds.
It would be fair to say, that at the start of last season, the Panthers were in a similar position to the Tigers this season. ie had a bad season the year before, hoping to improve for the new season.
The Tigers this year playing their first game at Leichardt for the season, got a crowd of 14658. Playing against an expectant wooden spoon contender.
Now THe Panthers in 2003, played their first home game against premiership heavy weights the Broncos. They got a crowd of 13499.
Now fair enough, the Broncos are from a long way away, but they are still competition heavyweights that should draw a crowd.
Maybe the supporters stayed at home cause they didn't want to see their team get beaten severely (which they didn't incidentally)
Ok, well, at the start of 2003 Canberra were in some good form, but we're still an unknown quantity, and the Panthers had a much higher chance of beating them, so surely you'd get a great crowd to that game!
attendance: 14472.
Maybe we should start playing park footy there. or demolish it.

You know what....Ive chnaged my mind.

I say the State Government should spend millions on a ground that at best will get used 6 times a year. That grand total of 14,000 (Below NRL average in 2004) deserves the money ahead of any hostipal I can think of.

Considering the tax dollars from the Balmain area props up the Penrith Welfare System. Are sure you are just a little bit worried about not getting enough food stamps????

Well this upgrade is dead in the water.

Of all the people on here that are involved in the push for an upgrade to the stadium only one had been a fair minded person on the matter.

The rest have quite frankly proven to be a pack of arse holes. If these are the type of people pushing the barrow....then Campbelltown Stadiumj can expect a hell of alot more games in the future.

Still it has been good for a laugh. Fancy Tigers fans pointing fingers at Penrith. Our League club could buy Leichhardt Oval, Buy Wests, Buy Balmain.....and still have change to buy this small minority of idiots looking to waste millions in my Tax dollars a fricken clue!

The only arsehole here is you.

You have probably never been to a game of football in your life.

See what I mean. Can you imagine these people having to try and explain why they should get a few million to upgrade a tired old stadium.

You're a pathetic. You baited the tigers supporters, and now you don't like the reaction. I strongly suggest you grow up.

By the way where is your response to what EdBurton said? He has facts and figures, and you've conveniantly ignored the post.

Have you ever been to leichardt oval? If not I rest my case.

Let's drop a bomb on Panfers - it'd probably cause a few $ million of improvement.

Cheers,

Where does the money come from for your club to buy anything? Pokies? Who puts the money in the pokies? Where does the money come from for the Penrith community to put into the pokies? Government handouts? Where does the government get their money? Tax Payers? Where do Tax Payers live? Balmain? And now, there are even more unemployed people in the Penrith area with Australia's Wonderland gone........

Last time i heard, your club had a very large debt from its buying of other clubs and upgrades to Panthers?

Stick your feral inbred club where the sun don't shine, it wont be long until you are back to the bottom where the chocolate soldiers belong.

PRESS RELEASE

Stop the rot!
SAVE LEICHHARDT OVAL!
23rd April 2004

Leichhardt Oval has been the Tigers home since 1934. There's no better place to watch footy. But Leichhardt Oval is in urgent need of repair.

We need the Government to lend a hand.

This Sunday (25th April 04) when the Eagles take on the Tigers at Leichhardt Oval we will be launching our campaign
to save Leichhardt Oval.

We'll be handing out petitions to pressure the state government to get behind us in our quest to secure Leichhardt Oval not only as a football ground but also as a community asset for many years to come.

In a game that is crying out for its traditions what better tradition is there than Sunday afternoon footy at Leichhardt oval. Please lend your support to our cause.

Please note that this is a supporters initiative and although both the Wests Tigers and Balmain Tigers football clubs are supporting us, the fans are driving this.

For more information email us at info@stoptherot.org and check out our website at www.stoptherot.org

You can also download a petition from the website and mail it to the Reply Paid PO Box so all you pay for is the envelope and the ink.

i'm afraid the grand plan under emporer carr and court jester egan is to sell off grounds such as leichhardt, redfern and even lidcombe oval to property developers. they have big plans for inner city villages.

I've followed the argument on this forum with interest. I love the sight of Leichardt full on a sunny afternoon (last Sunday for example) but the dilapidated state of it (I've never been there, I'm going on what I hear and read) and the changing demographics of the area leave me wondering what the best thing to do is.

History and Tradition are great but at what price?

LF, You wouldn't even know who the people pushing this barrow are. If you come here and try and stir up people, you should be smart enough to expect such a response.

Just like you pay your taxes, so does everybody else here. I can assure you, the support from 99% of people we have come across is in direct contrast to your opinion. These people pay taxes too.

I won't be addressing any more of your posts because you seem to have trouble completing one without being sarcastic or having a dig at the club.

If Penrith or any other club was in our situation, we would be backing them as well.

And if you think Panthers won't struggle when the poker machine tax comes in you should have a chat to your Leagues Club boss..

I think a lot of people are misrepresenting the amount of money/work that we really do want done.

Noone involved wants leichhardt turned into a super-stadium or anything of that sort - we all love leichhardt as it is or we wouldn't be fighting to ensure its continued use, the work that is being asked for is actually rather modest and mostly involves making sure the ground is safe.

Thats about the sum of it for me too

and maybe fix the security so we don't have to report crowds of 15k when the actual crowd is CLEARLY a couple of thousand higher (If that IS the actual reason for why they are reporting the crowds so low - and I'll have to take the clubs word on that for now)

Bob has nothing to do with it, it's crown (federal) land with a 100 year lease to council... A common mistake made is that folks think Callan park and L O are one in the same.. Not true..

Leichhardt is truly a great ground that oozes atmosphere, I look forward to going there with its gladiator atmosphere where the crowd are right in the players faces and not a million miles away like Aussie or Telstra. Each to their own if you prefer sterile concrete and steel then visit the other places a ground with a decent hill to sit on a sunny sunday what better atmosphere can you want.
