As usual Game First you have come in here after a loss talking up the same negative stuff. It would have been nice for you to come here and show your elation during the last couple of weeks after we'd won. Then I'd see you as a supporter rather than a complainer.

why be elated after beating bottom of the table sides?? ... we are so behind the top 8 clubs it aint funny !
its depressing!!!!!

Look fellow fans i am by nature a patient man, but when a see a coach with no vision and class as well as no flexibilty that shows in our teams play- i dont accept losing at all- we are a winning club and 3 years of this is not only bad enough but our performances have been way under our potential and that is the coaches fault!

I love and always love our team but we deserve better now!

You have lost the plot. You have no vision and no class mate, Smith nearly one us a premiership, How can he just lose it you twit. Wait till next season, Injuries have been a key to where we have been finishing the season. Smithy has done an immaculate job in recruiting for next season along with finishing the season on a high. If you are just going to complain in every post you write about, Go support the Roosters. They complain non-stop. Not us!

ParraMatt, thank you for summing up what I felt in a polite way. My reply would have been like listening to Ray Hadley..........

So we're supposed to be upset after a win then? I'd like to think we'll be a top force next year but let's face it, at the moment we're not in that class. Be happy with a win at the moment, cause that's all you're gonna get at present. We're not gonna turn into a competition threat overnight you know.

I won't be as harsh as Misty on this one and I don't think I ever have been.
Great question though. :)

As explained to many people last night at and after the game.

Many people think of me as anti- Smith. I am not and never have been.
My knowlege of him from the media and as a coach leads me to believe that he is a very good coach and a sincere and honest family man. My one and only contact personally with him taught me that he is a humble person, with a moderate sense of his own significance. I admire that.
His deep thought of our game was evident during his time on the ABC several years ago. I learnt much from it.

But I have always been a firm believer that motivation is the major part of Rugby League at the elite level, as it is with any sport.

In my opinion, Brian has run out of ideas in this department, hence our wayward fall since 2001. Tactically, he has struggled as well which is another story.
There are a special few people who can acheive continual success in this field. Misty Bee has mentioned Wayne Bennant and Kevin Sheedy. I also see John Buchannan in the same League.

That is where I am coming from. Brian has run out of ideas that can be used for us. He could most certainly use them somewhere else and win a Premiership.
Somewhere fresh.

As for next year, Brian Smith will be here. So be it. I have hope that there are enough talented signings arriving who have had little experience with Smith that they will manage to be motivated by him. In turn, their passion will rub off onto the players who have played without passion this year, therefore lifting the team as a unit.

Smith will be here. Will I support him...............not personally no, but I will support the club. That is the stand I have taken. Mind you, it was only 6 months ago that I finally decided that.
If he wins us a Premiership, I'll be quite happy to say I was wrong, and shower him with praise. That would mean that me, along with many others, quite simply WERE WRONG. I' am more than happy to be proven that.
After all, isn't that what we ALL want?

Mits, the problem I have with your stance and that of the frock wearer, is that Parra can do no wrong.

That is simply not possible. If that is not what you believe......prove it. At least Strider comes out and says where we have made mistakes.

Wasn't it your favourite coach that made that decision?

That is where a lot of us are coming from at the moment.
What is the point of being happy with a win, when it will only propel us to 11th in the League, with only a John's less Newcastle, Manly Souths and the Warriors behind us.

Geez, some people are easily pleased. 11th ?????????

I would love for Brian Smith to prove me wrong and win a premiership and I woudl admit it. And I think he has finally bit the bullet and has released alot of 2nd rate palyers such as Hopkins and Stapleton and Peek. I would add Burt and Graham and Wagon to that list but thats my opinion.

Lets see what happens next year I am confident that with Juniors coming through and the players we have bought we are genuine top 4 material. Anything less will not be tolerated.

I will glaldly eat humble pie if Smith takes all the way, I'll even shout him a drink or two.

The people who are coming in bagging Smith are the same 'realists' who told us all last week we couldn't win anyway. They made mistakes, we made mistakes and they got there in the end. We had a chance, we missed it but as the 'anti-Smith' brigade told us our season was over long ago - so why bag him for losing a game that the team wasn't, according to them, supposed to win anyway.......

That's right I forgot........

Just because the team started to play better in the last few week doesn't mean Smith is off the hook. I want to know why such a sudden turn around in form occured and why this mob weren't playing like this for most of the year?

Why has Smithy only revved them up now when it was too late. I would of told them there jobs were on the line after the Bulldogs game.

Where did I say he was off the hook? I have the same questions myself.

The point I was making and that has been missed is - according to those bagging Smith now we weren't going to win the game so why bag him for losing a game we weren't going to win anyway?

Of course i'm not pleased with our overall season. Any Parramatta supporter would be dissapointed. However, I am pleased that we put in 2 solid wins over the last few weeks. Everyone else should equally be happy. We'll get back to a premiership threat soon enough, but till then we have to make the best of a bad situation.

You are a loser EELS DUDE if you think we have played good footy even considering our injuries.
And two solid wins v Warriors, Sharks, who have both lost any form for a while now!
Why cant we beat a decent, in form footy side who play well on the day under pressure like v Penrith.
We start well and crash in -like end of last year when we won a few and when we have to win, they lose it easily after big leads!
The team is losing as soon as a chance comes up to make the 8 under pressure-and you want to be happy with it.

i dont think smiths tactics were bad, their pack is one of the best in the L, makes sense to try and stop them from gaining momentum and getting on top.

u have to remember we were playing the reigning premiers, who would have solidified a top 3 spot ages ago if key players weren't injured. and we gave them a run - u can't say that game was a pushover for penrith.

the talent we had on the park was no match for penrith's talent, but im sure that'll change next year because we've signed some real quality players. it's easy to say things in retrospect, but i thought again that this year, we were victims of bad luck... we've got so many of our best players injured and one in particular, who ran away to england.

we would have made the top 8 for sure imo if cayless, cannings and vaeleki weren't injured... and if lyon hadn't run away. smith is a scape goat for some people, but i honestly believe our club would be in a worse position if he wasn't the coach.
