Interesting... he seems to have few fans here, but the bonus with him is you know exactly what you'll get - a consistent performance week in, week out - big workrate etc... Good move, clearly TL's body cannot be relied on atm

Interesting, I wouldn't have picked it, but from what seems a relatively comprehensive and robust metric Johnson ranks #2 amongst NRL halfbacks...

Great signs
Very interesting. Johnson is in career best form in terms of consistency. He turns to Tomkins for advice during pauses in play.

Every penalty Johnson's looking around for Tomkins for a quick powwow , it slows our penalty restarts but it gives those two planning time about the next set.

That clique forming has been about the biggest change in Johnson's year I would hazard a guess. Johnson looks settled , focused etc.

This is the first year Johnsons rated in the top halfbacks, surprised he is ahead of DCE , it's a fairly close table for all of them.

Johnsons defence would have ranked his game higher overnight , he's becoming one of the better defensive halves around , Cronk would have him for Kicking meters.

It's all pointing towards us winning more games than we lose.

Fully on board with Friend having another year, hopefully grandfathering in Havili.

Not sure what that means for TL though, either continuing to fight Townsend for the 6 spot or playing the bench utility role which would then push Havili out which doesn't sound ideal.

Still, good when the problem is lots of options rather than too few.

Good to see Friend signed on, but it does pose questions around Leulaui and Havili

When everyones fully fit

6 Leuluai
7 Johnson
9 Friend/Havili

17 Friend/Havili

So Chad, but you need to up your game from here on in. Not doing alot wrong, but not really doing anything (it could just be that he is being overshadowed by Johnson and Tomkins)

hmmm, tbh I like the team better with Townsend at 6... TL on the bench imo fwiw

But , that list makes me wonder whether 7 is as key as everyone thinks... Melbourne and the Warriors have hardly been stellar...

In terms of Thomas' body, he played every game last year. And I think he was fairly consistent in number of appearances for Wigan too.

You're right, you know what you're going to get with Friendy. Perhaps the acid should have been on the blokes around him to create the impact around the ruck and Friendy copped it because those blokes weren't doing their job. Since Cappy has come in and the forwards have undoubtedly been tougher, it appears Friendy is back being the beloved little garden gnome he is. I'd be completely cool with him if he cut out the odd forward pass from dummy half. Its a bit odd, because he is usually so crisp out of there. The other thing is his pass back for a field goal these days is a bit slow and labourious.

As far as toughness and character goes though, you need blokes like Friendy around the joint. Much the same as I think Ryan Hoffman will do a good job for us and be a big influence on the kids around him.

SJ has been doing the basic 1%ers right this year IMO. His kicking has been a mile better and I would rank him in the top echelon of defenders for halfbacks. He was usually just a "hell, let me grab a jersey and hope someone else gets this bloke" type defender, but he's coming up with speed in the line and stopping blokes dead in their tracks.

What I liked against Melbourne and the Raiders was his running came alive again. Thats always been his best asset, and IMO, he is without a shadow of a doubt the best running half in the game. Hopefully he now has a solid foundation with the skills above, and it will allow him to break out into the superstar I think he can be.

I believe the Chad has started at five eighth in all our wins... that said, poor old Tommy has started I think only 2 games this year so nothing can be drawn on that.

The Chad is somewhat near solid, but he doesn't have much of a running game and there are times he puts kicks in that should get the DJ at the ground putting on "Things that make you hmmmm". I'd rate Leuluai as being a much superior fit TBH.

Yeah, as you say the issue is TL hasn't played much for some time...

At the end of the day, signs are good at the moment all round, but I've been watching since DB Bitter, Dean Bell, Dennis Betts, Andy Platt et al... so heard the positive spin before... was disappointed with Elliott being named, in the context of searching the globe that was a joke, as tbh is McFadden, nonetheless I am happy with committing to him but they should have waited, and the most disappointing thing was someone suggesting he was a future supercoach...

TL's kicking game is a liability under the new rules , he's certainly from the generation of Warriors spine player that thrashes the ball and goes a mile past the dead ball line.

Our service is way better when TL's playing , passing is a lot sharper than Chads.

Chad has a useful weighting of his in goal kicks and a cross field kick that we haven't seen much of yet.

It seems like TL going to Hooker while Havili is lined up to replace Friend next year is a realistic solution.

4 PM on Channel Nine (delayed - NSW), our first prime spot for the season. Hope we put on a good show for all those viewers who wouldn't usually see the Warriors play (or even much rugby league at all for that matter).

No spoilers in post headers please!

I believe the game is well and truly over before Nine's coverage starts.

Yep, game will be over before it starts on tele here. Just going to put my computer away, turn my phone off, and put up with the delayed telecast this week. Hate watching these, they always pack them full of commercials...grumble. Hope we play well for the free to air audience though.
