Scotty Dureau - Supersub or Supercoach?

with a full team available, that is all we need of him.

I agree.

We need him to play like Monday week in week out, because that's what halfbacks do.

Not one week up , one week down.

If we want inconsistency we already have that covered in one B. Rogers who has made a career out of being hot and cold.

He ticked another one of your boxes the other night Karma - playing well away from home :)

I don't think any of your 'standard NRL halves' outside of Thurston/Prince/Lockyer/Cronk/Barrett/Jones/Finch/Orford/Kimmorley etc could've produced better results than Scotty did on Monday without a dominant forward pack, the focus on he alone as the major playmaker/kicker/organiser and missing some of the team's best players during the game who would normally make your passes/kicks look that little bit better ;-)

Thurston (would never get)Prince(would never get)Lockyer(would never get)Cronk(would never get)Barrett(would run him out of town)Jones(to old)Finch(enough said)Orford(would you really pay that much money for him?) Kimmorley (will retire soon)

there you go karma who do you want. You say he may not deserve the massive raps he is getting right now thats fair enough. But he is sure as hell not as bad as you say he is. So if we did drop him what superstar are we signing?

The Knights should be trying to sign either Ben Hunt ( stuck behind Wallace in Brisbane ) or Keiren Foran ( stuck behind Orford at the Eagles ).

Both are standout junior rep players, and the potential superstars that need a crack at other teams to avoid an incumbent halfback at their current clubs.

There's our future if the Knights have the vision to be proactive and act on it.

I have no idea of their contract status, but its worth exploring.

Finch and Dureau are in the same mould IMO.

Neither are flashy, they do the little stuff. Their teams best games come when they organise and dont try to do too much.

Finch was 5th for try assists and 2nd for line-break assists in the whole comp last year. In a sh*t team as well.

He's a lot better than he's given credit for.

Thats pretty impressive JM...didn't know Finch had racked up stats like that in the rabble that the Eels were last year. All the same I probably wouldn't have him here mainly because he would cost significantly more than Dureau.

And add Wallace to that list of mine too (thanks for reminding me Karma)

I have not seen those 2 players. Alot of people on here have been watching Scotty for a number of years and love him so much because they relise potential. Monday night was the half of it and that seem to impress even you.

The bottom line is, Scotty is a winner.
He was in a title winning SG Ball side.
He was in a minor premiership winning Flegg side.
He was in a Premier League side that topped the table for much of the season.

In his 5 or 6 years at the club he probably has a 70% or so winning percentage - probably higher as starting halfback.

I don't care how he does it, i just care that he does it.

Well Smithy sure thinks like yourself in so far as he signs players with great potential rather than established superstars. He on occasions makes them superstars through his coaching. House and Sau are looking better already for it. You are correct though. We need a young half who can really make things happen. Rob Burrow would be the man I would want. He is brilliant that little fella and he has a ticker as big as i have ever seen in a footballer. Sadly he is far too expensive and leeds will never let him go. They would sell Maguire before him.

Scotty is coming second in the Dally Ms at the moment, with 5 points - Sam Thaiday leading on 6.

5 points from 2 games - one of which was a losing game. Could he be leading if he had played against GC?

seems Karma isn't the only guy who rates him.

Did I just step into some sort of parallel dimension?

If he (somehow) actually wins, or comes in the top 5, we'll have to change this thread name to "Scott Dureau - superstar!"

I missed the part yesterday where he apparently missed 2 crucial tackles..

But my only complaint from yesterday is that when he had that intercept he should have put in a grubber for MacDougall and not try out run Sandow.

But I can't blame him to much for that, if he just got tackled we would still have a full set and be on the attack... So yeh he went fairly good again yesterday, Rogers was no help to his half, once again.

Those 2 Dally M points yesterday were the biggest joke of the year. Once again I thought it was April Fools day this morning.

Check this " Luckless Dureau Drops Back To Earth With A Thud "

http://www.theherald.com.au/news/lo...-drops-back-to-earth-with-a-thud/1472552.aspx

" Knights coach Brian Smith promptly hauled him off for a short stint on the bench, perhaps in the hope he would regain his composure.

But soon after returning to the game, Dureau knocked on cold at first receiver. "

And then these beauties from the Supersub himself...

"I'm extremely disappointed in myself," Dureau said afterwards.

"I really wanted to back up this week and have a good game, but I was pretty bad today I think.

"I dropped ball there in the second half, and a couple of missed tackles that led to tries, really cost us."

"For me personally, it just wasn't there today," he said. "I was good last week and bad this week.

"Somehow I've just got to find a way to be good every week."

And he got 2 Dally M points?

What a crock of sh*t.

Karma. Ok. Seriously. You hate the bloke, there's no secret about that. However, at least he's admitting it wasn't one of his better games and  he actually does realise he's got to be more consistent.

I don't HATE him, I just don't RATE him. And consistency is something that is all I ever want from the bloke, but he somehow never seems to find it does he?

But the point of the post being, that he somehow was given 2 Dally M points for the crap he put forward yesterday...

What a farce.

Would there have ever been a time anywhere else in the NRL history that a player gets benched by their coach mid game for poor performance and yet still managed to poll Dally M points?
