My daughters best friend lost her Godmother - the barrister. 2 kids.

Tragic.

At home today with the office off limits. Clients are understanding but pissed all the same.

Good to hear MJC, you can't help think what a hero the 34 year old man was who tried to wrestle the gun off him.

Cops let me go under police tape after I showed them my business card.

Mixed feelings around here. Shock and sadness of course, yet a distinct feeling that merkins won't allow them to change the way we live.

The Deceased Barrister's kids also went to my daughters school (primary).

Shocking. The school has had a rough year with the death of one of their Nuns on MH17.

Dear Member of the School Community,

It is with immense sadness that we inform you of the passing of one of our much loved parents, Ms Katrina Dawson, during the siege in Martin Place last evening.

Katrina was the mother of Oliver who has just completed Kindergarten, Sasha, who attended St Michael’s Pre-school and Chloe, a student at Ascham, and the wife of Paul Smith. Katrina was the much loved daughter of Sandy and Jane Dawson and sister of Angus and Sandy Dawson, all families who are highly respected members of our School community.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family at this extremely difficult and very sad time.

We understand that this news will be highly distressing for many of our families and staff. Support is available for anyone who wishes it through our School Chaplain, Rev Craig Tubman, Rev Michael Jensen (Rector of St Mark’s) and Head of Counselling, Ms Juliet Reiner, via the Junior School office. St Mark’s Anglican Church will be open for private prayer from 2pm this afternoon, for anyone who so desires.

We thank everyone for their kind offers of support. We will inform you accordingly once the family’s wishes are known. Out of respect for the family, the School will be making no further comment at this time.

Maybe they should make a gas that puts you too sleep. You install it in a building and if there is an attack you press the button-Could be done remotely. And it knocks everyone out for an hour? An invisible gas id suggest.

One that's odourless, perhaps?

Amazing how this lunatic wasn't deported after his letter writing, he gets political asylum and spends the next 13 years being a menace. How many more off these lunatics have been let in and are roaming the streets????

Hopefully (probably?) not too many.

I'm really glad that, terrorist attack or not, the outcome was probably the exact opposite of what this f**kwit wanted. An outpouring of emotions that seems to have brought Muslims and non-Muslims closer together. It's a shame it was under these circumstances, but excellent that it is happening. For once, I can say I am proud to be an Australian.

Yes, good on you, lingard.

I'm watching this from afar (Switzerland) and it's a bit sobering, but hopefully the sane, decent people will prevail.

Baz, there has been a fair bit of condemnation from the Muslim community regarding this attack.
There has also been an enormous amount of sympathy from the same community for the victims.
Lingard is right. I feel as though the more intelligent majority of the Australian community will use this as a positive and strengthen their determination to fight against this hatred of western society by the extremists.
Of course, there will be the usual racist/bogan component that will want all Muslim's deported and blame them ALL for the Lindt Café. These people just need to be ignored.

So did anyone see any merkin ride with another merkin? Or do people just like to post things on Twitter to make it look like they are doing something?

Who knows mate? But the thought was positive. That's not a bad thing.
Just like the flowers being placed in Martin Place. One person did it. Then thousands have done it. Is it really that bad?

Sadly Sydney has changed forever, we must be vigilant but we shall not live in fear.

Agreed Gents.

I did. Three separate people.

Mind you - there was not even a hint of violence in the air towards our Muslim friends on these occasions, but it was still good to see people rallying together.

I know a lot of Muslim people, and they are good people. It's such a shame that a combination of ignorance, fear due to the aforementioned ignorance, and a small minority of f**k-ups can create this atmosphere of hatred and viciousness in some aspects of the community.

The Taliban murdered 130 kids in a Pakistan school yesterday.

Imagine their pain.
