I wouldn't say happy, I would hope concerned, but confidant and willing to provide all the help for the coach that they can.

I don't think the club is either, but we can't tell that untill 2005 kicks off now.

And, as opposed as I have been to our performances of the past three years, I am prepared to give them that chance.

Roll on 2005.

Colonel, I think you are a GREAT mod - but you lost it in this post.

Secondly, you are right re maintaining Smith - I don't think you have moved off the fence, really. I assumed that the side you chose in this thread was very much against him being punted, and the vigour of your debate strengthened my views.

Personally, while I may have lost hope in Parra's fortunes for 2004, I never wrote them off, as the mathematical miracle still applied. Oddly, for 2 weeks other games fell our way. Every year there is the mathematical chance, and only once, in 1995 with the Dogs, has it materialised. And that was with a 10 team semi series. Once in the 30 years that I have been watching league - almost a third of it's existance. The only other example was in 1955 with Souths.

And, when we went up 12 zip after 5, I thought we were suddenly in with a fair chance. Trouble is, I wasn't going to leave a potentially great moment in the clubs history to race 100m to my office and log on to tell you right at that moment. When I DID log on, this post resulted. Hence my intense dissapointment, and utter dismay that others didn't seem so gutted as I was.

BTW, I joined here in August 2003 - I year ago. I changed from being a Smith supporter to a Smith's removal supporter after the early rounds of 2003, round 5 I think from memory, after we suffered our 4th loss in 5 games, and we should have been at least 3/5.

Go Parra - you dished out as much as you served up. I actually recall you starting most of it. I guess when the going gets tough...... Pity really. Some suggest you are a really keen Parra fan.

MITS Coaches just don't come forward out of the woodwork. Usually they are headhunted (that's how we got Smith, and Gibson). At the very least, board members put out the feelers, and responses gotten. I'm positive Ian Millward (current ESL champ), David Waite, Chris Anderson and possibly Brian Noble would have been VERY keen to take the job on. Then there's talented lower grade coaches such as Terry Matterson, Hoss Cartwright etc.

If this in fact happened, and no one bit, a HUGE question must be asked about the futrure of Denis Fitzgerald at the club. If Souths can get some big name interest, anyone can!

Secondly, if the Anderson/Shape combo is given the go (BTW, is this likely or just a scenario that may happen? has Anderson been signed or even linked?), then I'll accept it with relief, but not great excitement, because I think it's more the style of coaching being employed at Parra under Smith than any player/personality coinflict with him.

Finally, when I get long service leave, I'll reply to your encyclopaedia re Smith's years at Parra. That way, some of the stupid assumptions that have been made about my views might dissipate!!!!

But I will leave you with this thought. Currently, I am gutted, due to the happenings of last Saturday night. Totally gutted. I am baffled how some of you seem to be so calm and accepting about it all. Valium perhaps?????

Yeah well some of us might not take the loss as hard as you, I don't take that loss hard, because I think we played well and put up a fight and at this time of the year, with the run we have and the positions we are in, that is all I ask for.

I know that you are not one for that sort of mentality but that for you to figure out and not for me to suffer for on your behalf.

But then again I do have Gothic Tendencies, maybe I thrive on the pain and need to feel it again and again, oh such sweet ecstasy.

As for coaches coming forward, there seems to be a litany of coach movement happening south of the border, with coaches linked here there and everywhere, speculation and interviews taking place, yet we don't here a peep on league coaches here.

Yes we head hunted Smith, yes we head hunted Gibson, but maybe if someone came forward and put their hat in a yet to be formed ring they would be listened to.

Until that happens, change of coach is speculation.

As for Anderson, I have never had anything confirmed to me, but on some questions the silence spoke volumes.

As much as I have stayed away from personal abuse, I will not have you blacken my name with your inane ramblings.
I have stayed away from most Smith debates as of late as I didnt wish to cause anymore bad blood, but time after time you drag my name up and bait me (as the Colonel may well testify to when i sent him a private message)
As for me starting most of it, you really need to take a reality check, it was you with your feeble attempt at making me the butt or your so called jokes that irked me and got me to defend my position, perhaps i was wrong to fight fire with fire and should have stuck to facts rather than name calling back, but the amount of times you try and put yourself above all blame whilst dishing out crap on others is just plain ridiculous. It is you, not the Colonel who should be considering your position as moderator as in my opinion and plent of others you are a complete and utter joke and no, i'm not the first to say it here on the board.
You even managed to get Strider so worked up that he had what you like to taunt him with as a tantrum, now he is and was one of the most level headed posters to have graced this board and very rarely resorted to name calling.
Finally your comment "Some suggest you are a really keen Parra fan."
What a joke, a feeble and low attempt at an insult, I have supported the eels through thick and thin and for one hell of a lot longer than most on this board (probably including yourself and i know you go back to the 70's) and I WON'T have crap throwaway lines uttered about me like that without defending myself.
Get a life and grow up before you cause so much infighting that the board disintegrates.

Misty all you can ever do is question other people - their support for the club, their intelligence, their desire to sit here and argue against your constant insults....u constantly put yourself above everyone else....u r seriously lame mate.

You expect everyone on here to respect you cos of your long standing support for the Eels and the desire for it to get better....but the one thing you don't seem to realise is that no one will respect you until you give others a little respect.

I've got news for you mate - you don't have a mortgage on wanting the club to get better, on wanting to win a premiership......EVERYONE here wants the same thing....but for some reason you can't get that through your skull.....instead u want to keep baiting people who disagree with your brilliant insight on everything that happens with our club....we all seem to get sick of the endless bickering, but when we've had enough, even then you take your sly shots at people, questioning their support and willingness to keep the brawl going.

Frankly I think it is a disgrace that you are a moderator of this board with the way you treat people.

I would suggest that everybody calls a truce.

I think this has gone as far as it can possibly go.
The personal abuse has overtaken intelligent thought process.

We are all frustrated, tired and cranky with results on the field.

I read these posts and they are well thought out and intelligent...... and then there is the crap. My point being that we should be intelligent enough to put a stop to it.

I answered a post by Eelementary the other day in kind.

I hope others can do the same.

How about it everyone?

Suity,
With all due respect, I steered clear from all debate and was abused for not taking part or giving up my position on the matter, or in your own words "not hanging around to fight by my beliefs"
Well mate i'd like to say, that I am in a no win position, I have very similar views to both mits, strider and a few others and i maintained them for years as you well know on both the previous board and this one. My views along with a few others views caused great debates and eventually mud flinging etc and I copped a lot of abuse from a lot of people because of it, so i did the decent thing and ceased from arguing for the sake of the board.
Then I get flak from people, yourself included for not fighting for my beliefs, the same situation strider has found himself in lately.
Now as you say enough is enough, but im afraid there is only so much crap I will put up with in relation to baiting and goading and name calling which seems to be a specialty of our friend Misty who just can't leave it alone.
I even sent a special request to the Colonel to have a word to Misty to leave my name out of his posts and I would cause no arguments, but still he has to continue, and lastly, you know me well enough and long enough to know i'm a reasonable person and of my support of the Parramatta club as a whole is genuine, put the boot on the other foot and how would you respond to such comments against yourself and the continual baiting. There is only so much that i will sit back and let flow past, and when he starts to question my staus as a fan or supporter, then that is ENOUGH
Personally I have had enough from him and agree with Strider whole heartedly, his position as a moderator is a complete joke, i still recall when he lied about me last time this all blew up and when proven to be in the wrong, just deleted the whole thread to try and make out once again that he was Mr Perfection, How low was that and nothing has improved sinse !

I'm sorry but don't kid yourself that it will ever stop :?

Its starts as a difference of opinion over the usual subject (Brian Smith) and ends up with anyone who support Smith being told they "enjoy losing", "are happy with finishing 10th on the ladder", "don't want our team to win", "don't want to win a premiership", "are happy with mediocrity"....they are just a few of the usual tame ones....then it'll escalate into the usual crap about not being a true Parra supporter etc etc....its deadset lame.

Why shouldn't people take offence at having their support of Parra CONSTANTLY questioned?

AND might I add...why did it take till now to ask for a truce?....we've got 5 pages of a slanging match....when Misty is in full flight there's no asking for a truce - there's gotta be a string of replies first.....full marks for calling for a truce, but the timing is just rather interesting I think.

I'm really getting sick of this forum....I mean its fun to read funny light hearted posts from people like halfy....and its great to find out all about the player signings.....but to have your support for the team constantly questioned just cos you don't blame the coach for everything really gets to you eventually.....I admit that way back (like a year ago) I struggled to understand how ppl who r so down on players and our coach could be really supporting the team, but I have come to realise ppl can feel that way - we all have our own ways of showing support.....but I really take offence at being called names and degraded because of what I think....I have bitten back when I've had shit thrown at me, but I'm buggered if I'll be called the instigator of anything these days.

much more eloquently than i put it, and you are right 100% on the mark

In the end Smith is doing a better job, even this year, than anyone posting on this forum could. In addition, prominent players whose opinions matter more than those here (and are of course better informed), have been steadfast in their support of Smith.

Thus, the regurgitated, ill-informed, ignorant, self-centred, over-inflated, petulant little opinions posted here are infinately insignificant in any form of micro- or macro-context.

But please, don't let the truth stop you from tearing your loincloth and smearing ashes across your chest.

Funny thing is, what you said is just as valid for your opinions as it is for anyone else's. But you make it out to sound like you are right, and those who disagree with you are wrong.

Nope, includes me too. Point was the fruitlessness of the arguments when no one here really knows what they are talking about.

Mate, I believe in my post on page 3 I asked for everyone to calm down and respond to the issues, not the people.

However, achieving this is very difficult if people's interests lie not in attaining peace, but elsewhere.

I made a very simple plea - a plea which EVERY Parramatta fan should have taken into consideration. And most people responded well to it.

I don't think I'm high and mighty or that I am always correct. The only thing I know is that we ARE ALL TRUE BLUE PARRAMATTA EELS FANS.

How do I know that? Well, we constantly watch and discuss the games; we constantly discuss the issues surrounding our club; and we are always on this board.

I believe it's a shame that a difference of opinion means that Eels fans - members of the same 'family' - cannot get along.

But alas, there is nothing else to be done. I can't force people to live in peace.
