Come again..

In many recent player negotiations we have had very few options. Player managers and players have had the strongest hand because they knew that we really needed them and there was no sense of urgency on their part. They could take their time and ultimately choose if our offer was the best fit for them.

There was no fear of missing out because nobody else was in the mix. Fear of loss is controlled by a primal part of the brain called the amygdala. It controls the fight or flight instincts that causes us to react quickly and is much stronger than the cerebral cortex which among other things analyses potential gains and came along much later in human evolution. In almost all cases you will fight harder to keep something that you thought you had than something that you may get.

By negotiating with several parties simultaneously, Dragons negotiators are telling respective player agents that if they don?t pull their finger out or at least negotiate in good faith, they may miss out.

fear of loss is used often in marketing and is sometimes even artificially introduced in order to strengthen a negotiation position.

The fact that it has been IMO, employed by the Dragons at a time when the teams seems more attractive due to the signings of Widdop and Thompson is either highly serendipitous or very shrewd negotiating.

Interesting...could also be a bit more subtle than Doust simply telling them to sign or they miss out. Eg. A whole lot of Carney/Williams rumours getting thrown around right before signing Widdop. Similarly, handful of Aubusson rumours before the signing of Thompson. Perhaps someone is 'leaking' these rumours to keep these players on alert that they aren't our only option, thus pushing them into the signing...

...or am I giving our board too much credit?!

I believe that all negotiation mentioned have some substance or they'd have been categorically denied but other parties
It naturally serves players and player managers well too when they are attempting garner favourable deals from their existing clubs

Judging by last week Saints won't sign Dugan as the speculation has been in the press to much. They probably will announce that they have signed Nathan Green from the Sharks or Lachlan Coote or someone else from left field as we never saw Widdop coming.

In the majority of instances, player managers have a big influence on a players decision. A club needs to first convince the player's manager and then serious negotiations most likely will occur.

Player managers are the people who mostly tip off the media. They do this to generate interest in their client and hopefully obtain a better deal for their client and of course for themselves.

I just hope for u guys that Doust has his Id, ego and superego in balance because the last thing u need is for the id to overrule the ego and superego with impulsive buys and overblowing the salary cap

We're playing a very smart game at the moment
The amygdala which controls our emotions regarding fear of loss is around six times more influential than the cerebral cortex' urge towards potential gain
Each prospective new signing is now aware that there is an alternative and that they may miss an opportunity to play in a prospectively gun side
Very smart indeed!

Understood every word you said except for the "very smart bit".....yeah right

As anyone heard anything about the clubs attempt to sign Dugan. It has been very quiet with no indication of what is happening?

I was just thinking that? It has been quiet since his last indiscretion when apparently Saints were a day or 2 from confirming him joining. He probably scared them off...
