June 14, 2007 Australia was both Ashes & world champion. You can stretch it out to the exact minute both series & tournament finished all you like to try and save face but both happened in the last 5 years as per your requirements. As usual you don't know too much about a lot.

Series end: 5 Jan 2007, not in the last 5 years.

Cup end: 28 April 2007, not in the last 5 years.

So you cannot count to 5 either. Guess school was tough for you.

Try again.

Hmm you still seem bitter. Determined to prove us wrong aren't you.

How'd you enjoy the game last night?

No dumbie, they didn't. The urn and the cup were won on the field. Not off the field after the conclusion of play months later in June.

My questions were:

"Did Aus lose your last test match to NZ? Yes.

Have Aus made a semi final of a cricket world cup in the last 5 years? No.

Has New Zealand? Yes.

Have Aus won an Ashes in the last 5 years? No."

Not whether they were reigning champs or holders in that time.

You can try saving face that you can count to five, but that just means you admit you cannot read and comprehend.

So either: you fail at Math, or you fail at English.

You choose. I suspect you fail at both. :D

Tamou's comments yesterday saying how playing a test was a "bonus" typifies what most players are thinking. Origin is what brings out the passion in most of these players.

As much as i'd like to see international rugby league expand beyond it's current potential, Origin is still the biggest game in rugby league. The massive tv ratings reinforce that. The pay-packet accentuates that; and each and every single game is a contest. It's a shame that international RL isn't bigger than SoO, which is the way it's supposed to be. But as of now and until the foreseeable future, SoO is the pinnacle of Rugby League and is what brings out most the passion from the fans

You must not understand what pinnacle means. For New Zealanders and Englishmen and players from all other countries tests are the highest level, same for Australians. Test matches are the highest level. The quality of the game does not make it a pinnacle, nor does the level of prestige or accomplishment. Most players would say a premiership is the best honour they have walked away from the game with, does not make it the pinnacle.

Origin cannot be the pinnacle when it is only available to players from one country. Several Englishmen and New Zealanders would walk into either side.

They still don't even come close.
And it wasn't one game, game 2 last year and game 3 last year were also extremely good.

Yes they do. The Tri Nations final of 06 was easily the best game of that year, and I would say the 08 WC final was the best game of that year as well.

Game 3 last year was very one sided. Games one and two were great.

From 2008-10 there were perhaps 3 good games, all of them game 3.

There are several club games that were better as well. Roosters-Tigers final in 2010 was one of the best I've seen. Bulldogs-Eels final in 09 would come close to being my favourite game of all time.

The issue for me Doc is 'Tamou' like incidents which are in effect a cannibilisation of the strength of the international game to service the over riding strength of SOO. Is this just one of a string of isolated incidents, or the start of a real problem?

If I had my way Tamou been selected for Origin wouldn't rule him out of New Zealand contention.

But then people start going on about how it should be about 'birth' only, ignoring the fact that kids have no choice over where their parents move to...

If people want to debate the size of Origin just look at the numbers.

This year will pull about 12 million viewers, will generate about $125-150 million of the NRL's broadcast deal and creates lots more in other sponsorships and gate takings.

For year in year out value, State of Origin is the biggest sporting event in Australia.

However - the ARLC should be looking at both lifting club and international football even higher.

3 international series. NSW have not won an origin series in that time. You better be a Qld supporter to say that is "rare".

No sir, tis you who looks foolish. You claimed it is rare NZ win, So I pointed out that they won the international series of 05, 08, and 10. That is 3 series wins in under 7 years. In that time period, since NZ won the tri nations in '05 - NSW has not won an origin series.

Try again.

Well teen suicide has been on the rise so I can't promise the numbers you're used to.
There's a silver lining to the long white cloud after all.

You do realise Australia has more than

Australia GDP (PPP) 2011 estimate
- Total $914.482 billion[7] (18th)
- Per capita $40,234[7] (12th)
GDP (nominal) 2011 estimate
- Total $1.488 trillion[7] (13th)
- Per capita $65,477[7] (5th)

New Zealand

GDP (PPP) 2011 estimate
- Total $122.193 billion[8]
- Per capita $27,668[8]
GDP (nominal) 2011 estimate
- Total $161.851 billion[8]
- Per capita $36,648[8]
Yeah but we are supporting three quarters of the Kiwi population via Centrelink.

Now there's a contest the Kiwi's could own.

Exactly right. Origin may even be the best, toughest, most passionate game of rugby league there is, but it is not the pinnacle of the entire sport of rugby league. People need to wake up and realise that rugby league is played and supported elsewhere by hundreds of thousands or possibly millions of people. Origin is awesome, but only the ignorant would believe it is the pinnacle of all of rugby league.
