Sydney relocations

Picking up On the discussion in the tele poll thread on relocation due to financial strife, teams in financial trouble:

St's - not known how cash strapped though had difficulty paying stadium rent and have had to get an advance from NRL to deal with cash flow issues
http://www.news.com.au/national/st-...revenue-dries-up/story-e6frfkp9-1226727261659

Tigers - balmain leagues skint and not able to pay their contribution. Doubtful wests can, or willing to, cover the $2mill shortfall annually. Money loaned from NRL to cover losses

Sharks - $3.5mill debt, operating on lowest income in NRL, struggling to fill sponsorship portfolio but light at end of tunnel with development helping cover losses.

Titans - income poor and carrying debt. Not able to operate to full salary cap. Saving grace for them is NRL will bail them out as battleground area with afl expansion.

At this time none of them are in such financial states that relocation is necessary. NRL, in public at least, is committed to sustaining existing clubs though tigers do seem at most risk and some balmain people, ?elias, think a move to Perth is on the cards after NRL put in a rumoured $8mill to keep them viable.

Should Balmain not be able to raise its $4 million within the two-year time frame, their delegates will be removed from the board and the 108-year foundation club will no longer have a stake.

That would leave Wests Ashfield with a decision over whether to accept the entire financial risk, a burden their board and members might not be prepared to accept. If that were the case the club would fall into the hands of the NRL, making it ripe for relocation. Some Balmain figures are already convinced a move to Perth is on the drawing board, because of the ‘Wests’ moniker.

“It makes complete sense — the Wests Tigers could work in Perth just as it does in Sydney,” said one Balmain figure. “And everyone knows the NRL needs to get rid of some Sydney clubs.”

Not as funny as the sharks thinking they will have 50,000 members in a couple of years, now that is fricking hilarious!

They die . All all would be good because PR would be the Sharks biggest fan boy.

After all the important thing is having a team in the NRL in Perth. No matter who

what about Perth pirates. and Adelaide tigers,or bulldogs, sharks or a 2nd Melbourne team ?

AFL had a few relocation's. south Melbourne bloods swans to Sydney swans. Fitzroy lions to Brisbane bears- lions

relocate a Sydney team to Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth , those teams would boom with new fans, sponsors, corporate money

I'm convinced there will come a time when the small suburb clubs like sharks, sea eagles, panthers will have to co-locate and develop a second city fanbase Ito keep pace with the big city one team clubs. The only thing keeping them in it at the moment is an artificial salary cap keeping wages to the lowest common denominator.

Provided the suburban clubs are financially strong ,maintain a strong junior league which both the Sharks and Penrith have ,and the Sharks will be a very strong financial club soon, there will be no need for relocations. The Shark had record sponsorship this year even without a full year major sponsor.
The only reason Swans and Fitzroy relocated was they were financially stuffed, with a diminishing support base, which is not the case with the clubs you mentioned.
The Lions are losing money in Brisbane hand over foot.

Smith has repeatedly stated and you continually ignore , that his stated aim was to ensure all Sydney clubs were financially strong.
The way you keep banging on ,perhaps a new Perth team should be called the Vultures.

Lol re sharks of course they did!

If the NRL keeps the salary cap low they will be competitive if never dominant.

storm are losing money hand over foot in melbourne, it's called investing for the future of the code.

OK Einstein show me your source where the Sharks have not had record sponsorship this year.
Yeah funny that new developments going on in the Shire .One just completed 200 plus homes,One on its way 80 plus lots both at Greenhills.
Developers wanting to build a housing development on the Kurnell peninsula 2,000 homes.
600 plus units next door to the club est 1,200 plus. occupants .
Huge unit development on brick pit site at Kirrawee.
High density housing springing up everywhere in the shire.

Indigenous group own land near Menai wanting to develop thousands of homes.
Yeah no room for growth. One of your best.
Artificial salary cap!!!.All clubs gert the same plus a development grant.
Oh and more junior regos than the whole of WA.:D

Wow you've got more jnr regos than an afl city? I'm impressed lol

Good on you for believing in your club, let's face it things can only get better at this point in time for the sharks.

And they will. I went there earlier this year and it was great fun. That place has so much potential and the NRL would be mad to let the sharks go.

Disagree...

The thing keeping the outer suburb teams in a competitive state is the poor performance of the inner city teams. Now that teams like Souths, Bulldogs, Eels, etc. have actually become ambitious off-field, we will begin to see a bigger gap forming.

There will be a machanism introduced to keep the smaller teams competitive, but thatll be focused more towards Canberra/NQLD/Newcastle than outer-suburb Sydney teams...

Sounds great but why does that make sense other then that you said it?

There already is a mechanism, it's called the salary cap. It is there to keep clubs on $15million remain competitive with clubs earning $20million plus.

And?

You would prefer open slather on player salaries?

Not even the AFL does that....
