Time for Moylan to 5/8

I know DWZ hasn't been shining on the wing but I'd give him first shot at fullback.

Bring Edwards in on the wing and move him to FB if DWZ can't find form.

(Hardaker would have to re-sign for me to consider him at FB)

I've been on the DWZ for fullback bandwagon for years but watching him not even attempting a tackle on Barba the other day makes me think we'll be creating a bigger liability than we are fixing. Between him and Hardaker that try should have been stopped, but it wasn't. He is very lazy in defence. Something isn't right with him just at present.

Perhaps it's still a hangover from his collapsed lung? That's pretty serious stuff.

Jennings isn't exactly tiny. He is 5'10" and a brick shithouse. He would run over a lot of nrl forwards. I wish we still had him.
Yeah, I stood next to him at the airport and he is really thickset and stocky when you see him in the flesh. That said , I have met Cooper and he is a big unit and neither JT or Cronk would have stopped that try. I thought it was pretty poor that nobody arrived to help him. Jennings beat two Queenslanders. That's the difference between the two sides. QLD are always there to help each other. Moylan is built like a Lockyer and is never going to win any powerlifting trophies.

Just on Cooper's try, unlike the pathetic commentators (Gus and Joey) who think it is ok for Cooper to throw the ball at a defenceless Moylan, I thought it was great that Fifita run in and made sure they knew not to mess with the Blues. If they hadn't sent Cronk off in the first half, he would not have been sin binned. They need more of that and less of Farah ruining plays with his terrible running and passing from dummy half. Somebody give him a number 7 shirt and be done with it. He is clearly a frustrated halfback.

Player ratings in Syd morning herald most rediculous ive ever seen - couldnt have been watching same game as the rest of us - hate to say it but telecrap are more a better reflection
How could he rate Moylan as one of the worst players same score as Bird and Tedesco light yrs above everyone else
i know Tedesco is a good player but geez the media love affair is way way over the top he played good but Geez nothing superhuman that i saw .
The author of the ratings for the herald must have one orange and black eye and a pic of moylan and mansour on his dartboard.
I think Moylan actually played quite good

I think Matt was quite outstanding. Mansour had an unhappy night though.

I guess they look at 260 odd metres and dozens of runs and deduce that Tedesco had a blinder. The truth is he stifled NSW in the first half much the same as Gallen often does. He'd have Ferguson unmarked outside him and wouldn't pass the ball. A metre hog. He was very well contained by Queensland all night.

His defence has not been great. His attack doesn't look as smooth as when he injects from fullback. But doesn't really matter as Hook doesn't rate him as a 5/8th anyway.

Moylan finished with 19 tackles and missed just one.

Had Teddy given up that pass to Moylan,he would have been screaming in the clear with hardly no player in front of him.

The Qld team were aware how dangerous Moylan was going to be.They had Maguire and Thaiday targeting him in defense.

For Teddy they just looked at his 220m and other stats which don't show the tries or chances he bombed. Also it doesn't take into account 100 of those metres he got supporting players who had already made breaks.

The DT ranked him above Maloney which is ludicrous. He did nothing of note last night besides bomb a certain try and get run down by Cronk. He will get better obviously and looked solid defensively and taking kick returns but there are stories going around about the 'arrival' of james Tedesco and how last night proves how special he is lol come off it.

Wonder where Teddy goes when Hayne makes his comeback? Put Hayne on the wing or centre?

If Griffin doesn't make it a priority to move Moylan to the halves, he is a worse coach than I thought in the first place - The kid was great last night and didn't look out of place at all - I can see Griffin getting all stubborn about it though, he seems to be the kind of guy that hates being wrong and won't admit when he is.

Whether or not you think Moylan has what it takes to be a topline 6, the fact of the matter is that what he showed last night in one game far outweighs what Cartwright has offered there, and to keep on playing Cartwright there is just stupidity.

I guess Thurston and Cronk should be moved from the halves... they missed Jennings 2 on 1 at the end.

Moylan did well defensively. Yes he was beaten in a tackle... but he was one on one by a much bigger guy and he was just out muscled. Jennings beat two halves that were similar sized to him in a 2 on 1 against him situation. Those 2 halves are regarded as the best halves in the game. They couldnt tackle a tiny centre.

He receives a pass at the highest level pretty much. He would only get better with experience in that position. No way you can use this game to rule him.out of playi g in the halves. If so games 1 and 2 would rule him out of fullback and hes not playing whatsoever for us. This was arguably his best Origin game.

The difference being Jennings had wound up was running at a staggered line and was really moving when both Cronk and Thurston were back peddling/covering. Moylan couldn't handle Cooper 1 on 1 on the goal line in a situation where he was in two minds whether to slide or not when he shouldn't have been sliding at all. Nevermind the fact that a backrower should have been there to help him make that tackle. They were two vastly different situations.

Anyway, apart from that I thought Moylan had an average game - not bad, not good. Just meh.. Did some things right. Didn't seem to organise the team that well - Maloney did most of that. He hasn't proven he has a kicking game. Did he kick the ball at all last night? He did far too much standing and passing. A lot of what he did was telegraphed. Took the wrong pass option a number of times. Look at it through rose tinted glasses all you like but I thought he was quite easily the 4th best half on the paddock.

Yeah Moylan had his flaws but at the end of the day he was everumybit as good as his opposite 6. Better in some areas, lesser in others. But one has played 36 Origin games and is a Queensland great who will be an immortal. The other played his first ever senior game in the halves and was targeted all night.

Moylan passed at the highest level he has played in his debut game. He will only get better if he plays there at club level and is allowed time to get comfortable in the only position he can continue to be a rep player.

Christ Pearce never looked better then that in his native position and an infinite amount of chances.

jennings had people slowing him down and had both Queensland halves there to stop him. BOTH failed. Jennings wasn't wound up. He had to cut back in and dodge players to run straight between both halves.

Moylan was the only player to get a hand on Cooper and was outmuscled by a much larger guy.

To excuse the misses on a centre as lesser than one on a second rower is ridiculous. Moylan was also the bloke who put Ferguson through for the linebreak that led to Jennings scoring that try. Moylan was the bloke who created the opportunity that put us in position to win.

In his first senior game in the position. Cronk and Thurston were no better then him. They just get a pass everytime they f**k up bevause they're Cronk and Thurston.

Moylan was average to poor in the first half but IMO was terrific in the second half. Actually ran the ball to the line, and even took a tackle once. He's got plenty of upside in that position, although I don't know if pushing him straight into 5/8th is the answer.

In defence, he was a hell of a lot better than I thought he would be. Cooper would of scored 8/10 times in that position against any half in the comp. Bird rushing up gave Cooper a hell of a lot of space.

As important as the position of fullback has become it's still not as important as your halves , fact is we have serious problems converting possession into points. Moylan will help there but it also means we can avoid a year of rookie players in the halves next year.

Bring TMM in from the bench and if he develops into a better option than Moylan then that's awesome , sucks for Matt Moylan but the team will be better off.

In the meantime a Cleary/Moylan combo looks nice.

Put "Us" in a position to win? That's the funny thing about assumptions. There is only an "us" when players run out in Panthers colours champ.

Yep, 2 on 1 they probably should make that tackle but we've all seen Jennings run over bigger men. And surely Jennings is close to if not over 100kgs? He is a solid bloke.

I thought it was a poor miss that led to Ferguson's break not necessarily the final ball that put him away. I'm probably wrong on that. In my opinion he proved he has potential in the position but overall had an average game. I think both Maloney and Graham played better halves games than Moylan and one of them is not a half. Anyway, I stand by what I said.
