Should the Panthers be relocated to Gosford?

With the imminent departure of Joel Clinton and Peter Wallace it is becoming increasingly obvious that Penrith are struggling to both retain and recruit quality players. Crowd numbers are down and sponsorship revenue is becoming harder for the club to secure on a long term basis.

It's no secret that Penrith is unattractive to young players. It's bitterly cold and miserable in winter and the closest beach is over 2 hours away. Unfortunately it's not the type of environment that will draw the likes of Inglis, Gasnier or Sonny Bill to the foot of the Blue Mountains. I have to say it's a sad indictment on a once proud club who in their heyday played entertaining football that brought the crowds rolling in on a weekly basis. These days the Panthers are resigned to paying "overs" to sign fringe first graders like Nathan Smith and have to rely on developing junior players to remain competetive.

In fact the only good thing going for them is an inspirational coach who keeps them in touch with the competition leaders by getting 110% out of his players each and every week.

Actually, I think I'll get Phil Gould onto the case and see if he can get the wheels in motion...

Stupid idea. Penrith has the most amount of registered junior rugby league players in the world, of course they need a first grade side. We won a comp in 03 and made it to a Prelim final in 04.

Due to a few dumb management decisions and the fact we had to pay for our success(upgrades to the likes of Rooney,Lewis, Waterhouse etc) we havent done that well in 05 and 06. Dont forget we won Harold Matthews, SG Ball and Jersey Flegg last year. So alot of talent is on the way. Two of those players Jennings and Grant have done well in first grade so far.

Talk about a total knee jerk over reaction.

First of all playing for penrith doesnt mean you have to live there. Its not like Canberra where you have to relocate hours away from any other place.

Second of all, Clinton and Wallace are just two players. I dont think the departure of two players means the end for a club.

Classic stuff from a Canberra fan.

Please note this isn't a dig at Canberra fans. This is a dig at Canberra fans who think cold, miserable weather, distance from the beach, attractiveness to players and difficulty finding sponsors are good reasons to relocate the Penrith Panthers.

I thought the same thing Cheesie.
Chachi, you pretty much just stole someone's reasons for Canberra to be relocated and substituted in details relating to Penrith didn't you? Very hypocritical. And if a gee-up, not very funny.

In fact the only good thing going for them is an inspirational coach who keeps them in touch with the competition leaders by getting 110% out of his players each and every week.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
Central Coast Raiders:D
Perth would be better for the Panthers, the Perth Panthers has a nice ring to it.

Haha good one Chachi. This is what we constantly hear about the Raiders but the exact same points can be placed somewhere else. Nice one. :thumb Just as ridiculous for the Panthers as it is for the Raiders.

This thread is about as ridiculous as the posts and threads suggesting Canberra should relocate to Gosford.....

FYI, if our crowd numbers are the reasoning behind the relocation talks, I think you'll find at least 3-4 clubs below us on season average crowds this year.

As for relocating penrith.....dumbest idea ive ever heard, one of if not the biggest junior catchment area around.

Apart from the fact they have one of the largest if not the largest junior rugby league areas in the NRL.
Apart from the fact that financially they are increadibly secure with the inclusion of the leagues club and the football club making an anual profit of around 4million.
Apart from the fact that they won Junior titles last year such as Flegg.

Yes they should be moved to gossy :sarcasm:

There is only one sydney based team that would be in the firing line for a move to the Central Coast ...

Central Coast Sharks ... no money, no worth while history, small junior nursery, annexxed between StGeorge and Illawarra ...

Central Coast would be able to supply the levels of underage drinkers to make the scummers feel right at home.
