Since other candidates for the next Immortal have had their coaching efforts discussed, I put this forward as a serious question: Should we not consider the great coaches of the game for Immortal status?

In my opinion, Jack Gibson should be considered as an Immortal for his influence on the development of the game in Australia through his innovation of coaching methods and training.

Should be Provan in next.......

I think Joey should be one, but not this year. In saying that, 8 in total is such a low number for a game that has been running for so long and a couple more need to be added. I don't think it should be a set number or every set period one is announced just as necessary and right now 2 or 3 more should be added.

If it cant be Johns.

Then its Coote, Proven and Meninga.

Coote is on par with any second rower to ever play the game.

Couldn't care less to be honest.

The immortals is basically a list of the editors favourite players from when they were kids, in no way resembling a list of the greatest players to ever play the game.

The NRL seriously needs to stop promoting this ridiculous list and start promoting its own Hall of Fame

This 1000x

I voted for Freddy. But I honestly couldn't give a f**k. Dud list by a dud magazine.

How it came to have this much reverence I don't understand.

After that magazine came out, Daley captained 3 straight Origin victories in a row for NSW. Won a 3rd premiership, and won numerous awards.

There's been a few players on par with Daley since he retired but not many. I'd place Laurie Daley in the top 5 players of the last 25 years.

He's definitely better than Darren Lockyer!!!

Lockyer captained club, state and country to victory in 2006 (4th premiership), if not for a knee reco he would've captained 6 straight origin series.

Since you've been roundly ignored jaynie ........I'll answer

no, no we shouldn't

In my opinion, Jack Gibson should be considered as an Immortal for his influence on the development of the game in Australia through his innovation of coaching methods and training.

If we were considering them (which as stated earlier....we're not) I think Jack Gibson would be a fine choice, although Wayne Bennett, Ken Kearney or even Henry Holloway would have to be in amongst the running as coaches who have left an indomitable mark on the game

Meninga:-

Only player to twice captain a Kangaroo Tour (1990 and 1994).

Most points scored in Test matches for Australia (272 – 21 tries, 96 goals)

Most goals kicked in Test matches for Australia (96)

2nd in most appearances made for Australia

5th in most tries scored for Australia

Most points scored in Origin

Most goals kicked in a State of Origin match for Queensland (7 in Game 1 1980)

2 time BRL premiership winner (Souths)

3 time NSWRL premiership winner (Canberra)

a Member of the Order of Australia "for service to rugby league football"

Most State of Origins won as coach in a row. 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 (6)

That last one is going to make you tear up misty but.....well, it's in the record books mate.

Meninga >>>>>>>>>>> Cronin

Now.......what's this about his mate, Sludge.
Cronins 4 fair dinkum premierships beat Meningas 3 cheated ones. And if you count BRL comps I'll count his 2 for the Gerringong Lions.

Cronin has not only a grandstand, but an entire GROUND named after him. He has TWO medals named after him. Cronin was also scored the only points in a winning GF. Meninga bludged off the work of others.

As for his disgraceful series of sooks, he should be ineligible!

Ok, I'll just take two names out of that list I provided.

Argue that Lockyer was better than Glen Lazarus or Brad Clyde. Since watching in the mid 80s, I consider them the two best forwards I have seen. Why shouldn't modern forwards be considered in this list.

There is a clear bias towards halves. We seem to be discussing Sterling, Johns, Fittler, Langer, Stuart. I personally found Lazarus, Clyde and Webke to be in their class, just in a different position.

Also I don't think johns should be eligible he finished playing in 2007 even though he retired half way through the season it should be counted as a full year and hence it isn't 5 years until next year - however ignoring that only 3 real options at this stage -meninga , coote and provan With meninga the winner

Guys like Dave Brown,Dally Messenger,Duncan Thompson and Frank Burge should be inducted, i think it is ridiculous that it is only post world war II.

Whilst you want it to be an exclusive club it doesn't mean there shouldn't be quite a few added. Johns,Lockyer,Proven,Meninga and Coote should also be inducted in my opinion.

Others i can't say if they are absolutely elite, Sterling maybe, Cronin maybe,Irvine is a good shout, Langer and Stuart were at the same level arguably. I think maybe Slater or Smith or Gallen could be soon a guy who won't be mentioned but i honestly think he is up there is Lazarus and also Petero Civoniceva he will never become an immortal but he has had an unbelievable career in all forms of the game and is still going strong.
