State of Origin is irrelevant

Still don't see how any of that makes SOO irrelevant. Year upon year SOO out draws just about every sporting event in the region, both on TV and crowds. You jealous sheep rooters just need to accept these facts and move on.

Get your arses to tests and sell them out. Then you can boast about where the relevance is

Origin is very not irrelevant. I was responding to posts saying test footy is irrelevant.

No but see they're confident they're going to retain the World Cup, and I love how they're pointing out how they don't get flogged like NSW, really ? What about tests?
Sitting there saying that its not important or the quality isn't as good like a bunch of wall flowers.
Highest ratings on television this year, sold out games, soz mate but its the most relevant thing in RL.

Nah it doesn't burn me J-Dub. I enjoy seeing large crowds for any game of Rugby League. Plus I know it's purely due to aussie media hype and the fact QLD have won 7 series in a row. If NSW had won 7 in a row it would be a different story. In the early 2000's Sydney didn't pull large crowds to Origin like they do now. It's not until the last 3 years where they've got 80k consistently.

What irks me is the attitude of some australian fans (and admin actally) to International RL. It's the way forward for our game. The only way Rugby League will ever grow as a sport is if International footy is given a fair chance. At the moment it's not. Yet the great nation of NZ still pull off multiple tournament victories against all odds. They make me proud to be a kiwi.

International footy is for all of us. We should all embrace it.

Hutty - What happened in 2010 then?

Shorty - I like how you put "retain" very good :D

I do. I've been to every single NRL game and test in my city in the last 15 years, been to tests in Sydney on several occasions, flown to Auckland for NRL games.

But I wouldn't cross the road to attend a SOO game now. I went to plenty of SOO games in the 80's including one night when there was only 24,000 at the SCG. Mind you it was pi$$ing down....remember Cleals dropout from under the posts that went about 2 metres?

Anyway, SOO has served its purpose. Like I said, make it one game a year. Don't wreck the NRL for nearly two months in the middle of the season. Make ANZAC Test a weekend of tests. That Samoa Tonga game this year was a beeeuudy.

Id take a win on the weekend for the Cowboys over an International test match win any day of the week, and Id take a QLD victory in 3 weeks time over the next 3 world cups.

International footy is nice to watch because its a rugby league game and its a little bit different from what we see week in week out, but it really means nothing to me to see Australia win again, or lose the odd game here or there. I know kiwis will never understand this, and maybe thats a good thing but SOO has the hatred and history behind it that internationals could only ever dream of.

SOO has served its purpose? Why do the ratings get higher every year then? Why do NSW fans pack out ANZ, despite losing seven series in a row? Seems to be well & truly alive & well to me..

The 200+K who will be attending the 3 games this year as well as the 4+M viewers who watch it world wide disagree with you.

But hey, keep telling us how you dont care

Because they've lost 7 in a row and feel desperate to win one finally. If they won 7 in a row the crowds would be considerably lower. They also probably feel entitled to win due to the fact they have a bigger pool of players to pick from.

I've also been to every test in my city since 1990 and most NRL games.

I'd take a win for the Jets than Australia

Another SOO ratings sensation. Game 3 will be epic. When is the world championship thing on again?

If NSW fans are so desperate - and we are - how come nobody is desperate to beat New Zealand in a test final?

Maybe in your little corner of the world, yeah. Meanwhile the NRL becomes more and more dependent on Kiwis, British players and Pacific Islanders. Maybe you could try roping some of them into playing Origin to keep it relevant, wouldn't be the first time. It's nice that you actually believe your little two-state dog & pony show is the pinnacle of the sport though. Just don't be too upset when Australia are the third ranked RL nation in a couple of years.

I couldn't care less if Australia never won a test ever again.

State of Origin and the NRL are where it's at in the most important part of the rugby league landscape. Just accept it and you'll feel better.

No, that's just your geniused opinion, actually. And no-one could care less about the number of tests you've seen your terrible national team lose
