The point of an NRL team is to win the premiership.

You want to be entertained by other things, then watch other things.

He does, he patiently waits and watches for people to respond to his posts. He finds that entertaining.

Maybe the NRL think that in its current evolution its purpose and therefore the purpose of the licences they issue, is to entertain people. Therefore they (the NRL) choose to have multiple ways to entertain such as a weekend with a variant of their main product. This then also becomes the point of an NRL team.

Kerry Packer thought the same way 40 years ago and we now have One-Day Cricket. T20 is just another variant of the main game of multi-day cricket. Should the ACB not be offering these domestically and not participating in the international versions?

Nines is just another variant and we need to accept it is probably here to stay.

I don't mind the nines - it's a once a year, pre-season thing.

We had the sevens in years gone by, which were a bit of fun.

In decades gone by we also had the midweek knockout Amco/KB/etc Cup, which was also a good alternatve to the main focus on the premiership.

Injuries happen, and modern players (and their clubs) squeal too much about how many games they play etc, given the money they earn (compared to the player sof the early 1980s, with pre-season, mid-week, rep games and 8 week kangaroo tours all while trying to hold down real jobs!).

Please don't ruin this thread as well.

He can't help it mate. He has a problem, that is why everyone should never engage with him and he would eventually leave.

Do you not think that this is an issue worth debating?

All I see is Pou offering his opinion (that he likes the Nines and that injuries are just bad luck and can happen anytime). Hardly wrecking a thread.
Wasn't this forum made so that footy fans can debate issues?

The post that Jake responded to was where Pou started talking about the issue of club compo for injuries sustained in Round 1 of the competiton proper - nothing to do with the topic of this thread (the Nines squad)?

I'd imagine the (all too regular) off-topic tangent is what Jake and Avenger were highlighting. If Pou just stayed discussing injuries and the Nines instead of hijacking the thread (for another of his pointless debates), then I don't think anyone would have made an adverse comment either way?

Kind of true..... 3 games in nines equates to 54 mins of football.....
Not even a full game in the NRL. With a lot less intensity . We however where unlucky last year with the whole thing.
Did we get salary cap compensation for KE who would of been in our top 25?

There it is.
And even this is a valid question that is still on-topic (injuries during the Nines).

Exactly. The purpose of NRL teams is to compete in whichever competitions they're told to compete in. They have big squads to cover injuries and are ultimately paid by the fans. We're the useless merkins that want to watch them, and plenty of us want to watch them in the Nines.

I just sat here and watched that door open. All the while I was thinking "there must be something decent behind the door". Turns out there wasn't. Disappointing, if I am honest.

I thought it summed up Avenger's post well.
He said I was opening the gates - to what? Who the f**k knows! :?

You don't like clouds?
But they're fluffy and white and they come in cool shapes.

Everyone should like clouds.
