not like i can really talk about it cause i dont have the money to do so..

but i'd say you should buy a young winger with say atleast magnificent winger skill, then with some handy playmaking and passing, he'd train at 50% and would grow in tsi and experience. that would, i'm sure boost your attack alot. on one side anyway. but you could alternate sides, lt the opposition try predict you..

but yeah, i'd love to do that if i had big dollars. only have $1.8, and i need to be better all over the park really. but i'm hanging in the top 4 of my div v. so its not all bad.

im really unsure what im going to train this season, i been training defending but i am thinking about a change to playmaking..... im a big fan of 4-4-2 formation though and train 8 defenders a week... I really need to buy 2 awesome inner mids but i only have about $3 - 4 million

I've been using 5-3-2 for ages while training defending and I'm actually thinking about working a 4-4-2 format for a while while still training... might give me a boost of the midfield which I need to compete against a midfield side!

I believe age is getting updated as we speak

How'd we go with our Oceania Cup draws? I got a bot

yeah i'm pretty sure i got a bot aswell.

hey it'd be cool to keep an eye out for everyone's team and where they are playing. i know it has been done before, but atleast 50 pages back!

my team is:
Madtown Vikings (V.11)

it'd be cool if others could add their teams so we (i) can check out and follow their progress.

good luck with the new season everyone!

Congrats on the promotion to Div IV nibbs. I think Poida definitely had the right idea for what to spend your money on - a fairly young winger with at least brilliant (preferably magnificent, world class or supernatural) winger and a bit of playmaking. Having at least one good wing attack is a big plus and makes you much harder to defend against. Give him a few seasons of 50% PM training (maybe even 100% by playing him in the centre of midfield in your friendlies - although this effectively loses you the 50% spot in the league game) and then you can sell him for a nice profit.

With defence trainers, from a purely financial point of view it's probably better to play with five defenders at the back unless 4-4-2 is the difference between being a top of the table Div IV team and fighting relegation back to Div V. However, obviously winning games is fun no matter what the division, and I know I played 4-4-2 at times when I was in Div V. Basically, the rule I use is that if I should win the match regardless then I will play with five defenders. If I would probably lose the match no matter what I do then I will play five at the back. If winning the match won't actually make much difference to where I finish, then I will play with five defenders. And always play five defenders in friendlies. The only time I play 4-4-2 is in a match where it should prove the difference, and a win will have a significant impact on my season. That's the beauty of the fact that you always have excellent experience at 4-4-2, you can pull it out with no warning and catch your opponents off guard.

Of course, my offensive CD's give me a lot of lee-way that most defender trainers don't. My 5-3-2 with two offensive CD's gives basically the same result as a normal 4-4-2 with three inner mids.

As for my Rockhampton Wolves, we won IV.4 for the second season in a row, and this time I'm promoting up to III.16. I'm really excited about this season, obviously partly because of the new test of Div III, but also because one of the other teams that promoted to it is actually the team that first gave me the idea of training multi-skilled defenders. Without him (or to be more exact it was his offensive wingback's inclusion in the Oceanian U20 team) I would have swapped training to playmaking about six seasons ago, and I would never have had my U20 players and soon-to-be full national player. Along with Elkabong who has sadly quit the game, Infinious is the player I owe the most to in terms of my own team development. I'm really looking forward to coming up against him.

Also have good news with my national players (as I mentioned above). Joseph Finau is now in the U20 side, and the national manager has told me that Pedro should make the full national team next season after we get knocked out of the WC qualifiers, and is actually a chance of coming in earlier to play in the WC if we need him.

I think that my club may be facing a tough season ahead on several levels. If my midfield isn't in top form, we'll probably lose most of our matches. We're just not at the same level as the other teams. In my time in hattrick, my side has only lost 5 times at home in the league over the course of 39 matches. In fact we haven't lost at home for 19 matches. Its a record I want to maintain, but it will be broken, probably blown to pieces :(

I was just trying to work out what kind of wages we'll be paying, and it looks like I'll have to fork out $227,000 each week. I'll be expecting sponsorship of around $220,000 a week to cover that. In the unlikely event of selling out my stadium each week, I'll make $600,000 from tat fortnightly, but probably less. So, I'm expecting to have expenses of $400,000 a week, which means I'll need my stadium at least half fill for all my home games if I'm to breakeven. ffs

Just out of interest, Madd Dogg, How does your side cope on a financial level?

i got smoked in my first match 5-1, i've pretty much f**ked up my top 2 chances by trainin those 2 weeks stamina for the younger guys in my squad. and missing that 3 weeks of playmaking training at the end of last season didnt help either. oh well i'll still finish in the top 4 at least.

Looking at my fixture list and with a goal of trying to finish 4th or 5th in my first season in Div III, I felt I needed to win two of my first three games. Thankfully I've slightly bettered that, with a current total of 7 points putting me in second place. However it won't last, with two games coming up where I'm basically going to accept the loss and PIC, Press and Pray both to set me up to try to get as many points in the next four as I can.

With great difficulty at the moment. Two seasons ago I was paying about $350k a week in wages, and then a touch over $400k last season. Because I was quite successful on the pitch and had fairly good cup runs I had no problems handling that and making a little profit.

But now I'm forking out over $725k a week, and about $400k a week of that is on two players (the mythical middie and magical defender are on about $200k each). And I am most certainly struggling and running at an actual loss for the first time in my Hattrick career. I'm currently selling one of my trainees a season before I planned to just to get myself back in the black. And next season it'll probably be up around $900k. I figure that selling one (maybe two) trainees a season will let me break even.

lol, thanks Poida. I was going to run for the U20 position two seasons ago, but unfortunately (or furtunately depending on your viewpoint) it was just about then that my work commitments really picked up, so I just don't have time for the national gig anymore. Especially as Thursday and Friday are my big days and I barely get a chance to get on the computer at all, and it's Friday night that the games are played.

hey guys, just thought i'd get this topic back to the front of the soccer forum!!

my vikings are now 3-2, sitting in 4th position. my form is really coming good, but i really need to buy some good defenders and attackers. i've made a couple of sh*t house decisions the past couple seasons in terms of spending too much money on players. but i really need some top quality players now. i can just sit in 3rd-6th position in my div for ages. but i think i'll try and save up, hope for some luck in the YP's and then make some quality purchases. give me 2 seasons.

In my last post I said I was going to accept losses in my next two games. Well, somehow I pulled out draws in both and I'm still sitting in 2nd as I'm undefeated (2 wins and 3 draws) in my first season in Div III. The league is incredibly close though, so I could still easily drop right down into the automatic relegation zone.

In the 6th round of the cup I play a team who is not only in nibbs league, but who played him on Sunday (and beat him 5-0). I'll try to get some retribution for you mate, but it's going to be very tough at his home ground. If I was at home or we were at a neutral venue I'd definitely be favourite, but at his home he will probably win midfield. Hopefully the match engine isn't in a 'midfield is everything' mood for our match.

Okay, I've just been hammered 9-1. Not good. But I have a young side and am in the process of training them in playmaking which I'm going to continue with for some time, because midfield is obviously all important.

I also bought a playmaker a few weeks back who is at least making some sort of difference.

Question though, I really only have three players of any quality and lack strikers. I know it pays to build over time but should I invest in one quality striker to sit alongside one of my younger, sh*tter strikers? I'm having all sorts of trouble scoring goals whereas I've only started leakin goals since I began using my best central defender in a more attacking role.

How bad are your current strikers? One way to improve your non-training positions is to get older, more experienced players. Even if their skills are the same, the extra experience will see them play a little better.

my league is proved just as tough as I thought it would be. I'm bottom with 1 win from 6 games. i'm PICing a fair bit to try and get my team spirit up. i've decided to target a couple of games and see what happens. i've got no doubts we've got 2-3 wins in us for the second half of the season, and that might be, but probably won't be enough to save us from the chop and automatic relegation :( . had we promoted at the end of this season i think that my sid e probably would have been ready to go up.

One of my strikers has potential, the other I'm not sure about. I had a third but he was complete crap and I wanted to free up some wages to buy someone a bit better up front. At present most of my goals are coming from midfield.

i won my league game on the weekend so i'm sitting comfortably in 4th spot. still my midfield is my only decent area and i played against a team on the weekend with formidable defences against my weak or inadequate. his mid was wretched and mine was inad. back at his stadium this weekend and i honestly i wouldnt be surprised if i lost. despite my midfield.
